His service got him provisional right to stay. His crime got that right withdrawn and his ass deported. Or do you think we need MOAR DRUG DEALERS in America?
Seems to me if you fight for this country you should have full citizenship. Did he just not apply for it once he came back? Or, is "service" always just a provisional citizenship? I couldn't tell from looking at other articles online....
Service in the military doesn’t award US citizens a pass to commit felonies, so why should it grant immunity to immigrants? The fact is that if you are an immigrant applying to become a citizen, you can’t have committed any felonies in the USA. I don’t feel like some time spent eating MREs should grant an exception to that rule.
"5 facts about that "deported Army vet" to set the record straight"
1. He was not given an honorable discharge. 2. He claims to have served two tours in Afghanistan, but the dates of his deployment do not bear that claim out. 3. His conviction was a plea deal, he initially faced much more serious charges. 4. Perez Jr. was eligible to apply for citizenship long before he joined the Army. 5. Senator Tammy Duckworth, an Army veteran herself, has spoken out on Perez's behalf.
