Mind-body therapy helps the most. Learn about it.

Over reaction? How many tens of thousands of dead? How many more lives destroyed by addiction?
So far I'd say we totally under reacted.
Opioids create far more pain than they cure.

But they are legal, aren't they? Isn't it a perfect model for what would happen if the dream of all currently illegal drugs being legalized came true?

Life IS pain! It’s what tells us to grow and to move, to love and to change. Without it, we literally would be pond scum.

Take drugs to shut it off a little and you’re barely conscious. Do enough drugs to stop the pain completely and you die.

Exactly. it is bizarre that we should consider a normal part of life as a problem that needs to be medicalized.
As if not feeling good constantly has become unacceptable.
The American culture of instant gratification and push-button-solutions has gone way overboard.
Most pains are tolerable, not constant, probably is a symptom of an other pathology that should be the focus of any medicine, or is a symptom of deeper psychological unwellness that should be addressed socially and/or spritually.
Any drugs for pain should be reserved from extreme cases.
