Excerpt:

"Most people who order a 28-day dry-aged steak that costs over $50 will relish it for the carefully prepared piece of meat that it is. But Donald Trump? He’s likely to order it well done and with a side of ketchup."

Seriously, this is gross.

I wouldn't go out to a top tier steakhouse, like Capital Grille, Grill 23, or Abe's in Boston and order an albatross like that. It's either the Au Jus (with horseradish on the side) or Worcestershire sauces for me.

I'm just a low level, junior executive, not a billionaire and I wouldn't put up with crap like that. You use ketchup (w/ Tabasco) with things like Jamaican Beef Patties or some other pastry of sorts, not a steak!

Worcestershire sauces for me

Even that is revolting. Almost as bad as watching the French pan fry a top tier cut in olive oil.

Salt and Pepper at most, my good sir. Au Jus if it is a French Dip sandwich.

A good steak needs no sauce at all besides it’s barely cooked juices.

Au Jus

For Prime Rib.

Tis true but one needs a bit of Worcestershire as a backup, just in case.

Medium rare with a little bit (seriously, only a little) of A1 and I'm good to go.

Ketchup? jesus

Agreed. I thought you were speaking of steak. Still gotta disagree on the horseradish, though.

Most people have to work at least an hour to pay for a $50 steak.....Trump,OTOH, works less than 5 seconds for a $50 steak. It's nothing special to him.
7   Shaman   2018 Apr 11, 2:55pm

The Donald is, in many ways, a slobbering Philistine. His culinary tastes are a big part of that.
8   Patrick   2018 Apr 11, 2:58pm

The Donald's tastes are very much in line with those of the average working class American.

Ketchup on a steak probably improves his popularity.

The problem is that it's a steak, not a make-your-own burger, like let's say R.F. Sullivan's just outside of Boston ...

Sure, it's ~$12 burger vs ~$50 steak but at least the burger (with whatever fixings one needs) makes sense for the quality of food that it is.

Because proper steak sauces look too much like Donny Make Moo?

Most steaks are prepped and seasoned very poorly. I would never eat a steak at the Ritz-Carlton with ketchup, but I would with a dry mass of beef from the Sizzler or Ponderosa or any Chain Restaurant except maybe Ruth's Cris.

Nobody buggers the South Americans for their Chimmichurri sauce, why badger Americans for Ketchup? EuroPoors only get to eat steak once a year if they make less than 90,000 Euros a year anyway, what do they know.

Yes, and it's a shitty cut as well. I feel bad for the EuroPoors.

Depends, for me. A ribeye, absolutely. You need nothing else for this cut.

I like filet mignon just a bit more, though, and while the texture is voluptuous at medium rare, filet mignon is notorious for lacking flavor. I take the steak out of the pan to rest, then deglaze the pan with red wine and do a sauce out of shallots, capers, a dab of mustard, and finish it with cold butter whisked in and fresh cut parsley. I might use a level tablespoon at most of this sauce on an 8 oz. filet.

Ordering out steaks at one of the better establishments is a waste of money to me. A perfectly cooked steak is one of the easiest things to master in your own kitchen. Find a good butcher so you are getting restaurant quality cuts (don't be fooled by prime cuts in grocery stores--they are still not as high quality). Anybody that lives in LA, I used to recommend Harvey's Guss Meat on Olympic, but, alas!, he retired and closed last month after 65 years.

I love ketchup but more so specialty sauces. Can't see anything wrong. As long as he doesn't shit on the sidewalk, raises my taxes for the welfare queens or tells me to check my white privilege I'm alright with anybody. Ketchup or not.

Exactly. I honestly don't want ketchup touching any steak I put in my mouth, but you know what, damn it, it's America. If he wants to slather ketchup all over this prime aged steak, which he asked for well done, that's his God given right.

I want to drive a V8 gas guzzling pickup, shoot a Daniel Defense AR-15 with a 60 round drum, and make love to my wife doggy style whenever I want. As long as I'm not hurting anyone, why should anyone care? I don't give a shit what any commie leftist thought police asshole thinks. Freedom is why I love America. Democrat leftist are the kids who always got picked last in dodge ball. They don't know how to enjoy freedom because they're trapped in their own insecurity. Fucking nerds.

Actually, seeing hoes is illegal in most states in America so please shut your self-indulgent claptrap on that hypocrisy!

And I like to FUCK HOES, but I have to take a road/air trip to Montreal to do it legally.

I can have my burgers (w/ ketchup) and my steaks (w / Worcestershire), whenever I want in Boston.

I think you should be able to have sex with hoes legally. But statist gonna state. Sorry bro.
18   Tenpoundbass   2018 Apr 11, 3:59pm

A good steak needs nothing but butter, ajus, or caramelized onions and mushrooms. And it doesn't need that.
But to put any condiment you buy off the shelf to put on it, is criminal. Whether it's Ketchup or Worcestershire sauce.

