The USGS defines any earthquake of at least magnitude 4.5 as “significant”, and there were 53 earthquakes that met that criteria along the Ring of Fire on Sunday alone.

The entire west coast of the U.S. falls along the “Ring of Fire”, and experts assure us that it is only a matter of time before the seismic tension that is building up along the tectonic plates in that area is released.

It certainly is not unusual to see earthquakes happen along the Ring of Fire, but what was unusual about the activity on Sunday was the size of the earthquakes.

The largest quake on Sunday was a massive magnitude 8.2 earthquake that could have done an enormous amount of damage if it had been closer to the surface…

And I am definitely not the only one saying this. According to one British news source, scientists are warning that “increased seismic activity” along the Ring of Fire “may mean the so-called ‘Big One’ killer earthquake is on the way”…

Scientists warn increased seismic activity in the area may mean the so-called “Big One” killer earthquake is on the way.

If California was hit, experts warn tens of thousands could be killed.

Because there has not been a major seismic event on the west coast for decades, many people have grown complacent. They simply assume that because nothing has happened in such a long time that nothing will happen for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately, the experts assure us that the “Big One” is definitely coming to the west coast at some point, and all of this seismic activity may be an indication that it is coming sooner rather than later.

So what was the point of this article? There’s going to be a massive quake on the West coast at some point no matter what. This article is pure clickbait.

+1 Useless w/o timeframe.

And I would sell everything I have and head East. Arizona ocean front is still a bargain.

So, what are you saying, that 53 major earthquakes in one day, is just a normal day?
6   BayArea   2018 Aug 20, 11:26pm

For 30yrs I’ve heard about how the big one is coming. You’ll be right one day ?

Never said it was a normal day. In the grand scheme of time, and recording these events, we have zero idea if this was normal or not. Neither do scientist that have the equivalent time wise of one grain of sand on a 7 mile beach researching this stuff.

We could be in a quiet time for earthquake activity and this was a normal occurrence on a 200 year time frame. In 2,000 years there might be a day with 400 earthquakes around the world and there's a 9 magnitude in CA.

The earth doesn't operate on our day to day schedule. The article was pure clickbait and it was obvious. The "big" one is theoretically always coming. Earthquakes won't be predictable in your lifetime or mine. So anyone writing on predicting or postulating that it's coming soon, should be seen as a simple moron. A broken clock is right 2 times a day. At some point someone will hit the jackpot guessing on the "big" one. The reality probably is that we don't even know what a REAL "big" one truly is.

This is from Zerohedge, which has degenerated into doom porn site. We will all die tomorrow! Earthquake, giant tsunami, meteor strike, and Yellowstone eruption will kill all life on Earth UNLESS you change your dollars into rubles, gold, yams, or Bitcoin! World trade is collapsing! Lets all jerk off to a topless picture of infallible Putin! Iran has a new fighter jet (does not matter that it is a copy of 40+ year old American F-5)!

They have lost all credibility they ever had with the sensationalist crap they have started publishing.

So, does that mean these earthquakes never happened? What's a normal day total?
10   Bd6r   2018 Aug 21, 8:36am

I don't think that it is anything much out of the usual, given the size of Ring of Fire (I am no geoscientist, but I recall that >75% of world's earthquakes occur there).

A few other choice doom porn headlines (not from Zerohedge) with dates - we all should have been dead by now:

Experts speak out over mega-tremor fears after repeated earthquakes rattles ‘ring of fire’ - Feb 2018
Is the Ring of Fire becoming more active? Recent eruptions prompt calls for better building standards and evacuation plans in Southeast Asia - Apr 2018
The Really Big One An earthquake will destroy a sizable portion of the coastal Northwest. The question is when. - July 2015
The Giant, Underestimated Earthquake Threat to North America - 2012

etc etc etc

To get readership, "journalists" need to trot out doom porn.
Edit: I have been reading for years on Zerohedge that Yellowstone will blow up tomorrow because of unusual swarm of earthquakes, or more geyser eruptions.
More edit: this is amusing and informative - https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/byregion/

When it's raining buffalos from Yellowstone in SF Bay Area, I'll start to worry.
12   Shaman   2018 Aug 21, 10:45am

I’ve experienced a 6.7 earthquake in California. Practically no damage was done. Strict building codes make for much enhanced resiliency when the ground shakes. We don’t like in mud huts like Haitians.

I’m gonna give this article an emphatic “meh!”

