Complete with "Guilty for being Male" messaging. Time to stop using Gillette products.

Gillette is embracing the #MeToo movement in a new digital ad campaign aimed at men, the latest message from an advertiser attempting to change societal norms.

The ad, dubbed “We Believe,” opens with audio of news about the current #MeToo movement, bullying and “toxic masculinity.” A narrator then goes on to dispute the notion that “boys will be boys,” asking, “Is this the best a man can get? Is it? We can’t hide from it. It has been going on far too long. We can’t laugh it off, making the same old excuses.”

Guess they think the transgender market is the direction to go. Trannies have more body area to shave from thick, matted testosterone induced follicles. They'll wear out those blades in record time and need a carton more.

Seriously, their stuff is way too expensive. I am still using a vintage 80's razor that uses dual blade cartridges that I can but at some dollar stores for a buck for a 10 pack. I think I have to get them on eBay now, but still really cheap.

Lavender soap?
6   mell   2019 Jan 14, 12:28pm

Already backfiring - even on the WSJ comments. Done with Gilette, there are plenty of choices. Good job ;)

A minute of research tells me that Gillette VEnus is the highest selling womans razor.

Holding on to that market share is probably more important to Gillette than what they might lose from the type of men that would stop using gillette becasue they are with women on the whole #metoo. Some men might think that meToo has gone too far, but very few are so radically opposed to the concept in it's entirety that they are going to be turned off to gillete becasue of this. Or, I guess they'll find out.

How many men base that type of shopping on such bs. For that matter, what men will even notice it

I wonder whether campaigns could mine the sales data (change in sales) in the aftermath of this campaign to target their anti SJW political campaign ads.

I shave in the shower. I wash my face with soap, and then use a blob of rotgut hair conditioner on my beard to shave. Hair conditioner is slick, and stays on well, but doesn't clog up the razor and then washes off to leave a nice skin surface.

My genuine Gillette triple blades last nine months to a year apiece. They seem to bite the dust from dropping and accidents as much as wearing out. I suspect my wife commandeers them from time to time for her body, hair, which is probably why they don't last the full year.

They were already pissing me off with all the multiracial couples in every commerical. And I'm a child of a multiracial couple and also married out of my race. But...it was a lot less offensive. Just annoying. This is insulting.

They could have held that market by simply resting on the fact that they produce a good product. This is stupid. Gillette can only lose customers from this crap.

From the youtube comments:

Step 1: Identify your target market as men
Step 2: Produce anti-male propaganda
Step 3: Profit ?????????????????????????????????????????????????

Apparently they want men to start shaving their legs too. I assume that's the intended result of this campaign.

It's a risk, but history suggests that divisive marketing works. Remember a brand's customers are maybe 1% of the population? Sure they may lose .2% but they'll gain .5% from virtue signaling walruses known as feminists.

How do we test if this was a good or bad idea?

Pretty sure it worked for Nike.

I'd like to see the results. Nike took a different approach. They tried to make a commercial with an amazing message and only chose to have a shitty person like Kaepernick narrate it. They got away with it and I'm not sure that people were that offended by it. This on the other hand, feels different. I never stopped wearing Nike gear, even though I hate Kaepernick. I most certainly am considering switching razors once my Gillette cartridges are up. I also on Proctor and Gamble and am considering selling it for a company that I don't have to worry about pulling stupid shit to piss off your customers.

Maybe you can test by looking at the ratings on Youtube for the ad. Here they are, after one day and almost 1 million views:

13K Up votes and 129K Down votes - looks like a great decision by Gillette, right?

Gillette's "Toxic Masculinity" Ad Campaign Backfires Spectacularly.

Dear men, razor brand Gillette wants you to know that you need to shed your inherent toxic masculinity - that all men have (trust them) and have been making excuses for, and haven't done anything about until now.

The add, dubbed "We Believe" begins with a montage of bullying and sexism - as a pack of wild, toxically masculine white boys tear around, leaving behind a wake of misery and abuse.

Reached for comment by the Wall Street Journal, Gillette brand director for North America Pankaj Bhalla said "This is an important conversation happening, and as a company that encourages men to be their best, we feel compelled to both address it and take action of our own," adding "We are taking a realistic look at what’s happening today, and aiming to inspire change by acknowledging that the old saying ‘Boys Will Be Boys’ is not an excuse. We want to hold ourselves to a higher standard, and hope all the men we serve will come along on that journey to find our ‘best’ together."

Good point.

Although Nike's primary customers were already likely BLM supporters.

Gillette, maybe not.

Wtf, worst ad ever!
25   FortWayneAsNancyPelosiHaircut   2019 Jan 14, 7:48pm

26   theoakman   2019 Jan 14, 7:58pm

Most of the people on youtube are pointing out that the guys who support this ad are likely hipsters that don't even shave.
28   MisdemeanorRebel   2019 Jan 14, 8:20pm

Wanted to switch for a while, thanks Gillette for the final excuse.

Weenie. I have my local barber shave my legs and do the manscape. And he use an old fashioned strap sharpened straight razor.

Try kerosene. That roughs it up real well and kills most of them bugs. Kinda messes up things though when you wring out your beard to get leftovers.

The ones I bought at 10-12 per pack at a dollar store last about the same.

10 of these 10 packs are $11 on Amazon right now!
