Protected from HIV? Just exactly when did they expect these twin girls infants to start butt fucking so that they needed this protection?

Playing God.. what could possibly go wrong?

They don't know what will happen to those kids. They just deleted a gene (like a monkey experiment). They have no idea what it'll mean in a long run. They don't know everything that gene does or why nature selectively chose to keep it there over thousands of years of evolution.

I don't think the outrage is overblown. They are experimenting on newborns. Is that humane? I know liberals don't care, they self castrate already, but the rest of the society does care.

So did God actually speak with you about this, or do you speak for God in scientific matters?

Why would you assume either over the most logical conclusion? If God creates life, and now man has decided he thinks he can design a baby, i.e. create life, what else can I say?

So you’re saying prenatal medicine is against Gods law.

What about vaccination? Organ transplants? Flying machines?

Do you ever read back through the comments people in the context to your reactions? Your replies are extreme, in no way related to anything I've said.

If you have something relevant to say that relates to my comment, I'd love to hear it. If you just want to be reactionary and ridiculous, you can do it on your own.

Now for some rational, logical thoughts on this subject. Man has a history of arrogance when it comes to his interactions with things he doesn't understand that have had terrible ramifications. Just looking back at the 20th century we can are starting to see how the proliferation of chemicals is significantly shortening both the quantity, and quality of our lives. We are poisoning our planet like nobodies business. From half-assed oil drilling in the gulf, to pesticides killing off bee populations, to mass-produced food that erodes and leeches our soil of any nutrition. We have governments who openly admit to weather manipulation, when we can't even predict a rainstorm with complete accuracy.

But I guess I should forget all those colossal blunders, and somehow assume that when it comes to human DNA, something we barely understand, and that is far more complex than anything we've fucked up so far, I should just assume our limited knowledge is enough to play God here to.

Ludicrous.

There are perhaps conservatives, at genomic companies, who only care about their bottom line. Remember President Coolidge's adage, "The business of America is business."

In the beginning, it's playing Baron Von Frankenstein. But then, if the monstrous side effects don't come to fruition, it's a one way trip to Gattaca, where a society's caste is fully determined by one's birth DNA. Both outcomes would be a tragedy.

It's better if these experiments, ala gene therapy, could be done on mature adult so that everyone knows what they're getting into.

Peter is right: we have been playing God since we abandoned our hunter-gatherers lifestyle, used animals, built cities, modified the environment, domesticated the atom, sent robots to other planets, saved kids that would otherwise have died if left in God's hands, etc....
If fixing genes sounds far reaching... consider this:

Biologists Create Cells With 6 DNA Letters, Instead of Just 4.
https://www.wired.com/2014/05/synthetic-dna-cells/

We will play God much more. You have seen nothing yet. We will fuck-up big.

Republicans will design their children to be bigger assholes than their parents.

Unlike liberals, we have children. Most of us anyway. Liberals are too busy figuring out their gender, stupidity is real.
