If you haven't gone back to animism and a fur jockstrap, you're ahead in the game of life. Maybe some gratitude, you dumpster crawling freaks.

The FREE! market is perfect.

4000 a month for a parking spot is cheap.

Anyone who can afford to live inside is way ahead of most people who've ever been alive on earth.

There's nothing free about the SF housing market. Asinine zonimg laws only there to prevent 2 story building ready to be used in courts by assholes who go around bragging about how much their house is worth while they throw eggs at Google buses. Subsidized Section 8 housing and BLMR unit scams that PREVENT the free market from working correctly by artificially restricting units open to everybody.

I love that San Fran map where they show the 4 story building limits, basically the entire city by land area.

Thiel 2024, The Slayer of Gawker, those nasty little bully-gossips. And a truth telling prick. Such a refreshing change from swarmy manipulative Trudeau-Obama types.

Thiel is absolutely correct. In 2008-2012 when demand was back to "normal" they kept crying for QE and muh bailouts! Because a vacancy in the double digits is not acceptable! Neither is a crapshack for under $500K. So they distorted the market with massive govt forces while keeping the zoning laws strict and imported another bubble => the slumlords are happy again. Ironically it was the best time to live in SF during and a few years after the crisis. Unclogged streets, parks, no lines in coffee shops, just the right amount of population. Loved it while it lasted.

Even the stinking burners and hipsters had left, it was like a city for you know - normal - people again. Beauty is simple.

If someone is willing to pay $4000 for a parking spot and someone is willing to provide a parking spot for $4,000, let them. Nothing wrong with that, who cares?
The problem emerges when free markets are restricted by excessive zoning, rules, laws, and NIMBY activism. If free markets were allowed, there is no way the BA would be so outrageously priced.
Suppose they made a law that states rents can never be more than $1,000? No landlord would bother to rent out their property. Where would renters live then?
