Local businesses would go out of business because nobody would want to schlep crap around. So they end up being employee based economy working for companies that any company anywhere in the world could do. I wonder what trades people have to go through to work there. They are all probably hourly flunkies that don't know dick all, and drive a truck for the company that is owned by venture capital groups and they own several industries and trades in that town. Like happened in South Florida with out the Liberal Snowglobe bullshit.
The title is misleading. They "banned" cars from the smal downtown area of 300,000 sq.m. (roughly 75 acres) surrounded by roads and free underground parking garages. Nobody is going to "shelp crap around" - they have mostly bars, restaurands and boutiques there. Their Costcos and Targets are still in the car-accessible areas on the outskirts. This kind of arrangement is not THAT unusual.
They've also kept out bigger corporations in favor of small business. I think it's cool that they raised the money privately rather than bonding away their children's future.

Eh, except for one of the biggest and worst of them all, front and center, Citibank! Should have been a local Credit Union instead of those fucks!
