Very clean. Very cheerful, friendly staff.
The bad news? A MILLION sneaky little charges that you somehow imagined were covered by the UNBELIEVABLE amount of money you are paying them. For my mother, it was $216 per day -- before they tacked on all the little surprises such as $2 per day for the wheelchair she used. (?!) Even so, we might have been willing to overlook that if it weren't for the absolute comedy show of incompetance we saw EVERY DAY.
My mother was not supposed to have salt EVER -- yet they continually tried to serve her chicken noodle soup, sausage, ham, and all kinds of other heavily salted food. We talked to them over and over and we had the doctor once again write out all Mom's dietary restrictions -- which we took to the Lifecare staff. Next morning -- sausage for breakfast.
Happily, my mother has a very clear mind and has always been careful about her own diet. She politely sent things back to the kitchen --- and then the staff would argue with her about whether or not she could eat this stuff.
One day, a staff member tried to give her the wrong pills. Mom had to insist over and over again that, "These are NOT my pills." Finally the director of nursing came in to take a look --- no, they were not Mom's pills.
After a couple of months of this dangerous carnival, with my mother's consent, we started making arrangements to move Mom to a nicer, more trustworthy facility. When word got around about that, a Lifecare staff member visited my mother in her room and told her that it would be dangerous for her to move to this other facility because they would be unable to care for her specific medical needs. She basically scared Mom out of her mind. We have finally worked our way through all that and, in a few days, if we can successfully clear all the obstacles being placed in our path, Mom will get out of this place alive.
If they throw any further roadblocks, ask them for a copy of the Resident's Bill of Rights and call the Long Term Care Ombudsman. I would recommend writing your MD and telling him your concerns. LifeCare is a national company and you should write a letter to their corporate office describing your issues and including the names of the employees who attempted to interfere.
