Oh here's why your Retail Space in American is dying and Malls are huge empty White Elephants in every town.

A robot parking app will hold your spot this Black Friday

Here's a potential timesaver this Black Friday: a smartphone app that will deploy a robot to hold a parking space for you at the mall.

Details: MyPark is a Miami-based parking reservation service that, per Forbes, deploys mobile space blockers to hold spots for customers willing to pay a few dollars for the convenience.

The app triggers a pop-up rectangle that blocks other cars from parking in the reserved space.
When the rightful renter arrives, it folds down flat so they can drive over it.
The startup has deals with some of the country's biggest mall operators, including Simon Property Group and the Mall of America.
Its spaces are close to the mall entrances, making the reservation service doubly attractive.
My thought bubble: Parking is a pain, especially during the holidays. If you can use technology to save your spot, you won't have to push your kid out of the car to stand there while you circle back around. And you don't have to tip the valet, either.

Mental note made, I'll never shop at retail spaces owned by the Mall of America or Simon Property Group.

Who still goes to a mall anyway? Unless you absolutely "need" something today, there's zero reason to ever go to a mall anymore.

You'd think that'd be the conventional wisdom (and I agree, I hate going to malls) but so, so many people still think a good time means going to malls and fighting crowds in the pursuit of a 'good deal' or 'finding the right item' or whatever. It boggles the mind, the amount of landfill people buy every year, hemorrhaging their life savings on crap they don't need and won't use.

Lol, I hate people. Airport is about the only place you'll see me in a crowded spot and that's usually to travel to a place with less people and warm weather. I also don't get the mentality that you'll get a good deal at a mall when they're paying property taxes, insurance and leases before even selling a product on the shelf. My mind still gets blown every time I go into a friends house (family of 4) and they make 3,000 square feet look like it's not enough space for one person.

The optional hand job robot is controversial.

Malls killed Main Street.

Amazon killed malls.

I saw plenty of these devices in Europe crushed and flattened. Much more sturdy-looking than the shit on the picture too. Methinks in US where average Joe has much better access to much heavier and high-clearance vehicles these things will live even shorter and more painful life.

When I lived in CA , never went to a mall. But in IL, in winter I go to the mall atleast once or twice a week for the exercise in winter. Walking outside in icy weather can be dangerous! I already slipped and fell once. I wonder how they manage with property taxes and heating bills in iL?

I loved the Malls in the 80's.
I think they over saturated them.
They kept building them, then building an even bigger one with more box retailers built on the premises, while leaving huge empty white elephants behind.
The Malls were chasing the gated communities as they built out in the undeveloped lands. Leaving their best Customers behind. You got to drive way out west to get to the mall. But going there doesn't feel any different than going to the Dicks/Burlington Coat Factory/Home Depot/Best Buy/Whole Foods shopping center just down the street from you off the expressway. Because they built the same stores at the new Malls.

Actually, you missed a step:

Malls killed Main Street.

Walmart, Big Box, and other stand alones like Best Buy killed Malls

Amazon is hurting Walmart and Best Buy, and pushing them toward on-line sales

Yeah, when they still had video arcades. I miss change being relevant...

I live near a mall that's been derelict for almost 20 years. Just been sitting there, empty. Cops use it for a little office space and it's been used a few times for movie shoots but otherwise it's totally abandoned. Pretty eerie.
