Major tech companies like Facebook are entering the space.

Just because you create some shopping tokens (libra) doesn't make it blockchain.

Onvacation,
I def. like that you are trying to learn more about the space and I encourage your curiosity. If I could give some small advice. Maybe try to research some basics.

From the Libra website:
“It is built on a secure, scalable, and reliable blockchain;
It is backed by a reserve of assets designed to give it intrinsic value;
It is governed by the independent Libra Association tasked with evolving the ecosystem.”

https://libra.org/en-US/white-paper/#introducing-libra

That doesn’t make it a decentralized cryptocurrency like Bitcoin, but it is built on a blockchain.
BTW, We have already seen what the advantages are of having a decentralized crypto like bitcoin. You can’t send a letter, there is nobody who answers the phone, nobody to sue, no CEO, not even an address.
283   WookieMan   ignore (3)   2019 Jul 14, 8:51pm   ↑ like (0)   ↓ dislike (0)   quote   flag

No CEO? No address? Wtf does that matter? The US gov could spend a couple billion on mining and destroy bitcoin in 30 days. You understand that, right? They can make it illegal to have it. (I know, I know, don’t use exchanges even though you do) Our government has made plants illegal. They can call your numbers illegal tomorrow and the fiat $ value would plummet.
284   Newbie123   ignore (0)   2019 Jul 14, 10:11pm   ↑ like (0)   ↓ dislike (0)   quote   flag

You would need to research your statements. They are all incorrect. You cannot stop/destroy a truly decentralized cryptocurrency like bitcoin. The only way to stop the mining and trading would be if there is no more internet which won’t happen unless there is an end of the world scenario.
On the other hand, you can def “attack” a centralized currency like Libra. All you need to do is send them a letter, invite them to a hearing etc.
you can’t do that with bitcoin. Again, no centralized place/address/entity is running it. That’s the whole idea behind it. It’s why it has been around for ten years and why the network was never down. It’s fascinating. Something like bitcoin has never existed before. It’s the first of its kind and it’s here to stay. And even ten years after its creation some people still have no idea what it is and think the government can shut it down. :)

Some see it as an investment, some see it as digital gold, some think it’s gambling, some think it’s snake oil, some think it’s just 0’s and 1’s, some even think a government can shut it down. But it really doesn’t matter what one thinks. Bitcoin is here to stay and likely to continue it’s path to increase in price and adoption.

You might want to get a balanced view on things you really don’t understand. It’s not all pumping.

https://learncryptography.com/cryptocurrency/51-attack

And no one ever said destroy. It exists. Hard to destroy things that already exist. Just like you can still find beanie babies. Even if it’s $100 (lol, dollars) a coin it still would have wiped out most people holding. So yes, pretty much worthless.

And as long as US law enforcement has warrants to search your home and computer, they can do whatever they want. They make it illegal to have crypto, your “currency” plummets to what is mathematically nothing compared to current values even if they only search 100 known bitcoin holders. No business would accept bitcoin also smashing the value. No public exchanges.

You’re naive to think a larger government can’t influence or destroy the “price” of bitcoin.

I don’t like to do this as it’s about a user but I think it’s important for anyone watching this or the other crypto thread, whether regular users or lurkers. I think the behavior and his comments are dangerous. Mods can erase it but I’m only referencing what this person has made public themselves.

Newbie made an AWFUL call back in Dec 2017 during the run up and then disappeared for almost two years. Now comes back pumping BTC again. Do NOT listen or take any of his advice. You WILL lose money. He most certainly lost a shitload if his past comments are to be taken truthfully. Don’t know his motive for posting here but it’s pure pumping/pushing garbage. Read through the history yourself before he deletes it (got screenshots though, so this could get funny).

Obviously never listen to anyone on an Internet forum, but there have been good calls made by some intelligent people here (on other threads). Just avoid this one.

Going to try to avoid these threads myself so they’re not pushed to the top, but will still call out bs when I see it. Anyone that admits living in an in-laws stating they make 6 figures is, well, I guess I don’t need to say anything else.

Apparently Peter Schiff is having a live bitcoin debate today at 9PM EDT. Might be interesting but I am more interesting to watch the debate on CNBC With Anthony Pompliano (Bitcoin and Gold on CNBC’s Crypto Trader).

https://www.currencies.ru/after-receiving-bitcoin-gifts-peter-schiff-could-turn-19071201193744.htm

“I will be hosting the 1st ever Peter Schiff Bitcoin challenge live on my Youtube channel on Monday, July 15th at 9 PM EDT. If you think you can change my mind on Bitcoin, here’s your chance. Bring your best argument and be prepared to defend it.”

Pomp, who wants credit for being the one who will change Peter Schiff’s mind, asks for 15 mins live stream before everyone else takes their shot.

“Want to do the live stream together and I can spend 15 minutes trying to give you a difference of opinion before everyone else sends in thoughts?” Anthony Pompliano asks.

Pomp Gets His Shot, But Even Better
Anthony Pompliano will be getting more than just 15 minutes of a live stream on YouTube as he had proposed. In Pomp’s recent tweet, he confirmed that he, Pomp and Peter Schiff will have a debate on “Bitcoin and Gold on CNBC’s Crypto Trader.”

They will try to stop it as much as they can. As discussed, that’s possible with centralized currencies. Not with bitcoin.

Not the same.

Dollar is backed by full faith and credit of the entire country. Bitcoin is made up thing that contributes to global warming and is backed by nothing.

So yeah, besides didn't you lose your 20k already.

Bitcoin has hornswoggled a lot of people. They call it "digital gold" that has to be "mined". It takes up a lot of resources to "create" and you end up with a passkey on a flash drive.

They call it a currency but it costs fees to use. It's price fluctuates so wildly that it is hard to calculate exchange rates. And it is slow compared to REAL currency or credit cards.

Some people are making money from the fools who are "investing" and "HODL". I suspect they (the fools) will still be holding after it has become clear to most people that there is no real value in a collection of 0s and 1s that need vast amounts of computing power to maintain while not working as a currency.

Can’t beat it, can’t destroy it, can’t even send a letter for a hearing invitation. It’s here to stay and will likely continue its parabolic bull run.

Onvacation,
So, you define it as a train wreck but you don’t think it will go to zero? So if it goes to 50k it’s still a train wreck for you? Are you sure train wreck is the right term for it then?

Don’t bother answering the question. I know you won’t.

Bitcoin has no intrinsic value and little extrinsic value beyond laundering money. The fanboys won't let it go to zero. There are still people holding out for $10k for their "rare" beeny baby.

It is a well thought out scam. They got the lingo associating it to gold. They set up artificial scarcity over decades.

Ultimately what is bitcoin but a string of 0s and 1s?

If it’s a scam (it was a train wreck briefly) then who is behind it, defrauding people? Don’t you need a scammer behind it for it to be a scam?

And why did nobody mention that it’s a scam in the congressional hearing?

Won’t answer as there is no good reason/benefit in doing so. You can ask 50times a day. What I would do is provide a screenshot of my alts when I sell them. I have told nobody where I have the hardware wallets and how much BTC I have. Do you think I openly share this on the inet?
