Police officers are expensive. Before we dig ourselves an even deeper safety retirement hole we should really ask some important questions.

In more than twenty years I commuted on BART, I never once saw a BART cop in a BART station or on a BART train. Why should SFPD cops be patrolling BART station? Instead of hiring more SFPD cops, why don’t we insist that BART cops actually be cops and do the job they are being so well to do and allow SFPD cops to patrol SOMA and the tenderloin.

Also why aren’t more SFPD cops on the street doing police work instead of doing office work that doesn’t need to be done by sworn police officers. This is a huge problem in police departments in California.

I don’t think more cops is the solution.

Less liberals, yes.

More cops does no good when you have a catch and release policy. What we need is a catch and shoot policy.

The insistence of some tech companies to have offices on some shithole street in SF with no parking and tons of sketchy characters running around is puzzling.

Police officers per 10k citizens:

San Francisco = 26.4
Chicago = 43.9
New York = 42.3
Washington = 56.9
Atlanta = 38.3
Boston = 32.2
...
Los Angeles = 24.6

Draw your own conclusions.

My conclusion: Liberals suck at controlling crime.

I rarely see cops on the road in here CA vs Texas. Norcal nor Socal.

I sort of like that part.

I have a waaay better fuzz buster these days too.

Hard to compare since all of those cities, and all major U.S. cities for that matter are dominated by "liberals." What's your example of a large American city that's run by conservatives, that does so much better ?

Interesting that LA and SF are the lowest, and arguably among the most liberal. Wow, DC is more than double LA or SF.

You have a point. Statistics on number of various crimes committed vs # of cops might be a better indicator.
I still believe liberals are too weak on crime.

And guns are banned, and it's like 90% Democrat and "majority minority".

Guess what city is also top 5 for murder ? Washington, DC.

The problem is policies, not cops. And Demographics. Declining Murder Rates in DC are very well correlated with the decrease in the minority population in the face of gentrification.

And more controversially:

It shows the Black community for whatever reasons, are more likely to commit crimes. This is not good for America.
We need to fix this. Removing the rotten apples from the basket is the first step. Sadly, the nice liberals think keeping the rotten apples in the basket can work, because the apples going rotten was not their fault. Hasn't worked at all.

The tech industry should get out of SF and go back where it's always been - in the suburbs. SV has never had anything to do with SF - it's a fairly recent fad. I don't even understand why the Fin industry is insisting on remaining in the downtown (the fucking stock exchange is gone, hello!), but at least they were there historically. Did Hewlett and Packard have their garage start in Ess-fucking-Eff? No. Woz and Jobs? Nope. I want my fucking tech office where it belongs - in the clean, safe suburbs with ample free parking.
