From just after the election, and more relevant than ever.

http://blog.dilbert.com/2016/11/12/the-cognitive-dissonance-cluster-bomb/

Earlier this week CNN.com listed 24 different theories that pundits have provided for why Trump won. And the list isn’t even complete. I’ve heard other explanations as well. What does it tell you when there are 24 different explanations for a thing?

It tells you that someone just dropped a cognitive dissonance cluster bomb on the public. Heads exploded. Cognitive dissonance set in. Weird theories came out. This is the cleanest and clearest example of cognitive dissonance you will ever see. Remember it.

This phenomenon is why a year ago I told you I was putting so much emphasis on PREDICTING the outcome of the election using the Master Persuader Filter. I told you it would be easy to fit any theory to the facts AFTER the result. And sure enough, we can fit lots of theories to the facts. At least 24 of them by CNN’s count.

Generally speaking, the greater the persuasion, the more cognitive dissonance you get. Trump is – in my opinion – the greatest persuader of my lifetime. I expected this level of cognitive dissonance. Next time you see a persuader of this magnitude, you can expect the outcome to be cognitive dissonance in that case too.

This brings me to the anti-Trump protests. The protesters look as though they are protesting Trump, but they are not. They are locked in an imaginary world and battling their own hallucinations of the future. Here’s the setup that triggered them.

1. They believe they are smart and well-informed.

2. Their good judgement told them Trump is OBVIOUSLY the next Hitler, or something similarly bad.

3. Half of the voters of the United States – including a lot of smart people – voted Trump into office anyway.

Those “facts” can’t be reconciled in the minds of the anti-Trumpers. Mentally, something has to give. That’s where cognitive dissonance comes in.

There are two ways for an anti-Trumper to interpret that reality. One option is to accept that if half the public doesn’t see Trump as a dangerous monster, perhaps he isn’t. But that would conflict with a person’s self-image as being smart and well-informed in the first place. When you violate a person’s self-image, it triggers cognitive dissonance to explain-away the discrepancy.

So how do you explain-away Trump’s election if you think you are smart and you think you are well-informed and you think Trump is OBVIOUSLY a monster?

You solve for that incongruity by hallucinating – literally – that Trump supporters KNOW Trump is a monster and they PREFER the monster. In this hallucination, the KKK is not a nutty fringe group but rather a symbol of how all Trump supporters must feel. (They don’t. Not even close.)

In a rational world it would be obvious that Trump supporters include lots of brilliant and well-informed people. That fact – as obvious as it would seem – is invisible to the folks who can’t even imagine a world in which their powers of perception could be so wrong. To reconcile their world, they have to imagine all Trump supporters as defective in some moral or cognitive way, or both.

As I often tell you, we all live in our own movies inside our heads. Humans did not evolve with the capability to understand their reality because it was not important to survival. Any illusion that keeps us alive long enough to procreate is good enough.

That’s why the protestors live in a movie in which they are fighting against a monster called Trump and you live in a movie where you got the president you wanted for the changes you prefer. Same planet, different realities.

Donald Trump did not win in a vacuum; he ran against the worst candidate the Democratic party could have ever produced.

1. Hillary was so obviously corrupt and so obviously annoying to many people. She was also inept; she didn't even campaign in some midwest states.
2. Elections have lately had a pattern that alternates between parties. Since the Democrat party president was the last president for two terms, it's likely a Republican would be favored in the next election.
3. People tend to vote their wallets; the recipients of benefits tend to vote for the Democrat, others for the Republican. Outside of the large cities where benefits flow freely, voters thought the Republican would improve their wallets.
4. One candidate understood the voters, the other did not. What is really on most people's minds? Is it A. Transgender bathroom rights in elementary schools? B. Jobs?

I know some people who were not normal Republican voters who voted for Donald Trump a couple of years ago. They're not racists and they're not white.

I tell you I thought Democrats lost the moment Obama opened his mouth and started talking about this being a main issue of the election. I thought Dems lost their minds, they apparently did.

Why are so many people out in trumpland obsessed with CNN and spend 24/7 essentially giving CNN free advertising? Every conservative outlet is all CNN all the time. You guys have managed to drive CNN into the cable top 10 for the first time since it was started. Nice work.

Source? February '18 in todays media world was a lifetime ago. I personally don't care one way or the other. I just don't understand what is so funny given the graphic is dated and there's no source.

The text for the network column is massively sketchy as well. #7 & #9. We need something linked. Actual sources. This looks like a 4th graders Excel homework.

