Also, Dog Rape Culture,a study of Canine Patriarchy and Rape Culture at Dog Parks. Proudly published by Academic Presses.

Affilia, a peer-reviewed journal of women and social work, formally accepted the trio’s hoax paper, “Our Struggle Is My Struggle: Solidarity Feminism as an Intersectional Reply to Neoliberal and Choice Feminism.” The second portion of the paper is a rewrite of a chapter from “Mein Kampf.” Affilia’s editors declined to comment.

The trio say they’ve proved that higher ed’s fixation on identity politics enables “absurd and horrific” scholarship. Their submissions were outlandish—but no more so, they insist, than others written in earnest and published by these journals.

Gender, Place & Culture, for instance, published a 2017 paper that wasn’t a hoax analyzing the “feminist posthumanist politics” of what squirrels eat. This year Hypatia, a journal of feminist philosophy, published an analysis of a one-woman show featuring “the onstage cooking of hot chocolate and the presence of a dead rat.” The performance supposedly offers “a synthaesthetic portrait of poverty and its psychological fallout.”

The trio say the biases in favor of grievance-focused research was so strong that their hoax papers sailed through peer review, acceptance and publication despite obvious problems. The data for the dog-park study, Mr. Lindsay says, “was constructed to look outlandish on purpose. So asking us for the data would not have been out of sorts. It would have been appropriate, and we would have been exposed immediately.”

I didn't realize that the patrons of Bellevue Mental Hospital had an academic journal.

You have to face the fact that some people simply deserve poverty.

Back when SJWs were trying to infiltrate the "Skeptic Community", they used to complain about "Hyperskeptical Attitudes towards Proven Social Science", ie Social Justice.

This is not just 1 fake paper. They wrote 20 hoax papers that illustrate and parody what they call "grievance studies,".

"Three scholars — Helen Pluckrose, a self-described "exile from the humanities" who studies medieval religious writings about women; James A. Lindsay, an author and mathematician; and Peter Boghossian, an assistant professor of philosophy at Portland State University — spent 10 months writing 20 hoax papers that illustrate and parody what they call "grievance studies," and submitted them to "the best journals in the relevant fields." Of the 20, seven papers were accepted, four were published online, and three were in process when the authors "had to take the project public prematurely and thus stop the study, before it could be properly concluded." A skeptical Wall Street Journal editorial writer, Jillian Kay Melchior, began raising questions about some of the papers over the summer.

Beyond the acceptances, the authors said, they also received four requests to peer-review other papers "as a result of our own exemplary scholarship." And one paper — about canine rape culture in dog parks in Portland, Ore. — "gained special recognition for excellence from its journal, Gender, Place, and Culture … as one of 12 leading pieces in feminist geography as a part of the journal’s 25th anniversary celebration."
[...]
"Another published paper, "Going In Through the Back Door: Challenging Straight Male Homohysteria, Transhysteria, and Transphobia Through Receptive Penetrative Sex Toy Use," appeared in Sexuality and Culture. It recommends that men anally self-penetrate "to become less transphobic, more feminist, and more concerned about the horrors of rape culture."

The trolling trio wondered, they write, if a journal might even "publish a feminist rewrite of a chapter from Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf." Yup. "Our Struggle Is My Struggle: Solidarity Feminism as an Intersectional Reply to Neoliberal and Choice Feminism" was accepted by the feminist social-work journal Affilia."

This just proves that academia is pretty much pointless.
I know a fair number of professors, and they’re always finding the most obscure and irrelevant things to study and write papers about. They apply for and get government grants to do so of course. Which means their salary is at least partially compensated to the school which gets them tenure. So they have every incentive to do completely bogus research for financial reward.

No it doesn't.
This applies strictly to some social/gender studies where there is no shared, objective truth criteria.

Those three women are certainly properly unattractive and/or fat. In fact, when you look at that lecture hall there's not an attractive woman to be seen anywhere. They all need to go to the beauty parlor, apply some lip rouge and eye shadow and would look much more attractive.

This is simultaneously such an hilarious prank and such a damning report on the academic rigor (or total lack thereof) of these grievance studies. Maybe they should be renamed "Grievance Arts" since it is all so subjective and apparently just an expression of group aesthetics.

Coincidentally, in the late '90s, I lived with one of the 3 professors in this story (Boghossian) for a year or so. He's got a great sense of humor. Big ST:TNG fan, too.

Madness and insanity laced with profanity. So, PC University culture gave these bozos their own sandboxes to piss in. What a great way to spend education dollars.
