@patrick new idea for p.net

Not sure how hard this would be to implement but what about creating 2 new sites. 1 like p.net used to be, no moderators. The other, moderation done by those who don't agree with Trump, exactly opposite of how it is now.

Just throwing it out there.

Oh, all posts flow through original p.net site and each team moderates how they choose.

Working on changing the site to use comments signed in the browser with a private key, so there would be no login at all, only public key identities.

It would look and work the same as now, with the big difference that the database could be entirely readable by everyone because there would no longer be any passwords or email addresses in it.

Of course it would still require some moderation, simply because of spammers if nothing else.

BUT - then the site would be trivial to replicate, and each copy could choose which public key identities to show comments from. So you could have your own moderation policy without much work.

Patrick @ #3,
Good idea!
Bet someone will find something to bitch & moan about.
I demand that everything goes my way!

Why would one let Reps & Dems screw up their site?

Someone moderate this:
Fuck Republicans & Democrats!

Probably going to show my ass here and come across as hypocritical since I've probably bitched about something here, but why do we keep getting these threads? It's the god damn internet! Everyone is free to make their own site like this. Really not that hard if you're a functioning adult with even three quarters of a brain. Hell Patrick has offered the keys to start a site.

I generally like it here. When I don't anymore, I'll go somewhere else. It's life. Fuck, I don't know what my 2nd grade best friends name even is anymore yet we were friends at that time. If you're 40 now, you likely won't remember Patrick.net when you're 80 (that's not a diss Patrick, just reality). Unknot the undies my fellow Patriots.

Yes, that ^^^

If you like it, stay, if you don't like it, leave.

I don't make any money from the site, so I don't really care. Going to run it the way I want to.

On the upside: you are not the product on patrick.net, unlike almost everywhere else on the internet. See all the advertising? Aha - there isn't any! (Well, there is an ad in the footer my little book which sells 4 copies a month, just about covering the $20/month hosting fee.)

I don't track anyone or sell their data. I try to maintain a place where people feel free to speak - the one thing that really messes with that is personal flaming.

Going to just start deleting any comment or post which personally attacks another user, the moderators, or the site. Makes me happy to delete that stuff.

No one had better say something that upsets me! I'm ultra sensitive.

Stop being a dick Patrick #endsarcasm

I actually think everyone here would be civil enough on most topics. Politics being the exception. Unfortunately politics is up the butt every day, everywhere. Not sure if this will be playable within the site, but Chicago politics are at least gayer than ever: https://soundcloud.com/89-wls/ald-tom-tunney-will-be-up-your

Good point. I should have asked @patrick if he'd let the original uncensored feed of patrick.net go to another site that would be censored by people who lean to the left.

Valid point. Never actually thought of that (I have, just not really if that makes sense). He could just shut it down anytime and go about his life. I can't tell if we're all dumber for being here or if some of the weirdos here get something out of the posts and comments. I've learned I don't want to live the Bay Area, that's for sure. You CA guys are fucking weird. Us wholesome midwestern types are what you should strive to be. Not that IL is that great, but it has a place in my small intestines.

The Housing Trap
You're being set up to spend your life paying off a debt you don't need to take on, for a house that costs far more than it should. The conspirators are all around you, smiling to lure you in, carefully choosing their words and watching your reactions as they push your buttons, anxiously waiting for the moment when you sign the papers that will trap you and guarantee their payoff. Don't be just another victim of the housing market. Use this book to defend your freedom and defeat their schemes. You can win the game, but first you have to learn how to play it.
