Dems rising star meets with Clinton's inner circle in Hamptons

The Democrats’ “Great Freshman Hope,” Sen. Kamala Harris, is heading to the Hamptons to meet with Hillary Clinton’s biggest backers.

The California senator is being fêted in Bridgehampton on Saturday at the home of MWWPR guru Michael Kempner, a staunch Clinton supporter who was one of her national-finance co-chairs and a led fund-raiser for her 2008 bid for the presidency. He was also listed as one of the top “bundlers” for Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, having raised $3 million.

Guests there to greet Harris are expected to include Margo Alexander, a member of Clinton’s inner circle; Dennis Mehiel, a Democratic donor who is the chairman of the Battery Park City Authority, even though he lives between a sprawling Westchester estate and an Upper East Side pad; designer Steven Gambrel and Democratic National Committee member Robert Zimmerman.

Washington lobbyist Liz Robbins is also hosting a separate Hamptons lunch for Harris.

Harris, a 52-year-old former prosecutor and San Francisco district attorney who went on to become California’s attorney general, was a star of the Senate intelligence committee hearing into President Trump’s ties to Russia, grilling US Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Harris has also opposed 18 of Trump’s 22 administration nominees.

Plus, in 2013, former President Obama had to apologize after telling a group that, in addition to being “brilliant,” “dedicated” and “tough,” Harris “also happens to be, by far, the best-looking attorney general in the country.”

Despite being less than seven months into her new job as senator, Harris is already said to be the Democrats’ top fund-raiser and is being talked about as a 2020 presidential hopeful.

Harris has denied having “national aspirations,” but this Hamptons trip proves it isn’t far from her mind.

A Democratic insider said, “Kamala is the big Democratic star right now, at a time when they badly need a star. She’s coming to the Hamptons to meet key people as she takes a national stage, and expands her influence and ambitions.”

WASHINGTON—On the heels of yesterday’s announcement that she would be running for president, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) reportedly began staffing her campaign Tuesday with unpaid inmates from California correctional facilities.

“I’m so grateful to have such an incredible and devoted team headed up by my new campaign manager, Spider, as we work together to fight for American values,” said Harris of the two dozen non-violent criminal offenders who would reportedly work shifts of up to 72 hours out of her campaign office in exchange for three square meals a day and all the “Kamala Harris 2020” merchandise they could carry.

“Whether it’s knocking on doors, leading focus groups, making phone calls, or helping prep me for upcoming media appearances, my entire staff will be comprised of unpaid prison laborers.

Not only will this cut campaign-related expenses by up to $20 million, it will also allow inmates to spend time in the community and provide them with valuable work-related opportunities.” Harris added that due to a quirk in California state law, most inmates would be ineligible to work for other political campaigns once they’d been released from prison.

You really make it sound like she was anointed by all the donors present and then allowed to enlarge Hillary's inner circle.

If she makes it, her campaign will not necessarily be about her, but about that racist Trump. She'll get the black vote, no question. Spanish Indians - have to look at Obama's turnout. Probably a good chunk, especially after the ads about racist anti-immigrant Trump. Maybe not as many Cubans. Of course, the liberal and SJW vote. Progressives? Depends on Trump's exposition of her record. They may sit like they did with Hillary. But they aren't voting for Trump.

Wonder when Hillary herself will announce. Maybe Hillary is looking at K as a running mate.

She'll be a behind the scenes connector and advisor, and will hold off running in exchange for massive infusions of cash into the Clinton Foundation

Didn't Obama pay off Hillary's campaign debts (along with making her Sec of State) as part of a deal to stop her from running again after Obama's first term?

Interesting letter to the Editor in the SCMP from someone in Ohio.

Can Donald Trump be beaten in 2020 if Democrats keep playing the same song?

I am composing incidental music for the coming Democratic primary process (“Senator Kamala Harris uses MLK Day to announce US presidential run”, January 22). It is a tone poem conveying a mood of anger and resentment at what might have been, had the deplorable candidate not defeated the inevitable one last time.

Irrespective of where on the political spectrum the head of the ticket alights, from mainstream to far-left progressive, the Democratic campaign will be characterised by a constantly recurring theme, as in a rondo. We can expect a hoary demonisation of the wealthy, played triple fortissimo by the brass, even though most of the moneyed-class, even those in the hated 1 per cent, have done nothing to merit designation as public enemies.

But, just as Donald Trump uses grotesque characterisations to rouse his supporters, so do many Democratic contenders by claiming that America is a rigged country and that capitalism is a zero-sum system; if I win, you must lose.

Burlesque is a musical form that juxtaposes comic and serious factors, the former being anything savants of satire throw at the incumbent, while the latter are too numerous to count. After all, President Trump is a target-rich opportunity, perhaps, as he might say proudly, the grandest one ever.

As I apply myself to this task, I am conflicted about whether to add choreography. I think it might be appropriate since Democrats often dance around inconvenient facts.

Unless the DNC can come up with a candidate that can convince the population in the states between the east coast states and west coast states they can offer something better in terms of the economy - not going to win.

There is no shortage of disgruntled middle and lower middle class voters to tap into who are disillusioned with the messiah from NYC - the election is the DNC's to lose and so far they are giving it their all.

Can't happen. The Moneyed Classes behind the Democrats want Wide Open Borders, more Outsourcing, and more Immigration.

I for one am excited to see the Dems explain away the Koch Brothers putting their money behind Kamala/Biden/Bloomberg in the 2020 election.

It will not be mentioned. WaPo, CNN and so one will keep it out of the news. However, I do see an issue when Alex Cortez and other young DemoSocialists get angry about Koch Brothers support. Interesting to see how these trouble makers will be dealt with.

Not sure that hildebeasts “circles” can become any more enlarged.

Anyway, this was the meeting where Senator Harris became reacquainted with the use of her knees.

She announced at her CNN-rigged 'Town Hall' she is all for banning private ownership of cars.

Presumably excepting her and her buddies, of course.

Her and her buddy's cars will be "publicly owed," but for their exclusive personal use. Just like in the USSR where people "get only what they need." Politicians need limos, peasants can ride the bus.

We all know how the term "Lewinski" was added to the national lexicon. So maybe a new term "Kamala" will be added, meaning a girl who trades favors for promotion or advancement.

"I wonder who she Kamalaed to get that gig?"

"That kid only got Valedictorian because his mom Kamalaed the Principle."

"This company is run by a Mike Pence type, ain't nobody gonna Kamala him for the CFO job."

It’s funny how they airbrush her to look younger and whiter. Lies began before she even got selected.

In person she looks like a pudgy granny type.

IHLlary personally conducted seminars for Kamala on how to kill with piano wire and stage manage political suicides. There were sidebars on the timing of pardoning drug dealers and larcenous financial contributors to attract the least attention, as well as the best tradecraft for selling state secrets in exchange for foundation donations.
