Christian Leaders To Jeff Sessions: The Bible Does Not Justify Separating Families

WASHINGTON ― Attorney General Jeff Sessions seems to think Jesus would love his policy of separating immigrant families at the border.

Christian leaders say otherwise.

“While protecting our borders is important, we can and must do better as a government, and as a society, to find other ways to ensure that safety,” Cardinal Daniel Nicholas DiNardo, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, said in a statement. ”Separating babies from their mothers is not the answer and is immoral.”

“Disgraceful,” the Rev. Franklin Graham, son of the late and influential Rev. Billy Graham and a supporter of President Donald Trump, said in a Tuesday interview. “It’s terrible to see families ripped apart, and I don’t support that one bit.”

Even Sessions’ own church, the United Methodist Church, is rejecting what he is doing.

“Tearing children away from parents who have made a dangerous journey to provide a safe and sufficient life for them is unnecessarily cruel and detrimental to the well-being of parents and children,” reads a statement signed by Bishop Kenneth Carter, president of the Council of Bishops of the United Methodist Church.

Sessions has drawn widespread condemnation for his “zero-tolerance” immigration policy, which separates children from their parents so the adults can be criminally prosecuted for crossing the border without documentation. But the attorney general hit another nerve Thursday when he claimed the Bible justifies his actions.

“Concerns raised by our church friends about separating families” are not “not fair or logical,” he said in a speech in Fort Wayne, Indiana. “I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13 to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained them for the purpose of order.”

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders backed up Sessions’ claims later that day, calling it “very biblical to enforce the law.”

Those kids are getting a better education than any private school you would pay for out of your pocket.
http://www.breitbart.com/california/2018/06/15/photos-inside-shelter-for-illegal-alien-children-separated-from-parents/

Some 90% of the children at the shelter arrived at the border without adults; the other 10% were separated from the adults accompanying them. Once the children arrive — usually brought by U.S. Border Patrol agents — they are greeted in the “intake” office, where they receive any urgent medical care, are assigned a case worker, and are given food, a shower, and new clothing. They are also given toiletries and lessons in hygiene — literally how to flush a toilet, brush their teeth, and operate the shower, which some of the children may have never seen in their lives.
The children receive six hours of education daily, which include lessons in English and physical education. The boys interact with girls who are housed offsite and brought to the shelter during the day to access its services.
They have limited access to telephones to call relatives, both in the U.S. and abroad. They receive therapy, both as individuals and in group sessions. They enjoy field trips to local museums, parks, and the zoo, where they can explore the city beyond the shelter. And they also have social activities, including a recent “prom” for which they dressed up.

Criminals are separated from their families every day in the United States. Most of those criminals are citizens.
Why should illegal immigrants be any different? Don’t do the crime if you can’t handle the penalty!

Hey, the Bible is against Homosexuality, too.

So what the Left is saying is stone the Homosexuals but don't separate families at the border.

@joshuatrio

The Very Smart People - who also benefit the most from low wages, just a coincidence - in the past 25 years have gone from wanting to control the influx of illegals (which both parties agreed about) to saying that wanting to have any Borders at all is a facet of Nazi Germany.

It's stunning.

Illegal immigrants directly lower wages for the poorest American citizens, harming those poor in addition to imposing costs on the rest of us.

Yes, we get cheaper lettuce because illegals are easily intimidated by the threat of deportation, but do we really want to pit poor US citizens against illegals to see who is willing to suffer more to get the worst-paid jobs in our country?

The left answers with a resounding "fuck the poor, bring on the illegals!"

Yep, it's not like children have been separated from their incarcerated parents (you know, the ones who INTENTIONALLY broke the law), who are LEGAL citizens, in this country.

In 2007, the population of minor children of incarcerated parents consisted of approximately 484,100 white, non-Hispanic children (one in 110 white children), 767,400 black, non-Hispanic children (one in 15 black children), and 362,800 Hispanic children (one in 41 Hispanic children). Black (54 percent) and Hispanic (57
percent) men in state prison were more likely than white men (45 percent) to be parents. The likelihood that women in state prison were parents did not vary by race.
About half of these children were age 9 or younger. Thirty-two percent were between the ages of 10 and 14, and 16 percent were between the ages of 15 and 17.

https://www.ncsl.org/documents/cyf/childrenofincarceratedparents.pdf

Why aren't the Liberals concerned about the LEGAL children affected by separation?

I'm a first generation naturally born US Citizen. All thanks to my Grandma overstaying her Visa. Parents are US Permanent Residents. The color of our skin and level of success we have achieved here would surprise you all. Nobody's calling for us to be sent back to Scandinavia though and people will talk shit about immigration to my face not knowing. Always a good chuckle.

