Google tracks users through “Location History” and “Web & App Activity”, which are settings integrated into all Google accounts. For users of mobile phones with Android, such as Samsung and Huawei phones, this tracking is particularly difficult to avoid.

– Google is processing incredibly detailed and extensive personal data without proper legal grounds, and the data has been acquired through manipulation techniques, says Gro Mette Moen, acting head of unit, digital services in the Norwegian Consumer Council.

When we carry our phones, Google is recording where we go, down to which floor we are on and how we are moving. This can be combined with other information about us, such as what we search for, and what websites we visit. Such information can in turn be used for things such as targeted advertising meant to affect us when we are receptive or vulnerable.

At this point in time, most ppl should be using a VPN at all times and then, only use gmail, yahoo, etc, when checking mail and delete cookies when done. Save information on text files only.

I don't think anyone should ever use Gmail. It's like cc'ing Google on every single message you send or receive.

Unfortunately, I've had several employers who use Gmail for their corporate email. Idiots. And so I was forced to use it to keep my job.

And that's exactly it, you only use it for those things.

Otherwise, be logged out, don't fill out the user profile, have all cookies/forms on the computer removed, and only connect through VPN.

Can you give us a step by step guide for VPN usage? I would definitely appreciate that.

1. Sign up for a VPN service such as IPVanish, but there are others, I'm not endorsing them.
2. Buy a router capable of VPN.
3. Flash the router anyway with a better firmware like Tomato, but there are others, I'm not endorsing them.

Then anything in your house using the router is on the VPN. When you sign up for a VPN account many offer an app you can run on your phone to protect you when you are out and about. I don't know how good they are.

That only helps so much. You can use something like the Tor browser for added security.

That only helps so much. 3 letter agency back doors and Chinese chips hidden in motherboards these days.

A true(ish) privacy phone would be nice these days. There's got to be a market for it.

That's always been the case.

Also, use a text file to save links & info you want to reference later. Clear all forms/cookies with your browsing so don't open one brower for Yahoo mail and another instance of it for something else. Check your email, log out completely, clear all forms/cookies, and then search elsewhere.

At the very least, turn off location on your Android phone!

@WineHorror1 The Opera browser used to have a VPN built in. You just turn it on, and your traffic goes over Opera's VPN servers. It's slightly slower, but more private since no one can tell your originating IP address anymore.
