After several purchases on a whim, don't buy non-brand name clothing, luggage, or jewelry on Amazon. Ebay is far better.

Leather messenger bag didn't just stink of leather, it stank of a slaughter house. I'm a guy who likes earthy smells, this was the smell of animal fear, blood, and feces. Tong Tang brought in roadkill to Chungking goatmeat butcher, and the carcass probably rotted for several days. Definitely not cured long enough or dry enough. Stitches were missing several holes. Yet it had mostly 5 and 4 star ratings and lots of customer pics.

I figured the quality would be shit, but I'd take it to a shoe repair place and have them stitch and reinforce the leather and turn a $50 bag into a $200 bag for $20 more. Nope!

How do they do it? They make these things for $5 inc. labor and materials, sell 'em for $40+, and DGAF. A $500 investment in 100 bags can easily net them $3000 after shipping costs. Then they offer the shit to noted reviewers who "Buy" it, and get gifts and cash on the sly. Amazon DGAF. The better stuff, made of better materials and/or workmanship, is brought and rebranded as a foreign retailer's private label.

I also brought several shirts over the years, $12-15, claiming to be 100% cotton, and of course, were polyester and again, awful stitching and see through fabric. I use one to clean the pool and absorb chlorine splashes.

Unlike Ebay, there is no way to control dropshipped or Chinese products on Amazon.

On Ebay, you can choose both country of origin, and if they fake it, set the delivery options to nix dropshipped goods (ie anything more a few days is dropshipped)

Don't buy things you wear or touch the ground with on-line. I bought a Levi jacket from Ebay, it was fake. Didn't bother to return it.
Ebay is a online flea market. It is good for hard to find things like vintage car parts, cheap Chinese electrical/electronic whatnots, as long you know their limitations. Dc-dc converters for $10, free shipping, lol. I got a new, good quality contactor for my pool pump for 25. That is almost free. Amazon is for the other normal, coveted goodies. Amazon beats Ebay on shipment speed and ease of return, hands down. Esp if you have prime. True that many reviews are bogus. I've found Amazon will censor negative reviews. They also combine reviews, so be aware. Recently, I bought some Ryobi 18V lithium 2.5AH batteries for $20, free shipping. Open one of the Ryobi's OEM and you will see a circuit board and batteries that no way they can sell for 20 in big box store and make money. You cannot even buy the just the lith batteries for that price.Or see 50 different active noise reduction headsets or hard to find supplements for my wife. I will never drive around all over town to look at sale items anymore.

I find the oddball items I want on Ebay. I read the reviews on Amazon but don't buy from them. I buy common products (TV, etc.) from Walmart.com

I needed an O-ring for an underwater camera case made by Sony years ago. The only place to find it was some guy on Ebay who was located in the UK.

I tend to use Ebay more to find things that are fine even used (e.g. fins for diving)

I don't understand the hype for Amazon but some people think it's cool.

I'm with Clambo in this one. eBay ir WalMart are almost always cheaper than Amazon anyway. The only thing I actually like about Amazon is the Amazon locker thing, since I live in a shitty neighborhood and really don't want packages left on my front porch if I can help it.

Agreed. Ebay is a great place to buy odd items and used menswear. Oxblood Wingtip Allen Edmond's with almost no wear for $50 instead of $300, Pyramid Blaster KLF Shirt from the UK.

I think I got the Goat Rapists' goathide in the bag.

Ebay for children's hot Christmas toys I should have purchased in October, cool used t-shirts, video games. Craigslist for used cellphones. Amazon is never a good option for any of those.

Ebay jumped the shark a long time ago.

It used to be a great platform and experience for both buyer and seller. They sold their souls to the power sellers, and the place turned into super retail first rate shit over night.

When there are good deals, those power buyers are armed with the best Sniper apps to scoop them up or to bid the price up so they don't compete with them.
Every niche market gets taken over by the same Power seller greedy assholes.
If Moog Synth sold on Ebay and they get wind someone bought it for $500 but it was really worth $1700. From then on every power seller will snipe everyone that comes on line or bid them up to $3500. Then shortly after that every time a Moog D25 is listed it will be for no less than $3500.

It's just a pure shit not worth the aggravation. May Ebay go the way of America Online with less class.

Amazon will be swallowed whole by Bezo's hubris in due time.
I only buy hard to find used items on Amazon. If it's something I can buy at a store I almost always will go to the store to buy it.

Amazon sells used hard to find stuff tens time cheaper than the Ebay idiots. The Ebay Idiots believes everything is a collectors item. Or they want YOU to believe it.

This is true, but still good for used shoes and coats, or for oddball items that aren't collectibles.

Amazon's clothing/shoe search is impossible. You'll look for 34x29L White Linen Pants, and it'll show you 40x50L Dark Grey Wool Pants from Andre the Giant.

Ebay for old hard to get shit, Amazon for other hard to get shit. Your right TPB about Ebay it has gone to shit I won't sell shit there after getting burned a few times, and people are starting to want absurd prices for things just like on Craigs List. Don't understand how people can expect to sell shit for more than it can be ordered or pickup at retail stores for.

Example
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Colgate-360-Optic-White-Platinum-Toothbrush-VALUE-TWO-PACK-Soft-Bristles/263757462332?hash=item3d692b7b3c:rk:4:pf:0

3-4 bucks at the store, who the fuck buys this shit on ebay.

Amazon has pretty average prices and almost no sales. I've found Brand Name Clothes better priced direct (like Nautica) and they have some great closeout sales.

For Ties, I recommend Ties.com. Massive selection, easy to navigate, almost everything they have is available in different textiles, widths, and lengths.

Never sell anything on eBay: their policies have changed so radically over the last 3-4 years that if an unscrupulous buyer wants to keep the goods and get a refund it's pretty much guaranteed he'll succeed.

eBay is good for buying geniune car or appliance parts: lots of dealers from the low-COL states are offering good pricing and fast and free shipping.

My Brother has a Haberdasher on Ebay.

He goes to the Thrift stores here in South Florida and buys up Coats, and Pants or even complete suits. Then he buys cheap ties, then goes to Ross and buys Shirts.
He puts together whole suits and outfits and sells them. He does about $1200 extra a month income out of it. But he says it's a lot of work putting suits together and will hold on to a Jacket for months before he finds the right pants to go with it.

Ties?

Who still wears ties?

I had an ebay side business selling college/pro sports apparel. Ebay banned me from selling. They then promptly banned my wife and sister in law by association.

I've always preferred Ebay, though I was an early user of both ebay and amazon. I recently ran down several Amazon gift cards I'd accumulated, after not using Amazon for almost 10 years. I was amazed to find Amazon significantly more expensive than ebay on most of the items I compared! Not at all motivated to start using Amazon once the gift cards are finished.

I buy all close at Costco. Saves me a lot of money. Good quality and price is low.

Only thing they don’t sell is suites, that’s from 3day broker store.

My philosophy:

1. Short Sleeves and Pants look dorky on 95% of men
2. So you'll wear a button up long sleeve shirt
3. If you're going to bother, might as well throw on a blazer or sports coat.
4. If you're wearing a blazer, might as well stuff a pocket square and take 40 second to tie a tie.

Put on your armor and mount up! Make America Look Great Again. You feel the difference and everybody around you does too.

Casual and Athletic wear outside the gym or beach is Cultural Marxism and became popular at the same time.

Both sites require looking around. Sometimes I find same thing with 5 different prices on each site, just have to pick the reasonable one if there is one even. And variance is huge too.

It's why I love Costco (only retailer that I own stock). If they have it, no one can beat their price.
