There were multiple state primaries last night, but the focus was clearly on California since if a "blue wave" were to materialize, it would happen in the bluest state in the country right?

Well, it didn't happen and Democrats lost bigly.

The biggest victory of the night was the recall of Senator Josh Newman and the victory for Senator-elect Ling Ling Chang (R) in a district where Democrat registrations outpace GOP registrations. Newman is only the 6th politician recalled in California history. His support for the gas tax was hugely unpopular in his district, and he was quickly ousted and replaced by Republican Chang which ended the Democrat super majority in California.

Democrats were specifically targeting four congressional seats to flip from Republican to Democrat, and Republicans came out on top in ALL FOUR. Mimi Walters, Dana Rohrabacher, Young Kim and Diane Harkey all won their district primaries bigly.

Tony Mendoza lost to Republican Rita Topalian in Senate District 32, allowing the GOP to pick up another Senate seat immediately.

John Cox got onto the governor ballot for November and even though his odds to win are slim, having a GOP governor candidate was not guaranteed by early 2018 polls, and not having one would have possibly suppressed the conservative vote. But that didn't transpire, and Cox was the clear #2 in the primary.

Where the fuck was the blue wave? Any Democrats care to explain? Reuters, 538, and RCP now show the midterms as statistically even when it was +9 for Democrats in January.

What happened Democrats? Where was the blue wave?

Considering only 19% voter participation, I’m going to speculate that only people who are partisan voted this time around. That’s people who feel strongly one way or another, all red or all blue.
The moderates, the less interested, and the middle of the road undecideds will vote in the General election as usual, usually to the tune of 150-200% more than the primary election. Adding the governor races together we have a fairly close race between parties, with the GOP vote being split possibly three or more ways.

In November, the difference between an extreme Leftist progressive Newsome vs a moderate pro-business conservative Cox will be absolutely stark. Voters will understand to their fucking BONES that Left means MOAR TAXES includintnth very unpopular and regressive gas tax and water conservation plans, and the Right means solutions and less taxes and waste.

I am not ready to predict a GOP governor win in california. Too many ignorant people here for that, and too many wealthy elite who wish to fuck over the working class. But I do think it will be close.
2   Goran_K   2018 Jun 6, 3:27pm

True, I think a Cox win is a looong shot, but Californians already handed two seats to the GOP yesterday, and the 4 that the Democrats wanted to flip are highly unlikely to flip based on the primary percentages.

The Blue wave is like the legendary Yeti, every Democrat claims to have seen it, yet there is no conclusive evidence of its existence.

I'm pleasantly surprised. It's the Trump affect. Success must be contagious.

You are right in a way. The votes of democrats and republicans wash each other out. Only Independents like me get to decide who wins.
I feel honored. Thank You.

I hope I motivate any Democrat to find the truth since I used to be one, part of why I post online.

and yes CNN is terrible, but let's ignore CNN, or even 538, RCP, Reuters who all have the midterms as a dead heat now when Democrats were polling 9+ points ahead just 5 months ago.

What would you call Democrats losing 2 representative seats to the GOP, and losing bigly (like double digit percentage points) in the 4 primaries in districts they are depending on to flip, in the bluest state in the country?

Would you call that a blue wave?

It's the first in a series of steps for mentally disturbed people--it wasn't for nothing that it was the center of the universe for the Summer of Love. But going all the way back to the early 20th century, it attracted dreamers and off-kilter people. What would you expect from the home of Hollywood? The next step is Portland or Eugene, Oregon, then on to Seattle. For the really whacked out it's north to Alaska where they hunker down in some lonely outpost and nurse their grievances.

Hahaha. You didn't even read it. The fact that Newsom has a republican oponent in the fall is a huge win for him

As for the number of races that have no democrat after the primary ? Zero. Read the facts presented in the article I linked. Being allergic to facts is not a good strategy for understanding the world, but it's probably advisable for those that just want to be trolls.

So? The state has 3,000,000 MORE registered Democrat voters than GOP. Were you expecting a lockout? I wasn't. Is that what CNN is telling you to celebrate?

Like I said, Democrats lost 2 seats this week in Blue as Blue California (one of which was in a district that leans blue), and it looks like they won't flip ANY of the seats they were looking to flip in California. Reuters, RCP, and 538 now have the midterms and house control a toss up when Democrats were up +9 early in the year and Anderson Cooper was jacking off to the thought of a "blue wave".

