Why, of course. If something is mind altering, pleasurable in the short run, and addictive, it is standard operating procedure for the pushers to declare it good for you health. If the profits are large enough, you can hire ersatz researchers and doctors to lend an aura of authority to the claims. The users eat it up.

In the early 1900's, cocaine, heroin and speed were all wonderful tonics for health. Cigarettes were good for your health through the 1950's. Alcohol is still good for your health, and marijuana is next for promotion to high health status.

I wonder if Marijuana will 20 years from now will have a repeat of the Tobacco Settlement. That is, all the major producers being sued and fined for putting out a product they "knew" was harmful.
