Early evidence suggests CBD could be useful not just for epilepsy, but a broad spectrum of neurological diseases like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, and some brain cancers. “There are neuroscientists who are drooling to work on this,” said Elizabeth Thiele, director of the pediatric epilepsy program at Massachusetts General Hospital and one of the lead investigators in the GW trials. Once the DEA reschedules Epidiolex, they finally will be able to.

Scientists are drooling to have access to Cannabis so they can cure people

Republicans are demanding that the Children and Veterans suffer for no good reason

Shame on any “Americans” who support these “people”. Republicans are the greatest threat to our freedom and the survival of our country

That's crap. The people who want drugs released faster are the same people who will turn around and crucify the FDA if an approval turns out to have bad effects. I'm far from a fan of the fda but they are truly in a no win situation.

Lol, are you sure about that?

CBD is derived from Cannabis/Hemp, which is Schedule 1 and federally banned.

Did you read the article?

Is there any instance in all of history where CBD had “bad effects”?

Cannabis/Hemp aren’t banned for fear of people suffering harm from consuming/utilizing the plant, in fact the opposite is true: Prohibition exists to harm people. Funny how Republicans crow incessantly about personal responsibility, freedom and the evils of overreaching Government meddling in our lives. Why does that not apply here, or is it just a lie they like to tell themselves shen in fact the opposite is true?

DEA reiterated that CBD is considered an illegal substance—just like other marijuana products.

There's only one hitch: The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has classified all marijuana-extracted cannabinoids, including CBD, as a Schedule I substance, which means the agency finds the compounds to not have any medicinal benefit, despite years of research suggesting otherwise. In order for Epidiolex to even be put on the U.S. market, the DEA would need to reclassify CBD – a process that will take at least 90 days. (This won't affect hemp-derived CBD, which is exempt from the Controlled Substances Act under the Farm Bill.)

How the DEA will reschedule this form of CBD is too early to predict, some experts say. The agency could reclassify plant-derived CBD as a legal pharmaceutical – but not a legal recreational drug – under Schedule II or III, while keeping cannabis a Schedule I drug. Or the DEA could deschedule cannabis entirely – though experts consider that option far less likely. (Dozens of cannabis-related bills are floating around Congress, including several that would decriminalize marijuana, though at this point none of them have the votes to pass

That's not the point. The FDA can't operate on anecdotal. There has to be the same process for everything. Even with a strict process things don't always work out. At which point everyone screams the FDA didn't do enough.

You can buy it in any head shop in South Florida. Even the Pakistore on the corner from my Black musician friend I mention occasionally has 3 rolled CBD joints in a glass vial for $11.99.

That doesn’t change the fact that it’s illegal

That junk has been legal in Netherlands for several decades now. Where are all the wunderdrugs? It's not like Holland doesn't have pharma or prohibits pharma companies from other countries to set up shop there.

Perhaps it is difficult to patent a natural substance without chemically modifying it, and Big Pharma will have 50% profit instead of 10000000% profit.

There’s a handful in the works right now

Why not end Prohibition and allow Americans to rediscover the benefits of the innocent plant and her flowers?

What is the downside?

Anyone that uses drugs, legal or illegal is weak & their DNA needs to be removed from the gene pool.
Damn! There may not be any Republicans left, they all act like they are on drugs.

There is no downside. Everyone can get it when they want it anyway for the most part, and unless it's quantity, most cops don't even care anymore (for the most part). It's about $$$$ as drB6 points out. It will be legal at some point, but the higher ups need to figure out how to profit off it first before laws are changed. Sucks, but it is what it is.

It may seem like change takes a long time, but when you figure we couldn't even fly just over a hundred years ago, it really is rather staggering how quick things can truly change. It's very likely that in 10 years there will be a pot shop in every town in this country just like there's a gas station. Keep fighting the good fight (legalize it) but it just takes time unfortunately.

What does this have to do with weed legalization? They are separate issues that require a separate thought process on how to deal with them. Most republicans I know toke up and have also had family members have abortions (if not themselves). People got to stop it with the right/left shit. Everyone of us here would have a great conversation at an airport bar waiting for a flight. We all know this. Not sure why only X or Y become the only two decisions or thought processes for us. Whatever.

I try like all hell but it’s pretty much futile.

The Rep vs Dem anti-Americans are hell bent on being manipulated. Either they like it or they’re not bright enough to disengage from being used. It’s sad

I repeat: if the junk had the medicinal potential its cheerledears are claming (not the obvious mild painkiller effect, but "cure brain cancer" kinda effect) , why hasn't it been realized in the decades it has been legal in the West? You want your narcotics - knock yourself out, but stop insulting everybody's intelligence by claiming that prohibition in US alone is somehow acting as floodgates holding back yuuuuge breakthroughs in pharmacology, manufacturing, etc. ralated to cannabis plant. If this was the case it would already have shown itself. Because, you know, 1980 was thirty-fucking-eight years ago.
