It's all good, though, it's just a natural cycle. Nothing to do with extremifying drought conditions brought on by human-accelerated climate change. Nothing to worry about here. Move on.

Yes, the smoke is pretty bad at times. It's more of a problem in the Central Valley, but even San Francisco gets quite a bit of it. Can't be good to be breathing that for weeks on end.

I lived in NorCal for many, many years, and never once remember smoke in the air at all, much less like this. The first time I experienced it was when I went to SoCal for five years, and then, only once bad and one other time light.

Grew up in Santa Barbara. Lived thru many fires. Worst one was the Painted Cave fire about 26, maybe 27 years ago? 800+ homes incinerated in one night.

85% of all California wildfires are set by humans, usually intentionally (70%). The rest are usually accidental like a power line toppling and starting a fire or a rare lightning strike. Global warming hasn’t been listed as a single cause for a fire.

Somewhat unbiased reporting from both liberal and conservative rags cite three causes:

1. Folks populating areas closer to forests due to cheaper RE. (Thanks, Fed!)

2. Fire control policies which limit nature's way of clearing deadwood and brush through smaller fires.

3. Climate change.

Come on its the CHP just throwing road flares all over the place, they have nothing better to do.

Most of California’s landscape is supposed to burn, it’s how a lot of the plants have evolved reproduce. At one point we use to just let the fires burn from the mountains all the way down to the ocean but now there are houses everywhere and we have about a century’s worth of fuel built up. Now when there is a fire it’s so hot that plants seeds are destroyed and land is left bare. Sprawl is the problem with our fires not climate change.

The air quality in SF has actually been stellar despite the fires. Hardly any smoke due to lots of wind. Also the biggest contiguous chunk of pollution comes from China.
