You can neither defend nor indict Trump given the little we know.

This type of shit should be reviewed in every possible way to make sure no quid pro quo occurs.

Where were you when wikileaks revealed HRC's dozens of conflicts of interests? In HRC's situation, we have plenty of evidence to suggest both wrongdoing and an active cover up. With Trump we have speculation. Big difference.

Anyone pissed about Trump but totes cool w HRC = hypocrite.

Americas agriculture does come first. He's working out a deal... something Democrats will never understand. Because the only thing Democrats understand is "give me, give me".

Somewhere someone well connected was about to lose their ass or ZTE gets back in business so Potus can have some photo ops with Kim in a few weeks.

Probably something close to this. I think he owed his good buddy Xi a small win (quid pro Kim), and it’s not like we are making phones in America. Why disrupt the market?

Well that's new. Does that mean in the future we will be hearing the same trump syncopates say you can't defend or indict Obama/hillary/bernie/whoever given the little we know? ROFLOL.

Anything that reflects badly on trump requires bringing up hillary.

Trump to Europe - If your companies even think about dealing with Iran "we will slam you".
Trump to ZTE who got convicted of dealing with Iran AND NK - no sweat I'll give you a bye.

Trump tweet “President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast. Too many jobs in China lost,” Gee when trump promised to save jobs I thought he meant american jobs. My bad.

Lido City development in Jakarta? Billion dollars Chinese funded? Trump-branded hotels, residences and a golf course. Not a word from two scoops or usual cast of trumpets?

My phone is made in Taiwan by a Taiwanese company. Plenty of phones that are made in China by not Chinese companies. The issue here is phones made in China by a Chinese company.

Yes, it's the obvious and predictable answer to Trump corruption. Don't you see ?

Trump's corruption will never compare to what Brietbart says Hillary and Bill did to get contributions to the Clinton foundation.

Also please acknowledge the class and sheer balls that Trump has ! No tax returns ever shown to the public. No divestiture from business interests. And no mamsy pamsy supposed do gooder foundation for pay to play. Just good old fashioned deals that are directly about paying him personally.

You have to admire his brazen moxie !

I'll bet Putin is impressed, and envious.

Nope wrong. Anything about pay for play DOES require brining up HRC though.

Trump discussion is pure speculation. There is actual evidence of pay for play w HRC that can be discussed.

Still waiting for all the evidence to add up to an arrest warrant or indictment. When will that be coming? All those BLOCKBUSTER revelations and no arrest. Sad.

As much taxpayer dollars that go into corporate agriculture it damn well should come first. Especially with all those corporate farms crying give me, give me. I thought we were cleaning up the swamp? I guess that doesn't include big contributors to the republican party.
17   socal2   2018 May 15, 10:22am

I don't know - but assume this is part of a deal to get China on board to sort out North Korea. If true, I think it is a pretty low price to pay.

My understanding that ZTE was used to demonstrate how easily US can bring to their knees even huge government-connected Chinese firms with just a flick of a finger.

All that China had to do is target agriculture and Trump gave up. Sad.

Thanks god China still can't make semiconductors. They've spent billions trying but so far that's one thing only we (and S. Korea and Japan) can make.

And they still kicked Trump's ass in this negotiation. You would think them not being able to make semiconductors would give us an upper hand.

I don't think it's Indonesia project alone. Mnuchin is trying not to rock the corporate boat which has no real allegiance to US. Bottom line, Trump is a crappy negotiator and clearly not a billionaire if he needs small $10.5 million bribes.

Here is a interesting article on the evolving semi industry in China. Of course their rivals in Taiwan have long mastered this.

Interesting evolution of talking points: from "nothing can be done on trade because it's impossible" to "much more could've been done".

Who said that? Most people on this board on both sides have been saying that China is a problem. Trump is doing a disservice to the country by starting something he can't finish. It's worse than inaction because poor negotiation likes this makes China stronger.

This is a fallacy, IMO: how does getting trade concessions in exchange to, say, not completely destroying ZTE is "making China stronger"? If anything it makes them weaker as it confirms that they can be pressured via threatening their companies dependent on US tech. They have nothing to hit back with and it became painfully obvious.

What trade concessions exactly did we get? I thought he wanted to reduce the trade deficit by something like $300B.

Loosening of ag and auto exports. And Chinese got nothing. Getting nothing doesn't make one "stronger".
As for reducing the deficit by $300B: this is a move in that direction. The same move can be done over and over again using many US-dependent Chinese companies as leverage.