I'll dress up cheap steaks from the Latin grocer that was on sale for $3.99 a pound, with condiments, or marinade them.
But that's because the fat and marbling is missing.

Salt, it definitely needs salt though we said the same thing, we both missed salt.

Brothels are legal in Australia, a nation which isn't culturally much different from America, once you factor out the Puritanism.

Here's a recommendation, if you need one ...

Speaking of Steaks I had two 1 1/2 Ribeye bone in steaks in the Fridge wrapped in butcher wrap in the back of the Fridge. I thought we cooked it.
It was a little slimy and had a mild off smell. I rinsed it, and patted it dry and it smelled a little better. If I'm going to throw it away I figured I would grill it and give some to the cat and throw the rest away. Oh who am I kidding I figured if it taste good I would eat it.
So I grilled Medium Well not Med Rare. And... Well... It was delicious one of most tender steaks I had in a while. The bite taste test, it was great it taste more like Angus beef now with that strong grass fed taste. I don't know if it's because it's off, or if the aging brought out the flavor. I'm still weirded out and don't think I should eat it. But I would if I were hungry.

Though I'm still tempted to eat it. But I probably wont. No weird stomach rumblings after 10 minutes since I took a bite.
23   Tenpoundbass   2018 Apr 11, 4:36pm

I just took another bite I would eat that thing and think it was the best Steak I ever had in my life, has someone served it to me and I didn't know.

But I know... I was hopping it would taste bad or still smell bad which it doesn't. I just wanted to cook it before I threw it away rather than letting raw meat rot in my garbage can outside for two days. Especially after it had a head start and was already smelling slightly funky. It wasn't a pungent pew! What's that smell, just a sour off smell.
24   theoakman   2018 Apr 12, 7:28am

I eat my steak medium, sear it on both sides, seasoned with salt and nothing else. Occasionally, I'll top it off with butter. Peer pressure from people to eat it rare (or in many cases raw) is very cultish. A perfectly cooked rare steak is nice and I'll still eat it. A lot of times, I've seen people mistake raw and improperly cooked for "rare". Gordan Ramsay constantly screams at people trying to serve that nonsense on Hell's Kitchen.

That being said, I don't care how anyone else eats their steak. Do what you want. You might actually like it that way. Maybe you've convinced yourself that's it's good or you just continue to lie to yourself to appease others. I like my steaks my way and I would hope you like them your way, and not someone else's.

That being said, Worcestershire might as well be the equivalent of ketchup on a steak.

Just not on a good ass steak.

This is an important point between "blue" and "pink". I only eat raw steak as part of tartar (which is delicious).
27   Reality   2018 Apr 12, 8:25am

A higher quality cut of steak with plenty marbling can be served well-done, and is a lot safer (less likely to cause food poisoning). When I get to Trump's age, "country fried steak" (i.e. ground chuck shaped into like a piece of steak) might also be a preferable choice due to both less work required of the teeth and higher lean content in the meat.

I prefer my fillet mignon marinated for days before grilling. However, if a lower quality cut with less marbling is not marinated before being grilled, ketchup is not a bad choice, especially with a side of fries. Worcestershire source and A1 are good on the meat, but they taste weird when touching fries.

except maybe Ruth's Cris.

You experience must have been better than mine, as I was very disappointed by Ruth Chris. The best steak I ever had was at Peter Lugar in NY.

I never heard of this term "blue" before. If I saw "blue" on meat I just assumed it was the bruise from where the Jockey was hitting it.

I usually eat medium rare on good aged cuts.

So "blue rare" is the new term for "blood rare?"

Is this just a Trump hating thing or have you previously taken the time and energy to write comments on a forum about how a person eats a steak?
If I was as rich as some of these guys are, I don't even know what I would eat, but it wouldn't be a simple slab of beef.
33   steverbeaver   2018 Apr 12, 8:45pm

As far as I'm concerned if he paid for it he can have that motherfucker however he wants! Seriously though, ketchup is underrated. I love it on beef, especially if it's a good one. Maybe this was gourmand ketchup and not your typical sauce.

Order "Omakase" from a top tier Japanese place, $200/plate, and make sure that you get some wagyu beef portions, in addendum to the mixed seafoods.

And believe me, wagyu needs no sauce period! It simply melts in your mouth like butter.

I'd agree with that but there are still a lot of mediocre steaks out there for $50, Morton's for example. There's a place in SF that used to make butter crusted steaks that melt in your mouth best with no sauce / au jus for ~$50 called Bobos. Might have to go there again to see if it's still that good.
