Yes, the problem is really the concentration of high-paying jobs in just a few areas.
Ironically, a lot of those high-paying jobs are working with the Internet, which itself was supposed to make it irrelevant where you live. Just the opposite happened. If you want one of those jobs, it matters more than ever that you live in one of the few tech centers.
"Property investors have poured no small amount of money and concrete into U.S. rental apartments recently, concentrating on upscale projects in urban cores. The result is a glut of units affordable to affluent renters and far less supply for everyone else.
The vacancy rate for the most expensive 10th of U.S. apartments topped 13 percent in the first quarter, according to a study by CoStar Group Inc. For the rest, the figure was about 6 percent. There were 537,000 apartments under construction -- the most since at least 2000 -- and they’re disproportionately located in the most expensive submarkets, the study shows."
Builders will build the most profitable homes first. When they are restricted to build only a few homes, the lower priced and lower profit homes never get built. It's that simple.
Deporting illegal aliens, even with a wall, won’t change much of anything
Right. Deporting 3M illegals from 30M state "won't change anything". Except huge number of apartments suddenly becoming available to citizens thus lovering the rents. Isn't it what the cry is about, "the rents are too damn high"?
