ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Atlantic City’s newest casinos threw open their doors to gamblers Wednesday — a day earlier than scheduled.

The previously shuttered Hard Rock and the Ocean Resort Casino were supposed to open Thursday, but both received permission Wednesday afternoon from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement to begin full operations, and both immediately started letting gamblers inside.

Both properties still plan elaborate grand openings Thursday.

David Rebuck, director of the gaming enforcement division, said Hard Rock was cleared for full operations as of 3 p.m., and Ocean Resort as of 5:45 p.m. Both wasted little time letting gamblers inside — even as they pleaded for people to come to their scheduled grand openings on Thursday.

“I am holding the certificate in my hand, and I couldn’t be happier,” Bruce Deifik, Ocean Resort’s owner, told The Associated Press.

“We are open for business and everyone is welcome right now,” added Frank Leone, the casino’s CEO.

Hard Rock, in particular, did not want to take away from the impact of its Thursday grand opening, which will include celebrities and a mass guitar smashing on the Boardwalk before noon.

“People are already coming through the doors,” said Todd Moyer, Hard Rock’s senior vice president of marketing. “Our official grand opening is tomorrow and we are still working toward it, but the heavy lifting has been done. I liken it to ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ on cable, where the things they get done in the last few hours are amazing.”

Jim Allen, chairman of Hard Rock International, was walking the casino floor, checking on how things were going. Here and there, ladders were hidden behind plastic sheeting where work was still not quite finished. Work was continuing into the night on a hotel tower, but Allen said that on the whole, “We’re pretty happy with where we are right now.”

We’re headed down now, I’ll report back on if The Revel is any better than the previous iteration

I'm also interested in your review of The Hard Rock, which presumably much better then the Taj Majal. I won't be going to AC for another 3 weeks or so.

I’m excited for Hard Rock.

Would you like a review of my lunch at The White House also?

Don't let Trump get close. They will shut down immediately.
What kind of "Art of the Deal" can't keep a casino open?
How gullible can Republican voters be?

Damn those long hairs & their Rock music, they will destroy America.

Of course. I know that there is supposed to be a White House subs in Hard Rock, but if you go to Hard Rock's website, it isn't even listed (But is listed on White House subs webpage). I'm also curious as to the fate of Burger and Plate restaurants.

The White House was open until 4am.

It was neat to see the North End jumping for once.

Hard Rock was jamming. Packed and loud. Nice to see the Vegas vibe come to Jersey Shore.

I wasn’t a fan of The Revel the first time it opened, and it doesn’t stand a chance against the Hard Rock this time either. Even the name of it sucks. I’m interested in staying in one of the top floor suites facing south there for the view, though. I’m thinking I better act fast, because it won’t stay open long.

I’m not big on fighting crowds so for that reason alone I’d actually prefer to gamble at Ocean Resort Casino over the Hard Rock. I wonder how it will play out, will Hard Rock simply cannibalize part of Borgatas business?

The Sports Book at Borgata is too small, they crammed it in the Horse Racing Simulcast at the back entrance, although that makes it easy to drive right to the door in the back parking lot and run in and out.

Why don't they have an honest name for a casino, like, "Social Security Check Recyclers"?

I am wondering if the indoor connections between Resorts / Hard Rock / ShowBoat are open?

Update: Connection between Resorts and Hard Rock is open.

Supposedly yes, but I'll know for sure in a couple of days, and report back