It might be anomalous, or it might be normal, but this is not the problem with the article. It's the jump to "Big EQ in CA is coming!". There is no basis under this prediction. If anything, the activity elsewhere on the Ring of Fire might release the tension on the faults running through CA.

Nobody knows nothing.

This is what I was getting at. Those three words, nobody knows nothing. You're spot on.

The fact is, like everything modern humans touch, the internet has become nothing but an advertisement to sell something/anything. If Zerohedge can make money doing, I suppose that's good for them. Unfortunately, too many idiots get click baited on a daily basis with some of the dumbest shit anyone could think up.

Guess what, you heard it here first. April 20th, 2019, there will be a tornado in Effingham, IL. Now I just need to "sell" that to the sheep.

I don't care who the author was. Who the source was. What outfit posted it. It's garbage and that point hasn't been addressed. EARTHQUAKES CAN'T BE PREDICTED! If you agree earthquakes can't be predicted, then I'm not sure the reason for the post. If you think earthquakes can be predicted, let us all know how, cause you're a billionaire for having those facts. Imagine how you could manipulate the insurance markets?

MrMagic says

Thanks for not addressing the point that EARTHQUAKES CAN'T BE PREDICTED! Anytime you can let us know the point of this article, feel free to let us all know. I challenged the article, not you, and you get all testy and ad hom.

So sad...

....Small 'Foreshock' Rumbles May Precede Big Quakes. Bursts of energy rocked the earth in the hour right before an earthquake devastated Turkey in 1999 a new finding that might one day help researchers predict major quakes. Many large earthquakes are preceded by smaller rumbles known as foreshocks.

20   WookieMan   2018 Aug 21, 2:45pm

All these other quakes were also not in CA in your OP, so not sure how this is relevant either. This Turkey example involved "foreshocks" IN Turkey. Not LA

So we finally get to the bottom line. It's clickbait, which was my point all along. The "big one KILLER earthquake" MAY come at some point down the road.

You can't predict it and the way it's worded is complete and utter garbage journalism if you even want to call it that. Again, I don't care what site it's on or who wrote it. If you think it's good information you're going to need to do more then quote the same garbage article. If you think it's "good" info, then have at it, I won't comment anymore on this.

They're getting closer..............

Magnitude 6.3 offshore quake hits west of Oregon: USGS

An offshore earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 hit 302 km (188 miles) west of Bandon, Oregon, on Wednesday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said. The quake was recorded at a depth of about 10 km, according to the USGS website.

The shake followed an intense week of seismic activity in which the deadly Ring of Fire was rocked by 70 quakes in just 48 hours.

A cluster of 16 "significant" movements, all above magnitude 4.5, hit on Monday following 53 that shook the region along the disaster zone on Sunday.

Update: 6.9 earthquake rocks Trinidad

A 6.9 earthquake rocked Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday evening.

The magnitude, originally reported as 6.8, has since been reviewed by a seismologist and revised.

Meanwhile, initial reports say several buildings and property have sustained damage.

Tonight, small earthquake in Orange County. It was a definite meh sort of shaker. One good bump and some shimmying. 4.4 centered near Pomona.

I'm telling ya, melting ice is adding to the volume of water in the ocean where it builds up pressure in the depts. The more watter added the more it rips the ocean floor.
In the Atlantic it created the rift where it is pushing the continents apart, in the Pacific much larger ocean, it is ripping the ocean at the rim stretching it out further.
Ripping the ocean floor and pushing water into the earth.

But it will never EVER Collect on the Ocean surface and flood Florida, that's just a Liberal stupid retarded fantasy.

Melting ice causes earthquakes not sea level rises.
Melting ice is causing ancient lake beds to spring back to life all over the world, once dead river beds are flowing again.

Ft. Jefferson looks the same way it did in 1890 when it was decommissioned as it does now. Not an inch of water over the tiny puny coast line.

Watch Out California! 53 Major Earthquakes Just Hit The Ring Of Fire In A 24 Hour Period

Authored by Michael Snyder via The Economic Collapse blog Great a source that makes infowars look sane.

There are always earthquakes on the rim of fire. Fiji is 6000 miles away from CA. Earthquakes are a local phenomena. The entire 50 milliion sq mile plate ins't moving all at once, just a little section at a time. The only worry in CA from this earthquake event is Tsuanmi.

The big one is always coming to CA. or any other place in the rim of fire.

Because it's ripping the bottom out of the ocean? Yep, that extra 6 inches of water makes all the difference in 2 miles of ocean depth. It will tear right through 150 miles of rock of the north american plate like a candy wrapper. ROFLOL.
