Threats of tariffs created thousands of factory jobs for Americans.
It all comes down to this. Canada, China, EU, etc has ALWAYS levied tariffs against the U.S. They do it to gain a competitive advantage against the US in their own domestic markets.
Yet when we do the same it's "Hurting the economy, against free trade, fascist".

What's interesting is that BMW doesn't want to build more plants in Germany; of course not, they have expensive workers and benefits there.
The reason foreign car companies even build cars in the USA is to avoid tariffs; the threat of imported car limits and tariffs caused them to build many of their cars in the USA.

Move plants to a majority Blue State & I'll buy two!

“We’re at the range where you could think about a second location” in the United States, he said, adding that such a factory would provide a natural currency hedge.

The real reason is the 45% mandatory $16/hr bit as part of the Trump renegotiated NAFTA. If BMW put all their parts manufacturing in Mexico they originally planned, and only assembled them in South Carolina, they've been slapped with a big fat tariff. So now they have to bring those parts making jobs to the USA.
And of course BMW wants May's False Brexit, since Germany has 50%+ of the UK Automarket under the 4th Reich German Colonialism Plan. If the UK was free to sign trade agreements with the US, ROK, Japan, India...
