There are two flavors of regret-hire, the Grievance Artist and the Non-Player Character.

You will accidentally hire many NPCs. Some will remain dormant forever, some will occasionally reveal their true masters with virtue signaling t-shirts or tut-tutting the latest news with mainstream media talking points, but they generally lack the independent thought to make any trouble.

If you hire one Grievance Artist, you will know. They will activate the sleeper cell of NPCs in the organization. They will sow discontent and manufacture crises. They will try to train up NPCs into being deputy Grievance Artists using the the playbook: first, Nihilism Lite; then on to concepts in Postmodernism; then Cultural Marxism as the cure; finally, Intersectional Victimology as the religion.

Try as you might to screen, you're gonna get some NPCs. You just have to make damn sure you never hire the Grievance Artist. Some warning signs: has a Twitter presence, has given or promoted talks on "equity", went to a SJW diploma mill like Evergreen or Oberlin, job history shows lots of sub-2-year stints, has the "dip a pet" bad faded dye job in wacky colors, has the nose "bull ring", has resting bitch face (RBF) or Soy Face, wants to introduce "codes of conduct" to an organization, ever casually uses any of the following words or phrases in an interview: "let's unpack that", "privilege", "hate speech", "marginalized", "underrepresented", "problematic", "diversity", "equity" (not "equality", and not equity in the financial sense).

Anything is harassment as long as the person thinks it is. That’s the stupidity of CA harassment laws.

That is absolutely accurate.

The main question for me is how to most effectively deal with it. The Grievance Artist is operating from her high horse of moral infallibility. Any objection to, say, diversity for its own sake (instead of competition based purely on individual merit) will be met with shrieks of moral outrage from the Grievance Artist and her NPC "sleeper cell" (excellent analogy).

The newest thing they are trying to push that I've noticed at my kids School was trying to change stem to steam. Adding arts to stem makes the whole point of stem utterly pointless.

That will just make my time worth more.

There are still a silent majority of moderates, Classical Liberals, and Libertarians here. Art and Music make Science, Technology, Engineering and Math ‘utterly pointless’ how do you figure?

Why the need for an acronym? It’s school for Christ Sakes, what is the point of taking all the subjects and creating an acronym to promote some sort of silly exclusiveness?

It’s not just Arts and Music that they want to add in, its liberal arts in general art is a pretty vague thing. What is the point in making something to focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math if it’s just going to be diluted back down to nothing by including everything else? The whole point was to try to kick start creating more engineers and scientists because we have a shortage and a massive over abundance of liberal arts majors with pointless degrees.

STEM is the shittiest acronym on the face of the planet. Why try to group the disciplines?

Biologists suck at Chemistry
Chemists suck at Biology
Physicists suck at Biology
Biologists suck at Physics
Engineers suck at Chemistry
Mathematicians suck at Biology
Artists suck at everything other than art

We have some people that can crossover. For example, I am a Physical Chemist. There are also biochemists and biophysicists. But for the most part, my experience in academia is that people aren't even that proficient at their own discipline, let alone another. This acronym has become a source of frustration with me personally because the high schools are now hiring "STEM supervisors" which is usually double speak for "I suck at all sciences so I just tell people I'm STEM".

As far as SJW go, they've been at it for a good 20 years already. When I was in graduate school, nearly every fellowship was designed for a women or a minority. Whites and asian males were excluded from such awards. They were forced to slave away while the less qualified people were handed fellowships and pushed through the program. Moreover, if you are a female, and have a 3.5, you can get into any grad school you want for Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering. Harvard, MIT, no problem. You are automatically accepted. Guys...the odds probably go down 95%.

Girls and coding. Great. Here is my pager. You fix 40-year-old COBOL applications at 2 in the morning when they crash.

Companies dumb enough to give these people reigns deserve everything they get.

You've practically answered the question right there. Those with a STEM background specializing in one area won't be experts in other areas, but at least they have some general background in the other areas and a general background needed to understand and be easily trained in other areas at a basic level. Plus, those with STEM degrees probably at least did something in their life that was intellectually difficult.

You've practically answered the question right there. Those with a STEM background specializing in one area won't be experts in other areas, but at least they have some general background in the other areas and a general background needed to understand and be easily trained in other areas at a basic level. Plus, those with STEM degrees probably at least did something in their life that was intellectually difficult.

Perhaps you missed the part where I said there a few who can bridge the gap. For the most part, those that specialize in a subject like Chemistry are not even required to take biology. Degrees with the acronym stem in it end up taking watered down versions of every class and end up being proficient at nothing.

We are in a trade was with China. And I am all for policies against China the country. As an Asian American born here, your comments would be considered offensive.
