Except they are laying off highly paid corporate jobs. Thanks Republicans for giving corporations free money that the rest of us have to pay back.

All corporations go through reorganizations, it's a market decision. If you don't need a layer of executives and can still maintain the same organizational effectiveness, why would you continue paying them? Corporations aren't in the business of providing welfare.

This is the problem with leftist ideology, the idea that something is deserved regardless of what an individual provides in exchange.

So Trumps fault for the layoffs, ok. There stock is down 4% for the year, probably for the price increases what caused that?

Well, they could have shot them in the face.

Why do you hate mercy?

That would be mercy compared to making them eat thier own food.

What about the rest of the corporations? I hear there are more jobs available, then people looking for jobs. It's never happened before.
All thanks to Trump's tax cuts.

Ba Dah Bum Bah Dah!
When was the last time MDS proclaimed they are "Loving it!"?

Not since they started investing in better food quality and better caliber of employees.
Lot of those executive jobs were working to come up with creative ways to sell their almost inedible food and spin it as hip and trendy food for the Muhleanials.

If McDonalds doesn’t need them, the laid off employees have a wonderful employment market to enter for their next gig. Right now is the best time to be a job seeker than at any time during Obummer’s Presidency!
9   Shaman   2018 Jun 7, 10:28am

Also I’m hearing about many companies who operate in the real work doing real world things and can’t hire enough qualified or even semi-qualified blue collar tradesmen. Already higher than most white collar jobs, blue collar wages are rising fast, and hiring bonuses are back on the table.
It’s a great time to be a worker, and as long as Trump can keep his immigration pimp hand strong, it will continue to be!

Exactly who is getting laid off? Is this fallout for the fight for $15, or something else?
11   anotheraccount   2018 Jun 7, 12:45pm

They are laying off $500 Million worth of jobs (annual cost). At 100K a year, that's 5000 jobs. Do you think that it's easy to find 100K job for 5000 people?

With almost 7 million openings, and a severe shortage of skilled labor, yes, it is easy for the right person to find a $100K job.

Amazing how news can be spun to fit a narrative...

Exactly. ALL corporations do that EVERY DAY.

McDonald's is slimming down its corporate structure and laying off workers in an effort to reduce expenses by $500 million by the end of 2019.

In an email to all U.S. employees, suppliers and franchisees, McDonald's USA President Chris Kempczinski said the Golden Arches would be restructuring its regional offices around the country, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

"I recognize that change is difficult, and that eliminating layers within our organization means some employees will ultimately exit our system," Kempczinski said in the memo, according to The Wall Street Journal.

"We are always evaluating ways to better serve our customers and continue to grow our business," Terri Hickey, a spokeswoman for McDonald's, told CNBC via email. "With that in mind, we are putting into place a new U.S. field structure that will better support our franchisees and will ensure McDonald's continues on a path to being more dynamic, nimble and competitive."

Certain industries are always on the rise or the decline, depending on how well they serve customers and the needs of the population.

Is it any surprise that McDonalds has been found to be serving customers less well than more progressive fast food companies with healthier/tastier choices? Poor service has consequences. In a strong economy, moving from a failed corporation to a rising corporation is a positive move for workers.

McDonalds has 440,000 employees, so they're laying off 1%...

Is that a big issue?

They have 440,000 employees - 400,000 of whom make 20K a year. We are talking about people making 100K a year. They are laying off 12% of their highly paid employees.

So what? You want them to be unprofitable, and lay everyone off?
McDonalds is installing the order taking touch screen computers in 1000 stores every quarter. The 20K a year teens better get a skill that does not require a Nintendo.

Ever hear of the 80/20 Rule in business regarding employees?

Make sure you're part of the 20%, and you'll never worry and lose sleep about losing your job.

MCD was already very profitable before the tax cut and before the layoffs. The point is that they did not need the tax cut and are not raising wages or creating new jobs with it.

What does this have to do with MCD getting a fat check from the government and then laying people off?

You don't know that. Maybe a lot more employees would have been laid off had it not been for the tax cuts.
Also, you cannot take the example of just one cherry picked company to determine wether the tax cuts were a success or not. It's like hitting the tree, but missing the forest.
Overall, the spectacular employment numbers clearly show the tax cuts along with the confidence that Trump has generated is creating too many jobs all at once. We don't have enough people to fill all the jobs. It's too much of something good that will actually hurt us.
My message to Trump.....Slow down dude, you have 6.5 years to go.

So increasing federal spending by 7% and decreasing federal revenue by a lot more than that is the definition of a Republican president now - definitely not a fiscal conservative. The sugar high will wear off soon - it seems that he is repeating Bush's formula on a larger scale.

I doubt if revenues are slowing down. Even California got in more than expected. What surprises me is you, as a liberal don't seem to be happy with the jobs being created. I always thought it was the bleeding heart liberals who always wanted more jobs.
It's all politics, isn't it? Sad.

Because one has absolutely nothing to do with the other (except in Libbie minds). It's like comparing apples to hammers.

Wait, isn't that the standard MO for Liberals? They seem to like to focus on "needles" instead of the "haystacks".

But, but, but... those mid level MCD managers (at ONE company out of how many hundreds of thousands)....

Please stop with those pesky facts. :)

California did not have a tax cut. You are right, federal revenues this calendar year Jan - April are running above last year's level by 4% (due to huge April). Outlays are running at 6% higher than last year. Source - page 2: https://www.fiscal.treasury.gov/fsreports/rpt/mthTreasStmt/mts0418.pdf
