Abolish the Family, sez Feminist in New Book

Subject to glowing review in the Nation. Also, tons of points awarded for Socialist Jargon (Emancipated, Alienated, Bourgeois, etc.)

Arguably the most infamous demand of The Communist Manifesto is the “abolition of the family.” The family, Marx and Engels noted, was where patriarchy and capitalism worked in tandem to produce willing, alienated workers, where women became little more than “instruments of production” for the men who lorded over them. Radical queer politics in the 1960s and ’70s added to their critique of the bourgeois family when activists challenged the heteronormativity of familial relations. That demand, however, has since almost completely vanished from the leftist imaginary.

Sophie Lewis, a feminist theorist and geographer, takes up this forgotten struggle in her work. Her new book, Full Surrogacy Now: Feminism Against Family (Verso, 2019) specifically links family abolition to a radical reconceptualization of pregnancy itself. The act of carrying a child to term, she insists, is work—labor that has long been exploited and overlooked by the academy—and so is mothering.

By thinking through the logic of commercial surrogacy arrangements, Lewis lays bare the ways motherhood has been weaponized as an ideological construct. She gives us an account of the material conditions—the biological and societal violence—that gestators, or people who are carrying fetuses, have to bear. Her book shows us that the ostensibly feminist objection to surrogacy arrangements underwrites the ossified and alienated familial relations that make capitalism possible. Last month I sat down with her over a cup of tea at The Nation’s offices and talked about why rethinking gestation is central to an emancipatory politics

By the way, she's listed as being interested in "Eugenics Feminism", which is the "Intersection" of Eugenics and Feminism, notably by Margeret Sanger. Here is an article celebrating Eugenics Feminism and the Nasty Women behind it:

It's easy to see how "Eugenics Feminism" can take off.

It's at the "Intersection" of Leftism and ...

1. Hate and desire to control the (White) working class
2. Hatred of those who don't value their self-absorbed, muh-sexuality-is-the-essence-of-being intellectualism
3. Hatred of Men and the fantasy of castrating evil males.
4. Most Progressives, including Heroines like Margeret Sanger, were open Eugenicists.
5. Leftist feel they are the Chosen and Woke, and it's not a stretch from that to "Preventing the Undermenschen" from reproducing.
6. It degrades "Heteronormative Discourse" and since reproduction could never follow, sterilized heteros would "lose social power" over Trans Lesbian Furries or whatever.

It’s interesting that the same women who couldn’t consider adoption over abortion are shilling for total surrogacy (adoption) as a female empowerment tool.
There’s a reason “hysteria” is synonymous with female crazy stuffs.

Why do Republican men let their bitches buy Communist China export?
Did The Communist Manifesto mention Republicans buying $billions of Communist China exports?
Who & what's crazy?

If one reads the history of Eugenics, you learn why Leftists avoid this most America-shaming of past injustices. Forced sterilization of hundreds of thousands (millions?) of poor women, you'd think they'd be hammering in the morning, hammering in the evening, all over the land for reparations. So why don't Leftists use this Cause of Social Justice Righteousness?

https://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/christian-eugenics-anathema-sit/

Because the biggest advocates were the 20s/30s Progressives. Many were Mainline Denomination Ministers from Congregationalist, Episcopalian, and Unitarian denominations preaching a "Social Gospel" or "Christian Darwinism".

Most of the hostility to Evolution in the 1920s was because of Eugenics advocates, not the other way around. Those who struggled with the Eugenicists were mostly Catholics, Pentecostals, Charismatics, and Fundamentalists.

Why is the fight against Eugenics left out of US Textbooks? Because it's a story, like the story of how Puritan Thinking shaped the Constitution, where the most religious are the most heroic, and the social justice warriors the villains.

Rev. Phillips Endecott Osgood, rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Minneapolis. “We see that the less fit members of society seem to breed fastest and the right types are less prolific,” Osgood told parishioners that Mother’s Day. “Until the impurities of dross and alloy are purified out of our silver it cannot be taken into the hands of the craftsman for whom the refining is done…. Grapes cannot be gathered from thorns nor figs from thistles.”

(Osgood may have been paraphrasing the AES’ Eugenics Catechism, not just the Sermon on the Mount. “Does eugenics contradict the Bible?”, that document asked. “The Bible has much to say for eugenics. It tells us that men do not gather grapes from thorns and figs from thistles.”)

I saw some youtube thing that placed the Global Warming scare into the eugenics camp. It postulated the motive was consolidation of control of resources by some Great Socialist Paradise dicta followed by population control and eugenics. I didn't gnosh on the concept much, but it was an interesting twist.

