Makes sense for a number of reasons. Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post and is no friend of Trump. Also plays well with the vast numbers of small retailers that have been killed by Amazon on Main Streets across the country.

Trump is absolutely right. About time. Same for NFLX using "net neutrality" as an excuse to make boatloads of cash by clogging the backbones at others expenses.

Why do they pay little to no taxes? And how are the exploiting the postal system?

They don't collect sales tax in many states where they don't have a physical location, so no sales tax revenue gets passed to that state for their sales.

They have a cut rate shipping cost, someone in the government gave them a big discount (government giving away money that doesn't belong to them, surprised?), thinking it would help the postal service. The postal service is losing money delivering their packages, while the taxpayers get to bail out the postal service.

Isn't it grand.

@errc I agree with you. I don't see why religious institutions should be exempt from paying taxes.

My own dad got in trouble with our parish priest when I was growing up for referring to the Catholic Church as "a business".

Speaking of Fake organizations that should register as the political institutions that they are, why am i still being forced to subsidize The Church?

I guess the Constitution doesn’t matter to those people

Not really they are just tax exempt like other non profits. Of course you can advocate for getting rid of non profits in general. Other thsn that you pay nothing unlike in many European countries where you pay taxes for the church unless you specifically declare to leave it which has other ramifications. So could be worse.

Like it but the post office should just increase rates as they see fit either for all or just businesses. I find their rates more than competitive already. Their flat rate shipping is unbelievably cheap.

What the fuck do you mean i pay nothing?

Who pays for the infrastructure that allows the Church to exist?

You dont pay any taxes to the church it exists via member donations. The only tax advantage is the non profit status which many other companies enjoy. If you want to get rid of all non profits then fine.

Exemptions from property taxes represent an even larger benefit to churches — the total value of all property owned by all religious groups in the United States easily runs into the tens of billions of dollars. This creates a problem, according to some, because the tax exemptions amount to a substantial gift of money to churches at the expense of taxpayers. For every dollar which the government cannot collect on church property, it must make up for by collecting it from citizens; as a consequence, all citizens are forced to indirectly support churches, even those they do not belong to and may even oppose.

Unfortunately, this indirect violation of the separation of church and state may be necessary in order to avoid a very direct violation of the free exercise of religion. The taxation of church property would put churches more directly at the mercy of the government because the power to tax is, in the long run, the power to control or even destroy.

Lol, "tens of billions". More like hundreds of billions.

But still, it's a tricky issue. I was under the impression that churches are even more exempt from taxes than most non-profits, but maybe I'm wrong about that.

Right. It's either abolish all non profits or none. No need to single out churches.
