This...may be the perfect metaphor for leftism.

Rather than actually help the homeless, some "artist" spent thousands of dollars creating a statue of a homeless person sleeping on a bench. Which means actual homeless people can no longer sleep there.

What do you mean? It's HISTORY!
3   Shaman   2018 May 15, 1:28pm

It’s just the Democrat way of showing off their accomplishments! So proud...
5   justme   2018 May 15, 1:31pm

And the park also has a tall fence around it, to keep the homeless out. Really stupid.

But please, enough with the rightist virtue signalling. A rightist would instead have erected a statute of some southern civil-war general on a horse, on which one also could not sleep.
6   Tenpoundbass   2018 May 15, 1:42pm

How dare you talk about the progress. Obama's presidency can be summed up with one phrase...
"It's better than nothing..."
defeatist Liberals cheered every shitty legislation and every roughshod they ran over our heads.

"I know it sucks now, but it's better than nothing..."

That's shitty Progress. Shit! Doo Doo Ca Ca! Shit is better than what Obama did.

As Trump is proof, as Liberals all said Trump was SHIT but look at that Turd Shine!

Uh no, that was always Democrats also. Remember the roots of your party: KKK, Civil war, segregation, Jim Crow!

So you're going to drag that shit out? For about the 11th billionth time, the Democratic party of 100 years ago bears absolutely no resemblance to what it is today. And as such you have no real point to make.

Likewise at one point the GOP was actually the party of organized labor, natural conservation and basic civil rights. Now they're the party of bigots, stupid witch hunts and misplaced paranoia.

Either way today's conservatives are the same as they've always been. Assholes.

Not 100 years ago. Barely 50 years ago. Bill Clinton was praising Fulbright not too long ago.

And what have Democrats accomplished for African Americans in that time other than destroying the black family (nearly 80% born to single mothers) and a lifetime of government dependency, poverty and crime?

If the bench is part of the sculpture, then nobody could ever sleep there. Good example of right wing "reasoning."

But at the end of the day all you're trying to do ( and failing ) is to somehow detract from your party's shitty behavior.

Huh? Once the Republicans took over the South, the South became less racist. That's shitty behavior?

Democrats to their ever loving shame try to paper over their own racist history and somehow try to make the South's embrace of integration and civil rights as a pox on Republicans.

nd yet here we have you, another genius bringing up the distant past in a lame, limp-dick attempt to draw attention away from the GOP of TODAY, which took the mantle away from the old Democratic party.

You Trump supporters can whine and wail all day long. Your party is shit. Your president is also a piece of trash. Get over yourselves.

Ah liberalism.

Funny, the way many of us see it: the moment the democratic party became less tolerant of racism and were a disappointment to a lot of southerners, the republicans saw a opportunity to move in, with their dog whistles etc. They have a name for this. History books refer to it as "the southern strategy."

I don't know that there is any one particular moment. Perhaps Kennedy pushing the issue on school integration was a watershed moment. I honestly don't know.

Yes, Wallace was a southern democrat, but northern democrats were challenging the southern democrats. Wallce eventually became an independent.

Glad that some northern Democrats finally got on the right side of history. Took long enough.

Before JFK was president, we had a Republican president (Eisenhower) activating the freaking national guard down in Bill Clinton's state to force desegregation at schools.

The important part for both the left and right is that you don't listen to each other. Keep talking around each other, cherry picking the worst from the other party's past. Listen and embrace the memes provided by your respective party. That way status quo will continue.

Most of politics is merely rationalizations for opinions formed for other reasons.

The real reasons may be good or bad, but they are as a rule never actually spoken out loud because they are either embarrassing, or politically incorrect, or career suicide.

It would be super-interesting if people could actually say what they really mean, like "I hate working class white people, especially Christians" or "I don't want to live anywhere near black people. They scare me."

What is the left?

Is it the SJWs? In part, and they suck.

Is it believing in public education? I do, and that makes me a lefty doesn't it? There are problems with the public system, but I believe it could improve if we give educators more disciplinary options. Kind of a righty opinion that last part?

I believe in fiscal responsibility, which doesn't seem to apply to any political party on the face of the earth.

I was a victim of affirmative action a couple of decades ago, but decided it was a necessary evil. I'd preferred if they called it tactical discrimination, because it didn't feel very affirmative to me. The term reverse discrimination was even worse. Now I think it's time to wrap it up.

I'd like to see universal health care in the US, because it would make the US more competitive. If an individual wants to leave a dead end job with good health insurance to start an entrepreneurial initiative, they would have more confidence in doing so with universal health care. Why stop with insuring the poor and the old who provide minimal economic inputs, when there could be insurance for the producers to improve job mobility.

So tell me, am I part of the vile left?

Yes, because we know that a lot of people that don't like Trump are secretly motivated by this kind of thinking. If only they would admit it.

It must be true, becasue we all know that Trump sincerely wants to help working class white folks, who have been singled out for oppression for too long. So to dislike Trump is to hate this demographic.

I'm convinced that the core of Trumpism is belief in strawman arguments. That's basically all Trump supporters have.
29   FortWayne   2018 May 16, 8:02am

Some are very vocal about hating “white” people. Left has worked overtime to make that hatred widespread.

The right's lame attempt to point fingers to the DNC's past is the same as telling everyone who won the superbowl in 1992.

None of us give a shit about that. All of care about whats happening... right NOW... As in more in the news today that Trump's campaign did in fact meet with Russian lawyers to dig up dirt on Hillary. Even the advisor to the Trump campaign advised against doing it and yet Trump Jr and other members of Trump's campaign did so anyway. The transcripts were released today, this DID happen, and as such it IS an example of a campaign intentionally using a foreign nation to affect the outcome of an election.

That's about as Un-American as it gets. And as such those whom still support Trump support a man who more or less betrayed his own country.

So you can yammer on and on till the cows come home about the Clintons, "Lib-Rals", Antifa, Immigrants and the Democratic party's past in the 1960's South but NONE of that will come close to deflecting from Trump and the GOP's current actions.

The South is no longer what people think it is.

The stereotype is used constantly to justify anti-white hatred, but most Southern white people are much more like Bill Clinton than like the Grand Wizard.

It's not about solutions, that usually requires effort. It's about creating awareness.
