With free trade started to benefit developing economies like Mexico and China, the USA sent middle class manufacturing jobs to Mexico and in return we were given the undesirable (i.e., indigenous / Mayans, etc.) from down South. I think the combination of this has decimated the working and middle class (i.e., construction jobs, etc.) in the USA.
Perhaps posters like "Marcus" think this is justified in order to harm the average Americans standard of living/quality of life, and simultaneously help the historically-disadvantaged and formerly colonized countries like those in Latin America and the Far East (i.e., think of Barack Obama's book Dreams Of My Father) to catch up.
