I was just curious: are there some sort of major restrictions about parking RVs on public streets? I'm curious as to why every street in bay area isn't lined bumper-to-bumper with luxury RVs. A $200k RV has got to be a nicer place to live than my 60 year old house, and if you don't like your neighbors the RV is the clear winner. The lease payment on such an RV would probably be cheaper than the taxes on the house, too.

Some cities (like Foster City) prohibit it outright, some won't allow you to park overnight, some require you to move it every day or two.... As for living in one long-term - as somebody who rents them from time to time to go on family trips I would say they are not even close to even modest house. And the whole re-filling the fresh water tank and dumping black/gray water tanks gig gets very old very fast. Then there is the issue of electricity: unless you have a good solar setup you'll need to run a generator in order to keep your RV batteries topped off. Which might attract additional attention from the law enforcement.
