I'm usually all pro-American, but she deserved those penalties. Acted like a bitch, true to the Western symptom where women think they can do whatever the fuck they want without consequences. The umpire was right. She also pulled the wommyn card, claiming men can do it without repercussions - I don't know how many matches of John McEnroe I watched where he lost points or games for misbehaving, loved his games but that's part of the game.

Didn’t John McEnroe make a career of this sort of thing?

Well his games drew the most viewers because of his fights with himself, the opponent, the umpire etc. We're all human, but usually after the game he took his warnings and penalties pretty well and acknowledged he deserved them. This is definitely not a sexism thing and that was a lame play by Serena.

Serena was losing so she saw this as an opportunity to try and taint Osaka's win and make a political statement against women's tennis given the perceived inequities. She knew exactly what she was doing, and the manner in which she did it was very cowardly.

Do the crime and do the time. Don't like the rules, lobby to change them but don't put on a tantrum to deter from the fact that she's losing to a perfectly composed, feminine woman.

That could well be part of it.

Serena and other athletes forget what they are; a cog in the wheel of "sports entertainment".

The networks which showed the contest sell time for commercials for things like life insurance, cell phone plans, Olive Garden, etc.

The winner gets paid endorsements, while the companies paying the endorsements (Nike, etc.) make higher profits selling sneakers and clothes made for a few dollars in foreign sweatshops. Nike just figured out to get endorsement from a failed 49er quarterback for example to still increase sales.

Serena was doing her job, and the rules of the job vary with the sport. If she breaks rules while at work, she will have negative consequences.

Sports figures all haven't figured out they are just trained seals for your amusement.

What a fool and for the tennis organization to support her-the poor winner was a 20 year old-at least she was a minority too-else they would have said this was white supremacy Nazi and blame Trump.

John McEnroe I watched where he lost points or games for misbehaving
Before the 70's, tennis had been the game of gentlemen and good behavior. With all the other cultural meltdowns in the 1970's, tennis could hardly have been left alone, so we had the antics of such people as McEnroe and Ille "Nasty" Nastase and it's been downhill ever since. It was a far cry from the world of "Big Bill" Tilden who was the world champion from 1923 to 1927. Everyone thought it was also nice that he was always surrounded by young boys who he was coaching and taking for weekend trips in his red Marmon. It wasn't revealed until the 1940's when he was in his 50's that he had actually been a pedophile for years. The second time he was caught, in 1946, he was sentenced to hard labor for five years. He was released and in 1953 while he was tutoring a 15 year old boy, he died of a heart attack while planning to take him to a training camp.

Looks like he was thrown out of the Australian open once for repeatedly assholish behavior, but otherwise most of his penalties were fines. And his tirades were profane enough to make a sailor blush.

Meanwhile, Serena was penalized a point, then a game, and then 17,000 clams for calling the judge a 'thief'. Really, that's all she could come up with? The only thing Serena screwed up was her insult to the judge.. if you're gonna go there, might as well let the judge really have it.

You'd better believe there's a double standard. Yes, they're all cogs in the sports entertainment machine, but women have it way worse.

Ofc there is. Women have their own leagues so as to allow them a chance for competition. Different game, different rules.

Show me a woman who behaved this way (or even a man in today's game) then MAYBE the Serena tantrum apologizers would have a point.

I had a black man screaming "Honkey!" at me this morning when I pulled into the gas station. In his private world he was under assumption I violated his space somehow by pulling into the gas station ahead of him, cutting him off. When he was at least 6 car lengths behind doing 20 mph and I zipped in 35 mph.

Give your race baiting shit a rest will ya?! Obama broke the doohicky off that thingamajigger a long fucking time ago.

Racism is a dead Red Herring, any and all political clout and juice from that Agitation Bullhorn has drained out and is no more.

Stop acting like fucking Monkeys you filthy fucking APES!

I thought they were the complete equal to men. The match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs in 1973 when King was 29 and Riggs was 55 was a joke. It was more like a younger man playing an older man--King was later revealed to be one of the most promiscuous dykes in the league. Was living with her lover, supporting the whole family and had bought them a home. If a man had done that with a woman it would have been a scandal. Marina Navratilova turned out to be a big proselytizer for LBGTQ. Probably the most normal tennis champion would have been Helen Wills (1905-1998). She didn't grandstand, played against men to hone her skills, something no self-respecting feminist would do today. Charlie Chaplin was once asked what he considered to be the most beautiful sight that he had ever seen. He responded that it was "the movement of Helen Wills playing tennis." www.youtube.com/embed/kCjIL1E1Zeo

Oh, cool, can you show me in the tennis rulebook how they're different, other than women playing 3 sets and men playing 5 in the 4 Grand slams?

Lol the article you linked contains an example where he lost a point. This is not a complete list. And how about getting completely thrown out of a grand slam. There is no double standard.

Behavioral penalties are enforced differently in different leagues, for sure. The womens' tennis tour will have different interpretations than the men's and certainly different than men 40 years ago.

When you can show us a modern player who behaves like this and doesnt get a penalty, get back to us.

We are all now stupider for having discussed ghetto tennis player behavior.

She isn’t acting classy, that’s very ghetto to start settling disputes like it’s Jerry Springer drama.

It's strange how you are constantly bringing up race in this thread when Serena's entire argument is based on gender inequality. No one's bringing up race except you.

Oh, and it's more like 96%.
