Let's cut the crap about the opiod thing eh?

Trump doesn't give a ** about people dying from opiod overdoses. Nor does Sessions, or any member of Congress.

Exactly zero cops care as well -- unless one of their family members gets addicted, then suddenly they care.

Why do I say this?

Because the solutions aren't all that complicated, in the main, to this problem.

First, we keep hearing of seizures of synthetics (like fentanyl) measured in pounds, kilograms and even larger units. This is enough drug to kill tens, hundreds of thousands or even millions of people. Yes, enough in one place to kill everyone in a decent-sized city. These synthetics are extraordinarily cheap to manufacture compared against actually growing and processing poppies, especially if you could care less about the possibility of contaminants in the product.

Yet we not only fail to stop it we fail to do anything to the nation where nearly all of this crap originates: China.

We consider them "most-favored nation" trading partners. We let them hold Treasuries and collect the interest. In short, we consider them a friend even though they repeatedly initiate a process by which millions of Americans could be murdered at once and by which many die over time.

As just one example you can read here. Or, if you prefer, here! The latter was 33 pounds of that crap, enough to kill 7 million people "as seized."

Oh, and from China the crap goes into Mexico, and then over our border. Yes, that Mexico. You know, the other "free trade" partner that has siphoned off all our manufacturing jobs and then sells narcotics into the hands of people who are depressed because their job got shipped into Mexico?

These are our friends?

C'mon folks. If anyone gave a crap about this for real we'd not only build a wall on the Mexican border we'd stick .50 cals on it manned 24x7 with orders to kill anyone that gets within a half-mile, and we'd cut off China entirely and hold a T-Bill bonfire in their honor on the South Lawn of the White House.

So cut the crap Trump, along with Congress.

But then there's Colorado, you know, where weed is legal....

A trial launched by the Colorado Hospital Association, or CHA, had the goal of reducing opioid prescriptions in emergency rooms by 15 percent. Instead, opioid prescriptions were cut by 36 percent.

Ten hospitals across the state participated in the groundbreaking pilot program. The medical providers said they succeeded by writing fewer opioid scripts and treating pain without narcotics.

Doctors, instead, turned to using ALTO's (alternative to opiates) whenever possible. Examples include treating pain at the source and targeting its specific cause. This could mean starting with non-opiate medications, trigger point injections and Lidocaine patches placed right on the area of pain, or IV drips with Lidocaine.

There's no explicit word whether weed is part of that, but I bet it is.

But, you see, our government continues to insist that there is "no valid medical use" for marijuana at all, despite knowing this is a lie. That's why it remains Schedule I and why, even if used medically, it's illegal to buy or own a gun if you use it.

And don't think the authorities won't correlate that -- they have already done so, including in Hawaii.

Hawaiians can use medical marijuana, but that's known to the state because they must register. Hawaii also forces registration of all firearms much like Illinois does with people and their FOID cards. This trivially allows them to correlate the two, and they have.

Note that under the law if you use a drug "off-label" (that is, you are prescribed a pain killer for a root canal, you do not use it as you don't need it, and then take it for a backache) you are breaking the law if you own a gun or ammunition. This is nearly impossible to police but it's still illegal.

The real screw job with that particular game in Hawaii, and I assume elsewhere, is that those using marijuana for medical purposes typically buy it with a LOT of CBD and little (potentially almost unmeasurable) amounts of THC. The problem is that any cannabinoid is illegal from a federal perspective and it is virtually impossible to avoid trace amounts of THC and other cannabinoid compounds when CBD is extracted.

You cannot get high on these products (CBD will not get you stoned irrespective of the amount consumed) but they are effective in many migrane suffers, as an anti-inflammatory and especially in those with seizure disorders (most-particularly in children who are often unable to either tolerate or do not respond to other anti-seizure medications) yet our pig-headed government refuses to leave people alone who are simply trying to relieve symptoms!

Never mind alcohol, which gets a million people blasted every single night and day and has zero medical justification for its use. In fact right now, just a few miles from me, there are a metric **-ton of Spring Breakers down here playing on the beach with the explicit intent and public display of getting utterly wasted.

None of them lose their gun rights despite using a rather-addictive substance in an abusive manner.

But more to the point is that not one individual, especially the President, gives a damn about all the opiod deaths. If he did, or if Jeff Sessions did, they'd be looking at what Colorado is doing and opening up whatever paths are available to people in pain, irrespective of the relief mechanism as long as it does not involve opiods.

They'd also slam the door on nations that manufacture and transport this crap into the United States. Rather than playing cop and trying to jail or even execute people once the drugs are here they'd stop making excuses for nations that steal our citizen's jobs, create mass depression among formerly-employed blue-collar workers and then export highly-addictive and deadly drugs into the United States for them to consume!

I remind you that the British people did this same ** to China in the mid 19th century; the source of the poppies originally was India. And by the way the outcome of those conflicts, which involved actual shooting, was the legalization of opium trade into China by the British, who then (obviously) turned a metric **-ton of Chinese into addicts.

How soon we forget, but rather than remove marijuana from Scheduling entirely, growing and processing it domestically while rendering it approximately identical to alcohol on a regulatory basis and remanding the products of same under state control, while at the same time slamming the door on both Mexico and China we instead invite synthetic opiods that are hundreds of times stronger in from the very people victimized by the British and through the nation that has robbed us not only of jobs but has sent across the border into the US millions of illegal invaders who we coddle and allow to displace American workers thereby creating more depressed people susceptible to these highly-addictive and deadly drugs.
