From the same Russian guy who wrote about Silicon Valley. You must agree absolutely and unquestioningly with bitter and intolerant leftists or you will not be allowed to speak at conferences:

I was on my way to the airport just a week ago, planning to attend a conference as a speaker. My talk was about DevOps practices. I was planning to present our practical results in the area of multi-server deployment without a single central point of failure. While in the taxi, I checked my inbox and found this:

Hi Yegor,
It has come to our attention that some of your views
on women in tech published as posts on your blog and
twitter conflict with our aims of promoting an inclusive
and diverse conference. In this light, we have decided
to cancel your talk. You are of course still welcome
to attend the event as an attendee, assuming you accept
the terms of our code of conduct. Apologies for the late
notice on this.

...

My social views conflict with their aims and that’s why they decided to not let me speak about DevOps!

I wonder, what would they have done if they had found out that I was, for example, a Muslim and believed that “a woman’s sphere of operation is the home, and a man’s corresponding sphere is the outside world.”

It's time for tech conferences which explicitly ban all consideration of politics and be just about the tech. Why would anyone even want to go to a tech conference where you cannot hear certain tech speakers or tech topics just because of the speaker's politics? You lose out on the tech, which is what you're there for to begin with.

The only code of conduct should be to not attack the other attendees personally.

Read an article in Scientific American. Author had to break out in a completely non-sequitur paean to diversity, and how much it has improved his science and insights. i thought WTF, they even have the scientists so cowed that they have to inject this libby editorial propaganda crap into an article that is supposed to be about knowledge and proof, not politics?

You do realize many women want to be homemakers?

It’s great for family and children.
Leftists hate those women.

7   Patrick   2018 Dec 28, 12:16pm

I myself applied to speak at SXSW on a tech topic and was asked how my speaking would bring "diversity" to the conference, by a woman who subsequently denied my application.

Sure, could be that the suggested talk wasn't good enough, but I have no doubt that being a straight white male were three factors against me, because liberals.

Another guy from our company was accepted to speak. He's Iranian.
8   Ceffer   2018 Dec 28, 12:23pm

"Diversity" is becoming the new secret code for "incompetent PC hacks and fakes pushed to the top". Welcome to the stifling pretend world.

I've seen that before. A company hires one or two of those "diversity types", pushes them to the top in front of everyone. It leads to good people to leaving because "fuck this".

When companies reward race instead of skill, it's what you get... lots of incompetent people of various race/gender/etc/attribute, but no skills. Fast track to shitter.
11   Patrick   2018 Dec 28, 12:45pm

Maybe there could be shareholder lawsuits against companies that hire on the basis of race above all else, harming profits and therefore harming shareholders.

Management is legally obligated to "act in the best interest of shareholders".

A lot of it is CA laws. They encourage and force diversity hiring. Not all of it, some of it is just leftist stuff, but that line has been crossed insanely far.
13   Patrick   2018 Dec 28, 3:02pm

Why, exactly, are California laws that way?

I can think of a lot of reasons, but not sure of how it really happened.

* California farming companies are dependent on illegal slave labor and are big lobbyists in Sacramento, against enforcing US immigration law.
* California is very transient and unstable. There is no coherent population spanning multiple generations, acting in its own interests.
* California has a lot of young people, who are inherently more liberal because they have less in assets to protect against expropriation.
* California has a lot of universities, where students are intensely indoctrinated by the nearly 100% leftist faculty.
* California has a lot of gays, who don't care much about the future because they can't have children of their own.
* California has Hollywood, which, by consensus among the mostly-Jewish scriptwriters, is on a mission to foment anti-white racism via movie plots.
14   FortWayneAsNancyPelosiHaircut   2018 Dec 28, 3:07pm

I know recently they passed one in ca requiring certain number of board members be women, in publicly traded companies.

I’m not sure if all others. Just remember hearing similar stories in various industries.

There are laws that state if your healthcare benefits mostly go to certain races or incomes, it’s racist and your company pays fines. Health net was hit with that.

Equal pay for “equal” work.

I know owners who would decry such a law bitterly. Same guys who complain about illegal immigrants.

I doubt the above statement is true.

they don't care about results, they just want equal hiring because they pretend that every person is a clone of another and can replace each other like NPC's.

Or maybe they just want free shit they haven't earned.

Can you imagine a distinguished professional audience, perhaps a paying audience, sitting through some speaker who digresses into opinions he got from Fox, Alex Jones, Limbaugh, Breitbart, etc. because he thinks they make him sound smart.

"Professional Audience" - aka people paid to pretend they like Hillary Clinton.

I've told this story before but in grad school, they gave me a fellowship because they thought I was hispanic. They flipped a shit on the year end reporting because I did not check off the box. Having the conversation with them that I wasn't hispanic and can't check off the box was pretty amusing. By me not checking the box, they were going to miss the quota of hispanic students. I'm pretty sure the secretary illegally checked it before sending it out.

They solved the problem the next year. They imported a few students from University of Puerto Rico to do a visiting position and counted them as their minority students. Ironically, they were much better than the domestic minorities in the program.

No.

The conference would suffer walkouts and bad reviews in technical journals.

Liberal comments would draw the exact same problems.

@jazz_music Maybe you mean well, but that just isn't true. Not even close.

Liberal comments would get him compliments, and invited again by the organizers. Just like the Academy Awards etc. The bias is entirely one-sided in these things, 100%.

You have free speech only to agree with your corporate globalist liberal overlords. No other use allowed in any professional setting.
28   marcus   2018 Dec 29, 3:55pm

Think of it this way. When white folks become a small enough minority in the U.S., and injustices of the past are far enough back in the rear view mirror, white racism will be much better tolerated in the corporate world (at mid level management and lower).

And I'm sure by then you will no longer see articles in highly respected publications touting the benefits of ethnic diversity.

Meanwhile, we gotta build that fucking wall !

You want to say that the industry is so oppressive that no right wing lunatics can complain or walk out? or write up complaints in their favorite professional journals? Really?

That is precisely what you seem to be saying here.

I prefer to call them "moderates" because it's the truth.

And yes, moderates' complaints will not be listened to, nor published in their favorite professional journals.
30   Patrick   2018 Dec 29, 4:23pm

The clerk here is someone who is not moderate, and is in fact very typical of the left:

Left decided that talent doesn’t matter, only race, gender, sexual choices. Stupid people.

I wouldn't call that person typical of the left. But what I can say with much certainty is that the majority of the left would approve of his actions.
