When Californians voted in 2016 to allow the sale of recreational marijuana, advocates of the move envisioned thousands of pot shops and cannabis farms obtaining state licenses, making the drug easily available to all adults within a short drive.
But as the first year of licensed sales comes to a close, California’s legal market hasn’t performed as state officials and the cannabis industry had hoped.

...

“The cannabis industry is being choked by California’s penchant for over-regulation,” said Dale Gieringer, director of California NORML, a pro-legalization group. “It’s impossible to solve all of the problems without a drastic rewrite of the law, which is not in the cards for the foreseeable future.”

They thought it will be different for them. Bwahahahaha. Welcome to the club, motherfuckers.

Heh, Heh, the market was already saturated with peak ingress.

Why buy what can be grown as easily as weeds and grass, for the money it's worse than bottled water.

CA legislation lives in lalaland, they think everyone is a pot smoker, leftist, homosexual, tranny, oppressed minority. Nothing else exists or matters to them.

It is pretty damn easy to buy recreational pot where it is available. I would guess the issue is local control. A lot of towns and counties have restricted or zeroed out the number of sales outlets. That is the case in the Noth Bay. Not sure if Marin has any rec.pot stores, Sonoma has a few.

Oh? Got a source to back that up?

who passed tranny bathroom laws? (got money for changing out all signs easily)
where we have homeless crisis beyond belief?
where we have illegals living in sanctuary cities?
where we have water shortages that are not getting solved?
where we have housing shortages that are not getting solved?

There's your source, real life CA. I don't need CNN to tell me what to think.

Market was already saturated from recreational growth and sales since 1996. Whoops, I forgot, we were all medical users until this past year...

Seriously though, it peaked probably 5 or more years ago as far as price. Growers have been getting shafted ever since, while dispensaries continue to charge the same price. Someone's making money, but it's not mom and pop anymore. Now it's a fucking industry.

I need to watch Humboldt County again...

Now it's a fucking industry.

Did you really think that is not how it would turn out? Maybe we will see branding like "Peter Puffer" in the style of "Joe Camel." Or a giant ape "King Bong." New Phillip Morris MJ Division slogan - "Pipe or Joint, our stuff is on point." "Blunts are for Cunts, buy new Marijuana Smalls." Then in 20 years that "industry" will be hit with class action lawsuits similar to what happened to the tobacco industry.

Why do you keep saying this? What is your reasoning?

Imagine how low it will get once you can buy the plants at Home Depot in the six packs like tomatoes.

bustling industry
Whatever you can say about pot users, the word "bustling" usually doesn't apply, they're more like slackers.

I wonder how the different varieties will be labeled.

Clearly there is a marketing opportunity for Checch and Chong here.

One year of legal pot sales and California doesn’t have the bustling industry it expected.

Corrected version:
One year of legal pot sales and California doesn’t have the tax revenue that it expected from it.
