I am getting sick of sitting on a desk for 9 hrs a day. Why does my car get more space to park in office than I do?

Back in the day when I started working as a newly minted software engineer, I had an walled office with proper ceiling and full door. Few years later, as I gained more experience they moved me to a large 8x8 cube, then came the smaller cube, and now after almost two decades of hacking code, I have a 4x3 desk.

While as a human, I get less and less space to pass 9 hrs a day, my car continues to get the same amount of space over last twenty+ years.

WHY?

I hate desks. At home I have a articulated Keyboard Arm and a Monitor Arm attached to a Pro Audio speaker stand.

At work I finally got an office. But I have to share with someone else, there's another desk in the room just in case we get another developer. IT now uses that desk to store and state new Monitors and other various hardware from Amazon.

If it makes you feel any better, it's a 4 by 3 dinky desk as well. I hate it.

But hey I have a window. They made a big todo about me having to make sure I close the roller shade every day before I leave. So I just leave it closed. I don't want to forget to roll it down. Besides it is sheer and I can still see through it, if there's a reason to roll it up. I'll see it.

Still it doesn't stop people from the floor walking in my office bitching how my office is the only ground level window in any office in the whole building. Why don't I open it?

Park your car in your cubicle and set up your parking space for work?

I don’t have a cubicle, I have a desk which is probably 8 times smaller than the car. But yeah, if they let me, I would be happy to convert the parking space that my car has the luxary of enjoying into an office at my own cost.

I find it completely rediculous that peoples cars get more space than people themselves.

Some of the newly constructed townhouses are getting there as well - little more than prison cells

Our desks should be on one of those pull along Hotdog carts. We pull in work get out and go around to the back of your car and start taking calls.

It sounds like it's time to find a new job. Life is too short to compromise like that.

When I was working, this is similar to what my office looked like, and I considered it a little small.

That only happens if you allow it and don't push back. I'd be careful, they might give you a kennel next.

That looks something like the office that the university gave me during my senior year in college when I was head honcho at one of the student government orgs except that I had a wider window which looked down upon the main walkway to the library. After that things went steadily downhill when I got an office during my first job (bu without a window) and then a series of cubes which decreased in size, and now a 4x3 desk.

I wouldn't be surprised. My bad luck is quite good to put it positively.

What's more important? A big office, or a secretary with big boobs?

If you want as much space as a car gets you'll have to eat more.

Just when I thought I had reached my lowest point with respect to square inches of seating space I get at work, things just went downhill again. My company changed offices and now I have an even smaller desk and people are more closely packed together in the seating area. I barely have space for my monitor, laptop, and keyboard on the desk. The chairs are a bit smaller as well. The meeting rooms are also smaller and have chairs that are somewhat bigger than kid sized chairs, yet smaller than an adult chair. I am planning to leave the company in six months due to various reasons including congested workspace. Hopefully my next company will provide a slightly bigger workspace. I also don't get parking spot at the company building now. I have to park half a mile away in a parking lot.
