Various government workers told Politico that the stress of working for President Donald Trump’s administration has ruined their dating lives and often caused them to turn to liquor for comfort. Dozens of these employees reported to Politico that the advent of Trump had forever changed their lives.

“My own personal coping mechanism is a lot of denial,” said one Energy Department employee. “That has caused marital stress, since [my spouse] does not appreciate or respect my state of denial. That has caused an issue, although we would not be the only couple in the United States that has struggled with the Trump effect. I’m the frog in the pot that’s boiling along.”

A State Department official also said he was concerned about how the administration was affecting him and whether he would be forever associated with the “worst” of the administration.

“There are days I want to leave and work for someone who respects me and appreciates my skills and expertise. I’m worried people years from now will somehow associate me with the very worst of this administration” one State Department official told Politico.

Not all government officials felt the same anxiety as their colleagues, as some Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents expressed that they felt supported for the first time in a while.

Liberals are not logical. They are literally blaming Trump for their own marital issues.

Government employees have always drank like fish. They should be grateful to Trump for giving them a vestige of shallow pretense and self pity over it. They just have to be weeping drunks instead of happy drunks for a while.

You could never make the argument that alcohol is universally or invariably harmful, but you could make a convincing argument that it is mostly harmful and that whatever 'benefit' it has, it is only to a segment of the population while condemning a significant minority to various forms of disability, morbidity and death.

When I took chemistry, the discussion of all alcohols were that they were all generalized, water soluble metabolic poisons. Only one, ethyl alcohol, had enzyme pathways to break it down and enter it into the citric acid cycle. This had the effect in some ways of making the body mistake the poison for nutrition of a kind.

Alcohol is also a serious inflammatory agent and the temporary aldehydes circulated when it is broken down are even worse. I always laugh when I hear the kale righteous diet superstitious talk about how certain foods cause inflammation, while quaffing wine, which is the most inflammatory thing they can put in their bodies.

However, as with all intoxicating and mood altering substances, you will never control people's use of alcohol through punitive measures, so the only real discussion is how to clean up the mess after the self inflicted do their thing around it.

Addictions continue to be the perfect virus in society. People embrace and celebrate them, buffered with denial, when the substances make them feel good for a while, puzzle over them when they start to realize they are compromised but can't stop, and then enter the last phase of holy victimhood where none of it was their fault, nobody warned them, and now it is society's obligation to patch them up and bail them out.

Actually, moderate drinking has consistently been shown to lead to longer healthier lives, in studies from many places and at many times. And wine in particular is clearly more beneficial than beer:

But of course heavy drinking has a large negative impact on longevity. It really is about the dose and not alcohol in itself.
