Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed Sunday that people who believe the suggestion that the world will end in 12 years have the intelligence of a “sea sponge,” even though Ocasio-Cortez made that very claim in January.
Ocasio-Cortez suggested that Republicans too often mischaracterize her dry humor and “fact check” her jokes, claiming that they take them too literally. One of her alleged jokes includes a January claim that the world will end in 12 years if we do not address climate change, comparing it to a modern World War II-style struggle.

“Like the ‘world ending in 12 years’ thing, you’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal. But the GOP is basically Dwight from The Office so who knows,” Ocasio-Cortez said:

@AOC
This is a technique of the GOP, to take dry humor + sarcasm literally and “fact check” it.

I've seen criticism of "like 10 people." The ten richest Americans are worth $730 billion. The fourteen richest American families (excluding the Koch brothers, so no double-counting) are worth $511 billion. Together, they're worth more than 60% of Americans combined. https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1127270688925134849

“I think that the part of it that is generational is that millennials and Gen-Z and all these folks that come after us are looking up and we’re like, ‘The world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change,’ and your biggest issue is–your biggest issue is, ‘How are we going to pay for it?’” Ocasio-Cortez said. “And, like, this is the war; this is our World War II.”

Readers can decide for themselves whether the progressive lawmaker meant for this to be a sarcastic joke or a serious claim about the alleged dangers of climate change.

Trump's hyperbole is more realistic about Muslims, than AOC claiming the world will end in 12 years.

Everything Trump has said that he was laughed at is true.
So no Trump does not make outlandish claims. Name one, just ONE since you think Trump lies to this magnitude?

You mean, such as, that windmills cause cancer ?

OR his absurd lies about crime rates ?

Or that he's the greatest President ever ?

Wait, AOC is complaining about her ridiculous statements being fact checked? After the WaPo created a database “fact checking” thousands of Trump’s statements which are actually true or close to true?

Remember that thread? All our lefty posters here ran away hard when we challenged them to find one...just one!!!...”fact check” that was actually accurate.

On the windmills and cancer, yes that is absurd.
On the "greatest President? That is opinion

On crime, this is what Trump actually said:
“In the two years before my inauguration, violent crime increased by eight percent nationwide, and murders were up by more than 20 percent,” he said, adding: “Murders in America’s largest cities [in 2017] dropped by six percent compared to 2016.”

This is true, according to FBI stats. Detractors may want to pick a different time scale to force a different conclusion, but the above statement is not a lie.

Windmills can cause cancer because if you live near them, you hear the constant nonstop bleating of them turning.
People lose sleep, and their health deteriorates. Imagine hearing "Whoof Whoof Whoof Whoof Whoof" nonstop all day 24 hours a day, with no escape.

The Crime rates are not aburd, you just choose to Eat Shit news out of Jeff Bezos asshole.

And he IS the Greatest President ever. Besides General Washington.

Try out this statement: "If someone dies in a house, the value of that house decreases because, some people say, the house is cursed."

(1) There's nothing about the statement that implies I think that death causes a curse or is an indication of a curse.
(2) The statement is probably true! Some people do shy away from buying a house because someone died in it. When a part of the demand is eliminated, the price will be lower.

Now lets put Trump's statement in context. There might be several instances of his statement, but of the two that I heard, they seem to go like this: (paraphrasing) "Windmills lower property values. ... because, some people say, windmills cause cancer."
