Ha ha! That's government efficiency for you. Sadly, the article doesn't articulate reasons for the excessive cost.

From the article:
The unanimous vote instructed district staff to develop a plan to paint over all 13 panels of Victor Arnautoff's "Life of Washington" mural, which is expected to cost some $600,000 and take more than a year to implement.

Maybe they should go with my plan:
• go to home depot and buy some rollers, paint, and other tools ($1000)
• the next 10 kids that are sent to detention are assigned the task ($0)
• send the remaining $599,000 to me!

Maybe the US should take some lessons from Japan: https://www.mic.com/articles/118030/look-at-what-students-in-japan-are-doing-that-the-u-s-would-never-consider

Any excuse to blatantly squander tax dollars in California is a good excuse. The Great Socialist Paradise makes it so.

Fro $600k they could put a false wall in front of the paintings. That way the paintings can be re-displayed in the future after grown-ups reclaim authority.

The insane San Francisco people are going to destroy art and attempt to erase history at the same time. It's a crime what they will do; they have no right to destroy the fresco.