Oh so cute. It's like a kitten. You found a week they were down or at least someone says they were down. Number 8 to 13 are a whole 2% apart. OMG that must mean CNN is going out of business. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. CNN was in the top 10 for most of 2017 and a good part of 2018. They have doubled their viewers since 2015 thanks to all CNN all the time on every conservative outlet. Keep up the freebee advertising for CNN, I'm sure they appreciate it. ROfLOL.

Nueces county TX: Hispanic 228,989, white 107,843, black 14,143. Vote in 2016: Trump 49%, Clinton 47%
Cameron county TX: Hispanic 90%, white 9%. Clinton 65%, Trump 32%.

"only KKK white supremacists voted for Trump" - another mass delusion.

Well this is of course the absolute idiocy of the left. Thinking that Latino voters are a monolithic block is racist Democrat folly.

I've been saying this for months.

200+ counties FLIPPED from Obama to Trump in 2016.

So all of a sudden, these people became "white supremacist"? Leftists are fucking retarded.
10   RC2006   2018 Aug 28, 9:00am

I love that list everything but the reality, Hillary Clinton was the worst candidate possible and she was chosen to be the candidate before there was even a race.

I've never understood this. KKK & white supremacists are a fraction of 1% in the grand scheme of things. Same thing with gays (well they're actually higher, but it's tiny) tranny's, etc. I don't want to throw these people by the wayside (well kkk & suprematist can go) but the focus on the micro minority in this country is staggering.

We've got entire sections of cities that are essentially war zones and we're focusing on the 400 racist guys in southern Indiana out of close to 400M people? Or if someone didn't get their cake baked? An abortion when most women will just end up giving birth? It's like, oh, she dumped that baby, everyone's doing it. It's hip. Lol.

Negativity sells and unfortunately, people that were once positive, have now become tainted. Media and social networks are the culprits. This is why I very rarely trust a source anymore. It's all for money. Negativity sells and it's obvious.

Just saw on libertarianism.org - a leftoid outlet despite its name - "Jordan Peterson is a conservative". Ok one more step from literally being Hitler. Never go full retard.

She was probably the only candidate in Universe that would lose to Trump. Which shows yet once more how delusional Washington insiders are. They live in their alternate universe.
14   Ceffer   2018 Aug 28, 9:18am

TDS is so rampant in Santa Cruz, that you can be talking about almost anything else BUT politics, and it is perfectly acceptable to start a spontaneous, free form fuming and gasping and saying "That Trump!" (grind teeth, clench fists, grimace) for a moment or two, before regaining composure and going back to the conversation at hand.

These epileptic TDS eruptions can occur as often as every ten minutes or so. They will often elicit a hug or two for the sufferer.

This shows how effective saturation fake news is.

Tell them that you are all geared up to vote for Trump in 2020, but call ambulance beforehand - they may get a stroke.

They are the ultimate swing voters, at least in TX where they voted for Bush Jr and for current Governor Abbott who is very conservative.

Clearly that was wrong...

Then you back up the nonsensical statement with this to support it:

You post an article about ratings from 2017? Wasn't 2017 LAST year?

Really? More calendar issues, just like thinking May 2017 came before July 2016. Strange.

Wow, you can't make this crap up.

CNN is at 10 right now for prime time cable audience, and number 7 for over all daily viewers.
This trend is much greater than previous numbers, I think for two reasons.
First that's just how diluted Cable has become, as more Conservatives are repulsed by the growing Media and Celebrity horde viciously calling for our skins. They are cutting the cord. So Cable networks is becoming an echo chamber of Liberal irk and ire. Their audience a perturbed conscientious victim , blaming Trump because their party has not given them any tools to function in a typical great society with upward mobility economic growth. They are angry and they despise those of us who can make sense of Trump's tax break.

The second reason is, they are wanting to see CNN's take on the Mueller investigation as they believe "They done got him NOW!" and they want to witness the time in History Trump walking out of the Oval office in Golden Handcuffs.

We don't even have cable anymore. Why pay for what antenna gets for free.
And certainly don't watch CNN, it's not news, just flat out TDS propaganda. We just read news online, sad how hard it is to find unbiased sources that are not owned by a few extreme groups. Someone needs to break up those news monopolies.

But, but, but that can't be true. Mrmyleftnut says it's not true. He is never wrong. After all he found a one week out of 2 years where it's not true. So there Nay nay nay.

CNN doubled their viewers in 2 years. keep up the non stop CNN says stupidity another 2 years and they will be number 1. .

AntiOcasioCortez says
Nickelodeon has a higher audience than CNN. And what they air is more grounded in reality, too.

This matters how exactly?