We don't have to separate them, they can go back to Mexico together.

Apples and Kumquats not the same thing at all. The time your grandfolks were overstaying their Visas, Mexicans were crossing the border with impunity.
We've had this murky immigration system that I saw the flaws in it, when I married my wife from Peru. I was horrified that it isn't streamlined and more easy affair than it was. Especially for marrying someone for them to get their papers. In Civics class(it used to be required) they made it out to seem like an easier affair than the money shake down that it really was. We didn't even have anyone come out to the house to interview us and look at our living arrangement to see if it seemed out of place for a married couple. It took 7 years and over $7K in legal fees and filings to make it happen. While Cubans were running ashore and getting automatic citizenship.

If your grandparents tried to skip on their Visa today they might not have as much luck as they had back then. I remember in 1987 I had an Israeli Neighbor who had a friend visit from Israel. His friend got popped within months of him over staying his Visa, the Authorities actually showed to find him. He jumped on a plane and ran home before they could lock him up.

My Brother In Law who was here since 1988 self deported in 2010 because it had gotten to the point where he couldn't get a drivers license to work. He didn't want to be a burden to his Sisters and in laws so he went back to Peru. As it turned out the South American emerging markets were booming during that time. He now owns a very successful Refrigeration and Aircon business in Lima.

Which is a final point, right now there is a global Middle class that makes what's left of the White American Middle Class look like a minority. There's a decent standard of living in most of these countries today for those that want to work. We're not the only game in town anymore. They have jobs back home they could work. But by continually importing them, they are taking my job, and my kids jobs and hijacking America's future.

Talk about chutzpah!

Equating economic migrants (majority of Mexican and Central/South American illegals) to the Jews being massacred in the Holocaust.

lol you have to forgive the left constantly invoking Godwin's law. They don't know better. Everyone who doesn't agree with me is literally Hitler!
16   mell   2018 Jun 18, 1:34pm

I do think though Trump has to tread carefully here for once and I expect some concessions being made soon. Not because it's right but because the people hating their own country have finally found a topic to latch onto that could have staying power. Forget about rapefugees, crime, cheap labor decimating the working class and Kate Steinle. Teh childrenz are being taken from teh parentz!!! Those parents who come for mostly economical reasons using their kids as shields are unfit to be parents in the first place. But hey, I'm all for neighborly Christian love, so have the churches, priests, and congregation members start with good example and each of them house an immigrant family (or next to them) for a while instead of asking others to do so.

Nope, they used to be released to US until hearing of their asylum case by the judge. Most of them simply failed to appear and continued to live in US illegally, just like they intended in the first place. How is this a sane policy?

Then again if Potus, the congress and everyone else were really serious, we would be going after the employers which is the real cause.

So, now we've moved from POTUS separating kids from parents with the illegals, on to talking about going after employers who employ illegals.

Amazing how the Liberals just keep changing the narrative when the initial narrative goes to crap...

It's a good thing employers weren't hiring illegals when Obama was President, and it's become a NEW problem under Trump...

Oh, wait.....
19   MisdemeanorRebel   2018 Jun 18, 2:29pm

It's Hitlerian not to have open borders.

But spying on everybody's communications without a warrant and lying to Congress about it was Patriotic!

Sure, when donkeys get their turn in power they can show us how is it properly done. Make sure you write to them and let them know that you want illegal immigration stopped. For now, we'll take whatever GOP is willing to do. Some action is better than total inaction.

Children shouldn’t be used as a negotiating tool. @realDonaldTrump should end this heartless policy and Congress should get an immigration deal done that provides for asylum reform, border security and a path to citizenship for Dreamers. https://t.co/OOjv0vNeVg— Jeb Bush (@JebBush) June 18, 2018

This was the Establishment's "alternative" to Hillary. What alternative?

The only people who use children as a negotiating tool are their parents. But hey, maybe they can come to a compromise with (more) families staying together maybe for rapid and no-exceptions enforcement of states and cities defying the rule of law by peddling their sanctuary city crap.

I agree here.

Any employer of illegals should get a day in jail (not a fine!) for every day of illegal employment.

But illegals are above all illegally lowering wages for the poorest American citizens. That they are doing this with the complicity of the US Chamber of Commerce does not take away from the fact that they are breaking our laws to make money at the expense of our most vulnerable citizens.

Yep, that argument re going after illegals being wrong until every last employer of illegals was thrown into jail is akin to arguing with a cop (or a judge) that you shouldn't get that speeding ticket because pimps and drug dealers are still running free and commiting "real crimes". Violation is violation and you get what you deserve for what you've done regardless of what somebody else does.
