... until an Agreement with North Korea is "No big deal, that anybody could have done".

Recall that months ago, it was both impossible, as evidenced that people far better than Trump had failed, and that Trump's hardball tactics only risked Nuclear War.

Oh, and don't forget the cog diss: All credit for this No Big Deal should go to President Moon of South Korea

I wonder how many of the construction contacts the Trump Organization will get in North Korea?

So it begins.

There is a deep fear that giving Trump even the slightest bit of credit for his considerable accomplishments so far will turn the steady stream of defectors from The Narrative of "bad white men" into an absolute avalanche.

Their fear is my hope.

I'll give him credit when he makes a good deal. Getting a meeting is not an accomplishment--N. Korea has been trying to meet with a US President for the last 20 years.

I'm not saying it's bad to meet with them, just that saying "yes" to them isn't really an accomplishment.

"It’s not that previous presidents didn’t have the option of meeting with the head of the hermit kingdom. “North Korea has been seeking a summit with an American president for more than twenty years,” Jeffrey Lewis, director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at Middlebury Institute of International studies tweeted Thursday night. “It has literally been a top foreign policy goal of Pyongyang since Kim Jong Il invited Bill Clinton.”

Yep, Obama made some great headway during his meeting with them...

Oh, wait, Obama never arranged a meeting...

But, Obama was great at bowing down to other leaders in the area.

Yes, it has. Kim has gone from Little Rocket Man to a legitimized player (nuclear I might add) on the world stage getting invitations and recognition from world leaders.

Yuuggee win for Kim - absolutely fucking yuuggee and same for his handlers, China and Russia.

All very valid observations. It doesn't mean that Trump can't get a good deal, and or that Kim isn't ready to deal. But it does mean that it's possible that it's way better for Kim than us, and even possible that it ends up helping Kim and North Korea in many ways while not truly helping us or south Korea in any meaningful and lasting ways.

It doesn't seem like long ago at all Mitt Romney and all the right wing pundits were piling on Obama for saying that he might be willing to talk to North Korea or Iran, without any major preliminary concessions.

The Leftists have bet everything on Trump being a huge failure. They’ve predicted as much in every article, comedy sketch, pundit interview, and celebrity tweet.
So it’s really going to burn when Trump turns out to be the most successful POTUS since FDR! A New Deal for Making America Great Again!
7   marcus   2018 Jun 10, 2:59pm

Remember Republicans good, democrats bad. Very bad.

Only republican leaders can be permitted to be be seen as successful.

It’s always a great deal to stop being insane and friendless and start being productive and social. Trump should get credit for curing that rabid dog, and turning him into a little hairy fellow that’s happy to eat his own shit.

That is already pretty much guaranteed not to happen. He could get lucky. He might even use his prestige on the right to get some good things done. But the image he has constructed for himself will never do well with history, and the rest of the world will never totally reverse their opinion. But hey, maybe he is a genius and these are all sacrifices he
is willing to make for the good of the country.

Seems more like to me though that he really is the guy he presents himself to be.

The hypocrisy between Liberals on the Iran Deal versus Korea are unbelievable.

1) Neither Bush nor Obama prevented DPRK from getting nukes, and then better nukes
2) Neither Bush nor Obama prevented DPRK from building larger payload, longer distance ballistic missiles.
3) Neither Bush nor Obama got DPRK to talk about a permanent end to the Korean War, with either themselves or ROK.
4a) The Obama Administration gave Palettes of Cash to Iran. Given up front in the Billions of USD.
4b) Ended most sanctions on Iran from not just the US but the EU and worldwide,
4c) Allowed Iran to access US Financial System (hitherto unknown)
4d) In exchange for a limited, short term nuclear inspection regime of Iranian nuclear facilities
4e) With NO controls on ballistic missiles.

The hypocrisy between how liberals viewed the weak Iran (who currently does not have nukes) Deal for any progress on Korea which was totally stalled for 70 years and already has the nukes is stunning.

Now the Liberals are redefining success of North Korea way, way in excess of the Iran Deal they celebrated as a breakthrough by the Golden Child.

After months of insisting any engagement with North Korea was impossible and would lead to Nuclear War, Liberals are now demanding more from Trump than they ever did from Obama on Iran, even though no prior President has accomplished anything like what has been done already.

Under Obama's Iran Agreement, Iran was completely free to test ballistic missiles which serve little purpose other than to deliver WMDs. Nor was Iran permanently restrained from developing nuclear weapons, only a temporary inspection regime that weakened as time went forward, while the cash was delivered up front.

Contrast that to what Trump has already accomplished by getting Kim, who had nuclear weapons more than a decade before he became President agreeing to suspend all nuke and ICBM testing, releasing hostages, and making assorted good faith gestures prior to the Singapore Meeting.

Doesn't everyone say that Kim was willing to suspend Nuke and missile testing becasue he's satisfied they have tested enough to satisfy themselves and to convince the world of what they have?

How is this a great accomplishment of Trump's ? Hardly even meets the description of being in the right place at the right time.

Most of DPRKs lastest tests were failures, as I recall. It actually made DPRK look bad, because the chances of them actually launching something were chancy and they don't have 100 of them, hoping that a third of them get off the launch pad.

Iran had no nukes, so quite harder to get somebody to give up all nukes like DPRK.
