Larry Kudlow made a great case today for the President's China policy, recognizing that the long term goal is to get China to buy more shit and raise the overall level of trade by hundreds of billions of dollars. Also, to start paying for using IP, which is another few hundred billion in frankly, stolen assets.

And what does that equal? Mo money, mo money, mo money. But you have to be tough, the friendly occasional requests to lower barriers didn't work, so it's time to use punitive incentives. As was said earlier, with half a trillion dollar trade deficit, it's China, not US, who stands to lose big league.

The President's dual tactic of praise for their business skills while tightening the screws serves as a mechanism for the Chinese Government to keep face while eventually making concessions. "Well, populace, we really got the Americans, but they finally got smart. We really did well there, so we can be magnanimous. But look how many decades we got away with getting one over, guess the party has to end at some point."

I think Trump or not, a confrontation with China was inevitable because their roadmap "Made in China 2025" means making China into a superpower competing with the US for high value added gear. They are no longer seen as cheap manufacturing and provider of cheap crap.

These are just the opening shots.

I expect Europe and the WTO to become involved.

Of course the establishment of people bent on making money short-term doesn't really understand the point.

I read a good book years ago about how China invited US manufacturing in primarily to steal US manufacturing intellectual property. Now it's a done deed.

He also made the case that this wasn't the US versus China, but a situation of the world versus China, as many other countries were getting screwed by the games China plays.

That's why the stock market made its 700 point turn around today.

I'm pretty sure you're the only one on patrick.net is surprised that you're saying something else complementary about Trump.