Although it is nice to think that free form social and biologic darwinism will take care of humanity, it does seem, repugnant or not, that species survival at some point will have to include a variation of planned eugenics (cue Wagnerian nazi music).

Yes, without the disease able to survive and breed, nothing stop degradation of the human race. However, that may be moot, as bio-engineering may add a new twist. Normally evolved humans will be out-competed by genetically engineered folks modified to be smarter, stronger, taller, and sexier.

The Malthusian Fear seems to be the common thread, interesting point.

It seems it went: Eugenics/Racial Hygiene/Social Gospel to Zero Population Growth to Globaloney Warming.

Funny, she thinks capitalism makes family possible. Families existed long before capitalism.
What capitalism enables is actually feminism. Capitalists don't want women to do unpaid work. So rather than having a woman take care of her own child (unpaid), a nanny will do that (paid), while the mother works (paid).
This is ultimately a question of wealth privilege, because the nanny is often a low paid immigrant, who is not caring for her own kids. Maybe the grandma is. (unpaid).
Of course a nanny will not do nearly as much for the kid as the mom would have done. But who cares?
Now what the feminist above seems to be saying is extend this to surrogate mother. Who wants to carry a child? Too hard. Have a third world woman do that for you. More paid work for capitalism. More focus on money, carriers, work, and less on kids and families.

Not sure how this is against capitalism. This is mostly against nature. Feminists hate nature. They see the cost of bearing children, but deny the benefits in grants them.

A uterus is literally the only thing that a woman can use to elevate her over a man. In all arenas of sports, innovation, construction, and maintenance of everything it takes for civilization to run, an average man is a better choice than an average woman.
Only women have that uterus, capable of making babies.
And feminists want to eliminate their uterus from the equation.
Galactically stupid!

This belief is one of the reasons feminism exists.

Not to say that there aren't some whacko feminists out there, especially these days, including the one from the Op's piece.

If it’s only a belief and not a fact, then prove it. Seems like tranny male-to-female athletes prove it every day. And the gender pay gap proves that males are more valued by business as well.

Being largely feminists or gays or trannies, the left does not reproduce much and will die out within one generation.

The problem, of course, is that leftism is like an endemic disease, infecting and sterilizing otherwise healthy young people.

Semantics.

When I hear "women are worse in sports then men," I know I'm hearing a lunatic. Women are great in sports, competing with other women. OH but you didn't mean that when you said "in the arena of sports." Although why it is that you think we can't say women are great in sports, with the understanding that they aren't competing with men, I don't know. If I hear someone saying a female athlete is truly amazing and great, I don't assume that they mean competing with men. Wtf ?

OF course I agree about women competing with men in sports is absurd. And I'm every bit as troubled about a man changing his gender to compete in women's sport.

But if in fact what you meant is that woman can't compete with men in sports, that is against men, then the rest of your statement was saying that women competing with men in all those other fields is just like women trying to compete with men in sports. And yes that's mostly total bullshit. And yes it's why we have feminism. Even if possibly there are more outliers on the high end that are men, in fields such as architecture, engineering or management (SO FAR). That doesn't tell you that on average women are worse than men, or can't compete with men in those fields.

I don't think Quigley was implying that women are "worse" than men. He's just referencing biology and it existing. I mean, this is science, right?

Tell me Marcus, how many women - including hefty ugly ones that aren't blessed with charisma either - are sitting in the basement writing open source code for fun?

Now tell me how many hefty ugly fat dudes with bad social skills are uploading code to Github on their spare time as a hobby?

Truth: Females hate to code. And when you drill down and look at who is actually producing code, you won't find many women. "Oh, I work in IT". Yeah, in the HR Department, PR Department, or as "Project Facilitators" or "Office Managers".

Everybody knows it, but nobody even in Silly Con Valley will admit it.

Way back in the 80s, the "Female Programmers" were more likely to have a "Lady Penis", such as this legend:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danielle_Bunten_Berry

Born Daniel Bunten Berry, and he contemplated suicide over his sex change, but it's a one-way ticket.

The creator of M.U.L.E., 7 Cities of Gold, Heart of Africa, and many other early classics.

Ironically they all not only get Trans awards, but "Top Women" awards.

I wonder how many of the top women in computing history are actually born males.

The View is the best argument for Patriarchy.

Alternately threatening Males and Breadwinners, while shanking each other, lots of "I told you so's", and generally being petty bitches.

Formerly this happened at Coffee Klatches out of sight of most. Now the world can see.
