Which was known.

But the highly skilled elite members of the National Media covering the Texas Race "Missed" the fine details, instead the story was broke by the Houston Chronicle reviewing the police report.

The circumstances are bizarre: It's not the typical "19 year old is stopped and blows a .08" garden variety DWI.

His was 26 years old, his BAC was an enormous .134, he smashed into a truck, and witnesses say he tried to flee the scene. Indeed, one witness moved his car in front of O'Rourke's to stop him from pulling away.

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/politics/texas/article/Police-reports-detail-Beto-O-Rourke-s-1998-13195088.php

And yet despite his age, he got a mere diversionary program and no further punishment. O'Rourke's dad was an El Paso County judge.

So our elite national media Ivy League Superspecial Smart Reporters covering this big race, none of them "thought" to review the Police Report of the DUI.

I guarantee you in Ted Cruz had a DUI, the National Media Outlets would have hunted down every last record and poured over it with a fine tooth comb, and even if it was an ordinary, one-time violation with no accident involved, would have gone door-to-door to interview any and all listed witnesses, LEOs, Prosecutors, etc.

Does this really matter though or are we simply pointing out the biased media?

I never had a DUI or wrecked my ride, but I certainly could have given the mistakes I've made.

If you're not doing lines of coke on the dashboard, while taking hits from the nitrous tank in the back seat, YOU'LL NEVER BE PRESIDENT!

Apparently neither did any of the conservative media or the opposition research team. Oh wait that's different, only the elite Ivy League liberal media fuckups that count. ROFLOL.

I do not care if he was once caught drunk driving or not, the problem here is his DADDY! interfering with justice. Catch a poor Hispanic/redneck/black guy in TX and after DWI followed by a police beating they will be in jail for 6 months and without a drivers license for a year. Catch Peoples Candidate O'Rourke and he gets off basically free, because of White Privilege or more likely influential daddy greasing the correct wheels of TEXAS! JUSTICE!

About this DWI coming out only now, I'd say that it benefits Cruz as voters might remember it during election. If it came out a year ago, i would have been old news by now. My best guess is that this news was fed to Houston Chronicle by Cruz campaign at the time when it best suits them.

Also, for those who do not live in TX, the worst mud-slinging and back-stabbing comes during Republican primaries, as D's do not have much chance of getting elected here other than in a few specialized enclaves.

So what, in my state OWI/DWI is practically a right to passage into adulthood.

Par for the course, go to a drunk driving class, sit out a waiting period, and get your license back. I don't see anything out of the ordinary here.

And, jeez, who the hell blows a .08, that's only a couple of alcoholic drinks.

Hit & Run ticket although can be costly, can be intrinsically cheaper than the long term costs of an OWI.

I'm not trying to stick up for the guy, don't pay attention to politics and all that anymore, to much b.s. hogwash, just go vote for least corrupt available on the ticket.

this is TX, "least corrupted" does not exist

Just the biased media - particularly the fact that the national level journalists assigned to this story didn't do rudimentary things, yet think they are the Gods of Journalism. Or, have their interns do these rudimentary things, more like.

Oh, but the local media sure did. Y'know, the ones that aren't the brilliant Georgetown Graduates from Scarsdale, NY.

The Houston Chronicle isn't exactly a backwoods 10 page rag, it really is MSM in print and on the web. But since a few are whining again like little girls - yet - still - here is another Beto story that is from the MSM

REUTERS EXCLUSIVE

Beto O’Rourke’s secret membership in America’s oldest hacking group. One thing you might not know about Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke? He was an early member of one of the best-known computer hacking groups in U.S. history: the 'Cult of the Dead Cow.'

Some things you might know about Beto O’Rourke, the former Texas congressman who just entered the race for president:

• The Democratic contender raised a record amount for a U.S. Senate race in 2018 and almost beat the incumbent in a Republican stronghold, without hiding his support for gun control and Black Lives Matter protests on the football field.

• When he was younger, he was arrested on drunk-driving charges and played in a punk band. Now 46, he still skateboards.

• The charismatic politician with the Kennedy smile is liberal on some issues and libertarian on others, which could allow him to cross the country’s political divide.

One thing you didn’t know: While a teenager, O’Rourke acknowledged in an exclusive interview, he belonged to the oldest group of computer hackers in U.S. history.

The hugely influential Cult of the Dead Cow, jokingly named after an abandoned Texas slaughterhouse, is notorious for releasing tools that allowed ordinary people to hack computers running Microsoft’s Windows. It’s also known for inventing the word “hacktivism” to describe human-rights-driven security work.

Members of the group have protected O’Rourke’s secret for decades, reluctant to compromise his political viability. Now, in a series of interviews, CDC members have acknowledged O’Rourke as one of their own. In all, more than a dozen members of the group agreed to be named for the first time in a book about the hacking group by this reporter that is scheduled to be published in June by Public Affairs. O’Rourke was interviewed early in his run for the Senate.

Under Texas law, stealing long-distance service worth less than $1,500 is a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine. More than that is a felony, and could result in jail time. It is unclear whether O’Rourke topped that threshold. In any event, the state bars prosecution of the offense for those under 17, as O’Rourke was for most of his active time in the group, and the statute of limitations is five years. Two Cult of the Dead Cow contemporaries in Texas who were caught misusing calling cards as minors got off with warnings.

O’Rourke handed off control of his own board when he moved east for boarding school, and he said he stopped participating on the hidden CDC board after he enrolled at Columbia University at age 18.

Also Suite 8F, of which his maternal grandfather, Fred Korth, fomer Sec of the Navy under JFK, was a member, consisting of a multitude of Texas Businesmen and Politician kingmakers.

Beto is also rumored to have buglarized a property, but again 'interference from on high' prevented any charges.

A libby who used to be a punchable Skater kid and listened to the Dead Kennedys. Wow, how special and unique.

Seriously, given the grifter in Chief's past history is anyone's "youthful indulgence" politically relevant ? Seems to me Trump's election probably ended such stupidity.

A typical Beto advertising piece. Appears to give "facts", but in reality avoids anything that could embarrass St. Beto. Such as:

his well-connected Daddy judge got him off the DWI and running from police arrest. Drunk driving arrest while young, while not being anything to be proud of, is understandable. It is deplorable that Peoples Candidate's/Rebellious Jesus daddy got him off.

"Almost won" does not count. Especially if you spent several times more money than person whom you lost to, and if person whom you lost to is the least likeable politician in the visible Universe, who is additionally hated by large segments of local Republican establishment.
19   Ceffer   2019 Mar 15, 1:41pm

The DWI just meant it cost Daddy and Mumsie a lot more to fake credential him and get him into Columbia. They had to give him the same drool abatement medicine they give bloodhounds for his interviews.