You still want to celebrate?
17   marcus   2018 Jun 7, 10:24am

I'm not celebrating. Like most people, I was hardly aware there was an election.

You're the one celebrating, or trying to hard to find something to celebrate, about the 19% of people that voted.

We don't find out about how much the so called blue wave materializes until the fall, regardless of how much noise you make about it between now and then.

While Villaraigosa may have been a marginally better choice for GOP voters to pick in a strict race between the Democrats, he’s still a shit sandwich when it comes to conservative values. We’d rather have a Republican on the ticket for two very important reasons:
1)Energizes conservative base in November. Many will turn out to vote against Newsome who has about as unsavory a reputation with conservatives as is possible to have. He makes Shrillary Clinton look reasonable and balanced.
2)NUMEROUS Democrat MISSTEPS of legislation including tranny bathroom bills, mandatory sex education for kids that includes gay sex, gasoline and registration added taxes that are terribly regressive against the poor and working classes, and many environmental laws that make just living here more and more difficult. These are driving people towards conservative ideals in record numbers. We might just get a Republican governor out of all the outrage! Don’t count on Latinos to deliver the promised blue vote this time. They wanted Villaraigosa and are going to be butthurt that he got shut out in such a shady way!

I’m making a soft prediction now.
Trump will win California in 2020.

Agreed. If nothing else, having a Conservative in the election can help steer the conversation to important issues detailing many of California's massive failures.

I'd love to be able to debate Loathsome Newsom and ask:

- "You always crow about California being one of the world's largest economies, why does California have the highest poverty rate in the country?"
- "Why does California have the highest income inequality where Liberals have the most power like Silicon Valley and Los Angeles?"
- "Why does California have some of the country's shittiest performing schools and infrastructure, despite having some of the highest taxes in the country"?
- "How is it fair to let poor minority majority cities like Stockton go bankrupt, yet the government unionized bureaucracy doesn't have to reform any of their lavish and unsustainable salary and pension packages that are the main driver causing municipal bankruptcy?"
- "You always brag that California is the leader in innovation, then why is California spending billions (we don't have) on 18th century technology like trains?"

How can we have such shitty infrastructure, shitty schools, bankrupt cities, and the nation's highest poverty when the economy is this big and taxes are so high?

B-b-but, in Okefenokee Swamp, a Democrat beat a Republican who was just caught up in an Adultery Scandal in a State Race by 2 whole points! That's proof Dems will take back the entire House and Senate then Impeach Trumpler !

They ended the Democrat's super majority in the Senate by recalling Josh Newman.

Oh, I see, what about one from the lefty favorite New York Times?

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/06/us/-homelessness-housing-san-francisco.html?hp

As San Francisco streets have grown dirtier, videos showing syringes scattered throughout downtown have gone viral. The city’s hotels have urged the mayor’s office to solve the homelessness crisis, while the San Francisco Travel Association attributed the city’s lower-than-expected tourist numbers in 2017 to the shock of seeing people living in tent communities on the streets. At the same time, new development is stalling.

This troubling brew is pulling otherwise liberal residents into Republican politics, said Jason Clark, 37, the chairman of the San Francisco Republican Party, who organized Tuesday night’s event.

Which makes sense, that's the only way the recall of Josh Newman would have mathematically worked, is by having DEMOCRATS turn sides.

You still believe a blue wave is coming?

Except they actually won TWO seats this week (Newman which flipped due to recall, and Topalian who took Democrat sex predator Mendoza's seat in a special primary election). Thus ending the Democrat super majority.

Also interesting of note, Sabrina Cervantes who helped pass the gas tax, LOST the primary to the main GOP candidate in the district (46.6% to 53.4%.) and looks very likely to FLIP to Republican in November. That would be 3 lost seats in California alone. This is an incredible turn around for this district since Cervantes won her first term by 9 points in 2016.

All 4 "gazelle" seats the Democrats were targeting ended up being won big by Republican candidates as well (Mimi Walters, Dana Rohrabacher, Young Kim and Diane Harkey), and if voting turnout remains consistent between both sides, will likely stay in GOP hands.

Where the fuck is the blue wave again?

People don't realize that Trump actually got more votes than Jerry Brown did in 2012. Conservatives aren't the dominant force in CA politics, but they are not staying silent, and this week's primary proved that.
