She had gone into the petrol station's convenience store when an employee alerted her that a man was entering her SUV.

She told local media she jumped into the back seat and told the man - later identified by police as 36-year-old Ricky Wright - to stop driving.

After he refused, she reached into the glove compartment to retrieve a handgun, and fired one shot at his face.

"I proceeded to jump in my backseat and told the gentleman to stop, to get out the car", she told KDFW-News. "He would not get out of the car."

"He turned around and looked at me. I reached over the arm rest to get to my glove compartment and that's when I fired at him."

She added: "I should have just emptied the whole clip but I didn't.

"I hope that woke him up."

Police say the man then crashed the car into a lamp pole. He was arrested and taken to hospital.

Police say the woman was questioned at the scene and released.

She is unlikely to face any charges, authorities add.

I disagree with only one thing. She shouldn't have unloaded the whole clip into him. Better he lives, and spends the rest of his existence with a face disfigured by a GSW received during commission of a felony. Edit to clarify: She shot him once, but WISHED she had unloaded the entire clip.

This is very typical TX evening local news story. I'd say that may be 3-4 times a week I hear about homeowners shooting intruders, or shop owners shooting intruders, or carjacking victims shooting criminals. A few other stories for your enjoyment:

HOUSTON, Texas
Authorities say a security guard opened fire on a group of men who attacked him after they refused to leave the basketball court at an apartment complex in southwest Houston. In the incident this time, the guard went up to the group and told them to leave. Witnesses say that's when the men beat him. The guard allegedly pulled out his gun and fired. One of the men was shot. He's recovering in the hospital from a graze wound. At this time, no charges have been filed against the guard or the group.

In early hours of July 4, two guys cut the chain that locks the fireworks stand. The 17-year-old clerk was asleep inside, guarding the thousands of dollars of fireworks.
The clerk shot one of the robbers. He survived. Deputies say the two robbers were arrested. Investigators do not think they were connected to the six robberies that happened on July 5.

According to officers, the Nissan drove by the man's yard and the men started to shoot at the man. The man standing in his yard, who has a concealed handgun license, shot back at the car hit all three men in the vehicle. Houston police said the Nissan crashed into another vehicle. Police said three of the men got out the Nissan and continued to exchange gunfire with the homeowner. Police said the homeowner struck all three men. Officials said one man died at the scene and a second man was taken to Memorial Hermann Northwest, where he was pronounced dead. The third man was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries. The man who was standing in his yard was uninjured.

DALLAS, Texas.
Do not attempt to break into homes in Lake Highlands. For the second time this year, a homeowner pulled out a firearm to protect their property from suspected robbers, leaving the intruder in need of a hospital. The man at the door said he was at the wrong house, apologized and started to walk away. But the intruder soon returned, kicking in the door and making his way inside. That’s when the homeowner responded with gunfire, shooting around six shots at the man. Police found the suspect critically wounded in the street. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. Police have not yet released his name or what charges he could face.

A homeowner wounded an intruder Monday night after they traded gunfire in east Oak Cliff, Dallas police said. Officers were called around 11:30 p.m. to a home in the 4700 block of Denley Drive, where they found the suspect shot. According to police, a homeowner was confronted by someone who shot at him while he was still in his vehicle. The shot missed, and the homeowner then produced his own handgun and fired back, hitting the intruder. The homeowner then backed out into the street and called 911, police said. The suspect was taken to Baylor University Medical Center in critical condition. The homeowner was not injured, police said.

El Paso, Texas
The incident began when the man allegedly was trying to break into the house and the homeowner came outside. The alleged intruder then picked up what police described as a weapon and charged at the resident, who retreated inside, police said. The intruder then forced his way inside and charged at the homeowner a second time, police said.
The homeowner got a handgun and shot the man, who fled, police said. Patrol officers found the wounded man nearby. He was taken to University Medical Center of El Paso for treatment, police said. The man will be charged with burglary of habitation and booked into jail once he is released from the hospital, officials said.

San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio police say one man is dead following an attempted home burglary in a Northwest suburb Friday afternoon. Officers responded to Marble Creek Drive, near Leon Valley, around 2:40 p.m. to a shooting in progress where they found a man had been shot by a homeowner, police say. Police say homeowner heard the "burglary suspect" banging on his windows attempting to enter the home. When he confronted the suspect, police say homeowner began to fear for his life and shot the man.

Why, so he can do it again with a disfigured face? This wasn't his first felony, here is a previous mug shot:

...."Wright has been charged with two counts of Unlawful Restraint and Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle.

Court records show he has been arrested more than 20 times on a variety of charges — including unauthorized use of a vehicle, possession of marijuana, evading arrest, assault and theft."

....."Booker-Hicks said she only meant to fire a warning shot but almost wishes she would have emptied the whole clip.

“I’m not a killer or anything, but I do believe in defending what’s mine,” she said. “I hope that woke him up.”

Wright is charged with two counts of unlawful restraint and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Court records show he has a long list of charges including assault and family violence, arson, theft, making a terroristic threat, resisting arrest, and drug charges. Police say he’s in serious but stable condition."

She should have emptied the whole clip into him! Repeat felons ONLY understand violence and don't care about laws.

20 arrests and he is still walking free to commit more crimes? Does anyone in their right minds think he will not commit anymore crimes? This is fucking insane. No wonder we have such a high crime rate, we are the land where criminals walk free.

Also, police and local municipality should give her a medal for acting bravely.

I'm just wondering why the Democrats aren't blaming the gun again in this case, and yelling for "common sense gun laws". It's always the gun's fault (not the repeat criminal) in the eyes of the Liberals.

He's a sociopath--he can't/won't learn from incarceration, it's just the way he always will be until he kills someone and either gets life or the death sentence.

Don't get me wrong, I would be perfectly happy if she had shot the criminal to death that day. I was imagining a worse fate, wherein he is too disfigured to live any kind of normal life, or carry out any ambitions loftier than finishing his sippy cup of generic "Ensure": poor substitute, particularly including any criminal ambitions.

Threats like him should have been removed from general society before it comes to this.

He should be removed from society, except Democrats need voters, so he'll get probation, get felon voting rights, and it'll be like he dindu nuffin.

If only the judge had the authority to order "Shot while carjacking 3 children" tattooed across his forehead or next best remaining blank facial canvas.

This "Democrats need voters so ___________" trope is so tiresome and doesn't belong outside of right wing echo chambers, UNTIL AND UNLESS you can bring clear objective proof that this is happening on a statistically significant scale.

I live and work in a blue collar suburb of Los Angeles. I have become very familiar with the various outlier demographics of the area- homeless, immigrants from unassimilated illegal to fourth generation legal families, felons, gangbangers, section-8 and project dwellers.

You know who you see attending the polling place in this precinct, election after election over three decades I've been observing? Retirees, blue collar workers often in their work uniforms, and middle class housewife types.

You know who you NEVER see during all of those decades? Homeless, unassimilated illegal immigrants, felons, gangbangers, section-8 and project dwellers, busloads of black people, or people bypassing the rigorous and strictly followed two-person, two-list authentication system before being handed a ballot. Assimilated and legal Latino families tend to be conservative and family oriented, and are perfectly willing to vote for Republicans on policy and values when they're not blatantly pandering to the diminishing white demographic.

that is my observation also. Often they are more conservative than whites socially.

While it's true that black criminals deliberately target whites out of pure racism, black criminals also prey on innocent black people because it is convenient.

God bless this mother who fought back.

Which Republican policy blatantly panders to the "diminishing" (lolz) white demographic.

Perhaps you meant the democrats who are blatantly vilifying whites, as you are displaying here.
