I used to think until mere weeks ago that WW1 was a bullshit war that the USA should have stayed out of.

But then i discovered this:

In the early years of World War I, as many as 1,000 American horses per day were shipped off to Europe to assist in the Allied war effort, even though the United States was officially neutral. Those horses became the target of germ warfare, infected with anthrax cultures on American soil; at the same time, mysterious explosions were rocking U.S. munitions factories, and fires were breaking out on ships headed to Europe.

One of the worst explosions in US History, blowing out windows as far as Manhattan. Act of sabotage by Germany before we were at war.

I understand the Germans were also working on Mexico to attempt an invasion and thus distract Americans from the European conflict. Lots of spy shit going on.

We essentially fought a war for British and French colonial expansion. Eastern Europe still had to fight the Soviets for their freedom.

WAAT? What colonial expansion?

WW1 (and WW2) was a great deal for the US. It pretty much destroyed rival European powers, boosted the US industry and finances, then the US army showed up at the last minute to tilt the balance between already exhausted contestants with minimal casualties (relative to other powers).
These 2 wars left the US the dominant super power in the world.

The war was started because of the on going feuds of the Germanic and Prussia people over Baltic politics. It was a powder keg the British set off.

Former German colonies all went to Britain, Japan, and possibly France.

Which colonies?

The western front was in France, trying to push Germans out.

But this was a war between France, England, Russia, Italy on 1 side. Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey on the other side. It was more than 1 front.

This is hardly new information. I read about operation Pastorius in the 1970's. I looked it up and the book I read was called Operation Pastorius by George Dasch that was published in 1959. Pretty good read.

The initial assessment that is was a BS war was correct. The attacks suggested as examples of justifying attacks do not change the fact. The US had effectively already entered the war by deciding to supply Britain. They could not honestly claim neutrality and therefore enemy sabotage could be justified.
