On March 19, The Washington Post published an op-ed by Erdogan titled "The New Zealand killer and the Islamic State are cut from the same cloth.” He argued that “the terrorists may have different ideologies but their attitudes are eerily similar.” However, the op-ed has been met with criticism because of its proximity to Turkish elections on March 31 and because Turkey’s ruling AKP party has been using the footage from the New Zealand attack at campaign rallies.

“Shame on The Washington Post. Apparently its editorial board only cares about what happens in the ‘darkness.’ Erdogan is killing democracy in broad daylight,” wrote Endy Zemendis, executive director of the Hellenic American Leadership Council. The Washington Post’s motto is "democracy dies in darkness," while critics point to a contradiction between that slogan and the fact that Turkey, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists, has jailed 68 journalists for their work.

Turkey also faces criticism from New Zealand and Australia amid this controversy. After the reference to “coffins,” the Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison summoned the Turkish ambassador, saying it was “highly offensive to Australians and highly reckless in this very sensitive environment.” It was upsetting to Australia and the leader said he had “conveyed that in the strongest terms possible.”

Erdogan fancies himself the next Sultan - and Caliph - and means to Hijack Islam to dominate the middle east (and Europe).

As if Islam was not the tool of Arab nationalism and carrying essentially Arab culture.

Ironic, considering there's absolutely no way Erdogan didn't know ISIS was laundering oil via Turkey, efforts which included 100s of tanker trucks and the involvment of his own children.

Interesting how the WaPo also backed Khashoggi.

It's almost as if WaPo is pro-Islamist.

Or anti-Arab, pro-Turkish Caliphate.

Nobody wants to talk about ISIS Oil Revenue. They certainly weren't trucking it out of Shi'a Basra, or Assad's Latakia, or through the Hezbollah controlled Bekaa Valley to Beirut, and certainly not across Kurd-contested northern Iraq into Iran and out through Bandar-e-Abbas which is a helluva long route anyway.

So that kind of narrows it down...
