Trump administration ditches Obama's guidelines which told colleges to consider applicants' race when trying to increase diversity

Obama administration guidelines told colleges they could consider applicants' race as part of the admissions process

But Trump administration is ditching that rule, claiming it is not in line with the law on affirmative action

Department of Justice is investigating a claim by Asian-American students that Harvard is discriminating against them by limiting admissions

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump plans to revoke guidelines that encourage considering race in the college admissions process as a way of promoting diversity, it was reported Tuesday.

The guidelines, put in place by the administration of President Barack Obama in 2011 and 2016, put forth legal recommendations that Trump officials contend 'mislead schools to believe that legal forms of affirmative action are simpler to achieve than the law allows,' the Journal reported, citing two people familiar with the plans.

Trump administration officials plan to argue the guidelines go beyond what the Supreme Court has decided on the issue, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled universities may use affirmative action to help minority applicants get into college.

Conservatives have said such programs can hurt white people and Asian-Americans.

The Justice Department under Republican President Donald Trump has been investigating a complaint by more than 60 Asian-American organizations that say Harvard University's policies are discriminatory because they limit the acceptance of Asian-Americans.

Or, for historical accuracy, we can say that Republicans, for the second time, are eliminating racial discrimination laws that Democrats put in place and defend.

Affirmative action in action:

https://www.economist.com/briefing/2015/10/03/the-model-minority-is-losing-patience

MICHAEL WANG, a young Californian, came second in his class of 1,002 students; his ACT score was 36, the maximum possible; he sang at Barack Obama’s inauguration; he got third place in a national piano contest; he was in the top 150 of a national maths competition; he was in several national debating-competition finals. But when it came to his university application he faced a serious disappointment for the first time in his glittering career. He was rejected by six of the seven Ivy League colleges to which he applied.

“I saw people less qualified than me get better offers,” says Mr Wang. “At first I was just angry. Then I decided to turn that anger to productive use.” He wrote to the universities concerned. “I asked: what more could I have done to get into your college? Was it based on race, or what was it based on?” He got vague responses—or none. So he complained to the Department of Education. Nothing came of it.

Asians BETTER wake up and go MAGA! They are on the Democrat hit list for being too successful, and none of the minority action groups like them at all. Asians are the most discriminated against group in America. The Lefties discriminate against them openly because they don’t want too many of them. The elite (Democrat) white institutions of law and business and such also discriminate against Asians believing them not cool enough to fit into their frat boy culture.
In politics, many people consider Asians to not be charismatic enough to attract votes.

And yet, they keep working hard and being fairly successful.

They need to stop voting Democrat tho. It’s holding them back.

In the 2014 midterm elections, based on exit polls, 50% of Asian Americans voted Republican, while 49% voted Democrat; this swing towards voting for Republicans was a shift from the strong Democratic vote in 2012, and had not reached 50% since 1996.

In 2017, it was reported by the Washington Post that Asian Americans born outside of the United States trended to be more conservative, and more likely to identify as Republicans, while those who were born in the United States, who were generally younger, were more likely to identify being a Democrat. [brain-washing by media actually works]

From wiki. Makes sense - more stories of discrimination in education like the one above, and Asians will be marching in cohorts supporting our Glorious Golden Golem, as education is extremely important in their culture. Also, R's then should be for all-out immigration of Filipinos and Vietnamese who will vote for them.

Welcome to the club, but in your case, you won't be called racist for trying to right this wrong.

This brilliant child narrowly missed graduating in top 5% of his class and was on the debate team. Result: full ride to 20 ivy level elite colleges.

What's the difference...?

Fuck this. I'm opening up the all Asian university of math, science and computer development. That's right, only asians allowed and all we do churn out geniuses.

Sorry, if discrimination is OK, I choose to positively discriminate. Asians have the highest IQ and my goal is create a genius factory.

Curious name when you think about it: Affirmative Action is Negative Action for everyone else.
Living mostly with Asians I also thought, "use of “soft skills” such as “likeability” and “helpfulness” to determine acceptance, which are thought to disadvantage Asian-American students" strikes me as racist and patronizing by people who fail to understand that remaining composed and modest, are important "soft skills" in many Asian cultures. Quite competence is more admired than brash self-promotion.

yeah, ive thought of moving to Japan specifically to be around these cultural traits. The asians have yet to go PC insane like the idiot white westerners. It would feel great to be in a culture that actually respects itself.

They are wrong by saying:

"having the federal government weaken its position on it will discourage the lawful use of race to achieve diversity which will mean that our college and university campuses will become whiter and less diverse.”

The college campuses will be come much more "yellow" than white if AA is abolished. Look at Caltech which is 40+ percent Asian. But of course purveyors of PC can not say that, as it would decrease the evilness of Fucking White Males who live to discriminate PoC, womyn, and transgendered.

“likeability” and “helpfulness”

This is also "college administration speak" - they try to justify their racism and lie in process. Asians are VERY helpful, and in fact they are more likeable than others because most first- and second generation Asian immigrants are very respectful and polite.

Japanese are not extremely accepting of foreigners by my experience, but China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore are. Do not know about Korea.

I also enjoy my travels in Asia a lot, since I do not see Western PC idiocy there. If I would live there, I would probably find something to be irritated about as well.

Japanese think white people look better with heads removed by sharp swords. It's an endearing cultural trait.

I would also include that this is the most brazen example of shamelessly blaming the victim by Affirmative Action Racists to excuse their bad behavior discriminating against Asians and to provide cover for their thinly veiled quotas limiting the number of Asians in Admissions.

I'm ok w being an outsider. Show respect for a culture and you will be accepted by enough of them. I'm a bit of a loner anyways, dont attach myself to groups.

I'd be happy as a respectful immigrant in a culture that values itself rather than in a culture actively trying to punish itself for success. Itd be very refreshing
23   georgeliberte   2018 Jul 5, 11:57am

Well, is seems racist that college admissions officers believe that Asians are not “likeable” or “helpful”. Just how important are these traits for college admissions and why? These are about as vague of criteria you could possibly come up with. How is it measured? What makes POC (other than Asians) so “likeable” or “helpful”. Anti-Asian racism?
Lastly why are qualities such as reliability, competence, and completion of one's duties not on the list? Perhaps Asians would score to high on these and non-Asian POC not so well. Personally I find most Asians I deal with to be both “likeable” and “helpful” in bot the US and Asia.
24   anonymous   2018 Jul 5, 1:13pm

I agree that colleges should look at personality traits as a part of the diversity they want to enable on their campuses, but don't tie it to race...ever.

The article I referenced in the Atlantic states, A recent court filing in the case against Harvard has somewhat unmasked at least part of the calculus of that institution, including its use of “soft skills” such as “likeability” and “helpfulness” to determine acceptance, which are thought to disadvantage Asian-American students.
So, yes it happens and is documented in court against Harvard at least. Why else use such fuzzy subjective criteria. I mean seriously what is an objective standard of "likeability” and “helpfulness." One person's “helpfulness" is another's intrusiveness; and con artist exude "likeability." To use the tired old cliché, but Hitler was reportedly likeable.
