I guess making Lando a pansexual wasn't the marketing genius move Kennedy thought it would be?

The last Jedi was a great movie, it perfectly transitioned away from the older series and the nostalgia-fest that had to be the first movie. Not saying I didn't love The Force Awakens, it was great. Just saying they can't do that for three movies, and at some point you have to move the old characters to the background, and let the new one's take over.

I just watched it again last night with the kids on Netflix. When you fast forward through all of the casino world shit it cuts 20 minutes and the movie is much better. There are some really great things in it. I like Rey and Kylo Ren scenes and story.

But there were some mind boggling stupid bits too. Why did Holdo not tell Poe her fucking plan and waste time with the the preposterous mission to the Casino planet to find a code breaker and then the mutiny? Luke was completely wasted. Leia Mary Poppins??? Snoke wasted?

No one can edit worth a shit for the last 20 years or so. Seems like every second of shooting has to go into the films no matter what. I guess shooting is so expensive no one wants to leave anything on the cutting room floor. At least 90% of the movies I have watched can have 25% or more edited out. The other problem is ponderous dialogue in monotone. Somewhere along the line tension and tight interplay has died. Even action sequences manage to have totally flat dialogue. It's like actors are taking eeyore from winnie the poo as their mentor. The exception to that being almost any film by Tom Hanks. Every director today should be forced to watch Charlie Wilsons War 100 times to see how dialogue and editing is supposed to be done.

All of the horrible editing, horrible writing, bad editing aside. One of the things that sunk this new trilogy is the poor casting I really don’t like any of the new main characters but then again it could be that the writing is what ruined them too. They did a major disservice to the way they transitioned all of the old characters they only had one chance to do this right and they screwed it up especially with Luke. Last and this one I cannot understand why they would screwed this up, they should have had all three movies already written and carefully planned so they all meshed together well in one fluid story. Star Wars is a total cash cow I just don’t understand how they would let different directors just do their own thing with each part of the trilogy they still have to make the third one but to me they already totaled the trilogy after TLJ and I don’t think it matters what they do at this point.

Solo is another perfect example they really fucked it up, I hope that they come out with a version that shows what it looked like before the whole thing was reshot. How could they justify spending over 300M on it without somebody not getting shit canned?

They invested so heavily in her, they can't shift the blame and walk away, either.

Frankly, the only Star Wars that mattered to me is the first three. Had they used the expanded universe from the comics - I read a few as a kid - it could have been awesome.

Jesus Christ, the whole of II and III is centered around the power of Luke's Friendships, and to see him abandon everybody is pure BS.

What's funny is that if you google "Han Solo White Men" instead of getting articles explaining how offending the hardcore Star Wars fans, who are overwhelmingly White, Male, and Heterosexual, you get articles that the movie failed because the lead was Han Solo, a White Male.

Which is retarded because Solo repeatedly is the #1 fan favorite character.

Then you add in all the Pansexual Crap and sexualize Star Wars, and it's all fucked up.

It's actually wonderful in a weird way.

You have the SJWs in the PR and HR and Creative departments telling Management SJW is the coming thing.
The Management spends a goddamn fortune
And the movie performs well under spec.

Companies are going to have to learn the hard way that Diversity Diversity Pansexual Hate the White Males Shit doesn't bring in the Mostly Young, White, Het, Male Sci Fi Fanbase.

The theme parks will benefit though. It's not all about the new movies necessarily. Multiple revenue streams. Iger would obviously know more then I do, but once the updates to World and Land are finished, there will be a boost in attendance for sure.

In 5 years $4B is going to look like a deal for them. It doesn't look good on paper now, but I think it will even if the new movie product isn't that great.

Solo's total production and marketing costs are estimated at around $500 million.

So far, it's grossed around $340 million world wide and is tanking badly.

Considering the typical theater share is 50%, Solo has basically made Disney around $170 million to date, at a cost of $500 million.

Remember, this is a brand which has REGULARLY profited half a billion dollars or more per film since the Lucas reboot with Episode 1.

There's a reason Kathleen Kennedy is facing the gallows. She has literally strangled the value out of the Star Wars brand with her SJW feminazi bullshit.

The SJW influence dominating the movie is the same argument I used for not watching Black Panther(racism ruined it). After my black friend disagreed that the characters being black was important, I decided to give it a chance. While there is definitely some revisionist history going in when talking about blacks in the world, the movie was solid overall, and racism really wasn't a part of it.

I notice you guys ignored my Mon Mothma reference. Guess you're not ready to point your SJW lens at Return of the Jedi...

You think that's why fans hate Admiral Holdo? Because she's a woman with a high rank? Then how do you explain Princess Leia who is you know, the highest ranking Alliance person ever, yet is universally beloved by fans?

Fans hate Holdo because of her SJW stylings, her character's femi-nazi emasculation of her 2nd in command (for literally no reason), and the fact she literally came out of nowhere to become the female SJW savior of the alliance, while Admiral Ackbar got killed by being vacuumed into space.

And don't forget, the Admiral wasn't even a white fish, like a Pollack or a Halibut.

He was definitely a dark fish and thus, the original 'Return of the Jedi' showed more respect for darker space fish types (like Blue fish, Catfish, or Salmon) than today's crap, which all about victimized white women, ala Hillary Clinton.

How badly is Solo under-performing?

Oh, it’s bad.

Keeping in mind that the trades reporting on Solo’s box office tend to suck up to the studios by making things sound better than they really are — and things still look bad. Over this four-day Memorial Day weekend, Solo is belly-flopping at right around $114 million. Solo’s three-day take (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) is $93 million.

Comparing apples-to-apples, here are the three-day openings…

Solo: $92 million

The Last Jedi: $220 million

Rogue One: $155 million

When you figure in for inflation, even the dreaded prequels (that opened on a lot fewer screens) will out-perform Solo.

The Phantom Menace opened to $114 million (2970 screens) in 1999, Attack of the Clones opened to $126 million (3161 screens) in 2002, and Revenge of the Sith opened to $153 million (3663 screens) in 2005.

Solo opened on a whopping 4400 screens.

For an even clearer perspective, on its opening Friday, Rogue One earned $71 million. Solo made about half that, $36.5 million.

Internationally, that magical place where most domestic box office bombs go to thrive, Solo is even doing worse. In 43 markets, over two whole days, Solo made a paltry $11.4 million.

So what is happening? Why such a collapse?

Two words: Kathleen and Kennedy.

I hear you. Getting into Disney Land or World is significantly more revenue for them compared to a movie though. I think the movies are average at best (new ones) but they're entertaining enough.

It would probably take close to 10 movie goers compared to 1 paid ticket to Disney World for the same net profit. Even if someone only saw The Empire Strikes back, essentially a property they own now, they'd still probably be intrigued to go to DL/DW and check the rides out and shit (once they're complete). You don't even need to see the new one's technically to get interested in Star Wars.

They have to show upset about poor box office results, but it's a long play for Disney even if it looks bad now. They've got the marketing, branding and brainwashing down to a science. SW will be a massive cash cow for them, you can't just base it on the new movie attendance/revenue numbers. You can dislike the movies (won't argue that) but it's too early to call this a loss for Disney in my opinion. (Disclaimer: I'm a shareholder).

I am not a Disney shareholder (at least directly) so I do not know what their revenue and earnings are from their Star Wars related theme parks.

However, brand damage is brand damage. If there was a theme park based around the Ghost Busters 2016 movie, one could imagine that there might not be many people willing to visit the park. If Disney's Star Wars themed park is based around the new SJW movies, I imagine that there would be a decrease in revenue compared to if the brand was never damaged in the first place.
